Acer Aspire great bet for the buck.

This is my second Acer Aspire laptop.  The first lasted a good 4 years with little to no problems.  This machine appears to be even better with the Windows 7 package.  There are many pros to the updated version of this machine.  First, I love the even bigger screen that has great clarity.  The other thing I love is the built-in number pad.  That has been one of my biggest complaints with laptops.  I am very data/number driven and always felt lost on my previous laptop.  This machine has a set of floating keys on the keyboard that the jury is still out on.  They are comfortable and easy to type on, however I am concerned about dust and debris getting under the keys.  I have already had to work on repairing one of the keys that came loose.  There is very little information out there on how to repair this new style of laptop keyboard.  It does offer a Mult-Gesture touchpad that allows the use of two fingers to do the following:  enlarge or shrink the screen, shift the screen left or right, shift the screen up or down and refresh the screen.  I do not know if it is due to the new operating system (Windows 7) or this machine itself, but I love the fact that you can close the top of the laptop and move to another location, then simply open the top and hit any button and it brings windows right back up where you left off.  No silly reboot/log on type screens to mess with.  This machine also comes with some nice intro packages to MS Office.  There seems to be no pressure to purchase, but a genuine offer to evaluate the program.  I like the new windows media player and game arcade.  They are both easy to use and quick to learn.  There are 3 USB ports on the left side of the machine and one on the right side.  There is an ethernet port on the right as well.  This is also the location of the DVD drive.  There is some port on the left, in addition to the USBs that I do not recognize.  The machine offers a built-in webcam by Crystal Eye which has worked well.  It is perfect for those needing to skype.  The  Acer Aspire 7736Z offers decent battery life for heavy-use programs.  I am generally getting a solid 2 hours on the battery before having to plug back in.  Although this is not the best, it is much better than the 30 minutes I was getting before.  I believe that Acer continues to offer a good product for a great price.  There was nothing else that compared with the amount of memory and storage for the price.

To start of I would just say that I like this computer and I like Windows 7. The Aspire I purchased has a rather wide screen and it took a little getting used to, but I've come to love it and cringe to think of going back a regular screen if I had to. The wide screen is especially useful because of Windows 7's "snap" feature that allows for a window to take up half the screen just by dragging it to the side. Another nice feature of the wide screen is how wide the laptop keyboard is, I actually have the number pad off to the side and am very pleased with it. As a laptop the keyboard is still a little cramped but far less than almost any laptop I've ever owned. The start up time is rather short, it simply has a loading screen and then goes right to the password page, no pretense at a DOS shell or any strange words flashing by as the computer wakes up.  There's also the touch pad just below keyboard. It's quite sensitive and reacts to any slight touch as I type, fortunately it has a handy little button to turn it off or on as I need it right next to the touch pad. The button is useful when I don't have my mouse with me but it does get a little repetative to have to push it every time the computer turns on. There are also a number of USB ports on both sides of the computer. I find this useful as I have many devices, such as a mouse or tablet, that I like hooked up to my laptap. I can have all of them hooked up and still have at least one port left for my USB stick when I need it. I've also finally been able to get back into gaming as I now have a computer that can and will play the video games I enjoy playing. In short, I am very pleased with this computer and am quite satisfied with puchasing it.

Awesome Laptop!

This is absolutely the best laptop I have ever had. Easy to type on. The best thing I love about it is that it doesn't get hot. My old laptop would get really hot after using it for awhile but this doesn't. The sound/graphics is great. Well worth the money I paid for it. The 17 inch screen is awesome. It is a bit heavy but is expected as the size of the laptop is bigger than most. All around a great laptop.
