Debbie Meyer Green Bags —

I don't know if Debbie Meyer is a fictional character like Betty Crocker, but I sure would like to thank her for keeping my produce fresh.  Debbie Meyer Green Bags may not be the miracle that is proclaimed on TV, but they do work surprisingly well.

I had seen the commercials for the bags for several months, but I was reluctant to purchase them simply because I wasn't convinced they really worked.  And who wants to spend 10 bucks on something unless you're sure it's worth it?  Recently, I received an e-mail from HomeTrends.com with a free shipping offer on any As Seen on TV product.  The Debbie Meyer Green Bags were included in the special offer so I figured this was as good a time as any to give the product a try.

The set of ten bags arrived quickly in a plain envelope and when I pulled them out there didn't seem to be anything particularly special about them.  The bags are celery green in color, transparent, and came in two sizes.  I selected the larger size, and loaded a bunch of bananas into the bag.  There are no ties or other closures to keep the air out.  The directions state that you simply place your item in the bag and fold it over.  In fact, you are advised not to attempt to twist close the bag to avoid puncturing the material.

Normally, when my hubby brings home a bunch of bananas I am able to eat most of them before they go bad.  Unfortunately, there are usually one or two from the initial bunch that I just don't get around to eating. I have the same issue with strawberries - they tend to go bad faster than I can eat them.  I had high hopes for this product.

I noticed a few hours after I had put the bananas into the Green Bag that the interior was puffed up and a little cloudy.  The next morning I retrieved a banana from the bag and I noted that it looked similar in appearance as it had the day before.  Each successive day the bananas became slightly browned and a little more ripened, but nowhere near the spoilage I was accustomed to before.  For the first time in a long time I was actually able to eat the entire bunch of bananas with no waste.

Granted, the Debbie Meyer Green Bags won't keep your fruits and veggies fresh indefinitely.  Still, even getting three or four extra days to finish off my produce makes the purchase price well worth it.

Great review... thank you. I just bought these too... but not long ago enough to know if they work. Now I'm excited to see how long my fruits and veggies last! Woooohoo! Thanks again. :)

If only having food go bad BEFORE we eat it all was a problem in this household, but hey us adults are outnumbered.
