Comments about Apple iPad 2 (64 GB) 9.7" Tablet - MC916:
I purchased this Verizon model iPad 2 on the day it was released. I waited an hour or two in line at the local Apple Retail Store. Yes, it was worth the wait. Now over two years later this baby is still an absolute pleasure to use. It's allowed me to do so many things. Everything works as promised. WiFi works great! 3G (cellular) works as well. And of course the apps allow you to see how powerfully, powerful an iPad 2 can be, whether on WiFi or 3G.
Under The Hood
I find that I can easily have 10-12 apps open and not get any complaints from this flash-based, super fast tablet of sleek sexiness. It comes in black or white. And I opted to go all in by purchasing the white 64GB model. It's funny, I've never had a day on which I wished I had more storage capacity.
Beauty to Behold
The display is brilliantly lit, but I keep the brightness at bay in order to reserve battery power. And as far as battery power goes, it will last several hours before expelling all of its charge, but I have a habit of keeping it charged above 60%. Although, monthly battery maintenance (allow battery charge to zero out) is a good habit.
The first time I heard the built-in speaker I was quite surprised at the volume level. I'm no recording engineer, but it sounded good enough for my needs. I've never allowed it to play at its maximum volume, but I get close enough, and it does not sound distorted.
The Highs and Lows
Remembering the day I unboxed this work of art I found myself disappointed only at two things. First, it's lack of a USB port. At the time I was enrolled in some community college courses and I'd hoped to use my USB drive because I purchased the iPad 2 instead of a laptop. Nonetheless, with Apple's iCloud now available, and many app developers coding iCloud functionality into their apps, the use of a USB drive is almost a thing of the past. Second, the Videos app (comes with it) will not maintain video playlists from iTunes to sync to the device. Neither will the Videos app create playlists of its own. There you have it. Fooeey one, and fooeey two!
And that's why I rated the iPad 2 a nine instead of a ten. Oh, I do love this tiny machine. Thanks, Apple!
If anyone is considering purchasing an iPad I would not think twice about it. Personally, I would not purchase anything earlier than the iPad 2 because of its front and back facing cameras, which take really nice photos and videos. You'll see. Go pick one up. Cheers!
Ease of Use
This is a product that will not fight you back. If you want it to work, it just works!
Battery life could be better, but like I said before, my habit is to keep the battery level above 60%, and maintain monthly battery maintenance.
Support & Service
I've called Apple for support only to ask questions, but not due to problems. I just wanted to learn about functionality. And thankfully I've never needed my iPad 2 serviced.
It's not as fast as the latest iPad, but it's not slow either. I think it is super fast.
The iPad 2 is a lightweight wonder!
This thing can take some fingerprints and smudges. Follow the cleaning instructions to keep you display clean, especially if you're a clean freak.
