I have used this stuff for years and years. My hair dresser actually recommended this to me because my hair tends to get very dry. I also have a ton of split ends and breakage. I hate it!! You can choose to use this as a deep conditioner or leave in treatment. If you use it as a deep conditioner I recommend running it through your hair and leaving it in for 10 to 15 minutes. I typically use it an a leave in treatment. While my hair is still damp I add a very little but, mostly to just the lower portion of my hair to my ends. This products makes my hair feel healthy and strong ans smells great. If you like this product you will also like the other products in this line. I use the heat glide serum as well along with this leave in. It will make you hairly feel sofy, silky and beautiful and this product will last a long time because all you need a bit a of each. You can actually purchase a tiny sample size at most stores for a few bucks. Thise are great little stocking stuffers!

My stylist recently recommended this product to me because my hair was dry. I always love Redken products, and this one is no different. First, I shampoo my hair and then I put a generous amount of this in my hair and put it up in a shower cap. I let it sit on there for about 7 minutes while I wash my body etc., then I rinse it out. The steam from the shower opens up the hair cuticle allowing this product to be absorbed better. It leaves my hair so soft and silky smooth I don't want to stop touching it. It may be a little heavy the first day (not greasy though), but after one shampoo it is fine. It also has a nice subtle scent. I wouldn't use this more than once a week though because I think it would make your hair too heavy and greasy. This is a great affordable alternative to getting deep conditioning treatments at the salon. So if you have dry, unruly hair I would definately recommend this product.

I started using Butter Treat several years ago.  My hair was dry, damaged and somewhat brittle.  A salon stylist suggested I try this product and I was so happy with it from day one.  I used it every day at first so that I would get the best result fast!  I even left it in overnight once a week, or whenever possible.  I would shower in the evening, leave in the butter treat, and cover my head with either a towel or something else so that it didn't get all over the pillow at night while I was sleeping.  In the morning, just jump out of the shower and rinse it out!  It left my hair feeling soft, and shiney all day long!  Also, I have curly hair, so on some days when I left my hair curly I would put a dab of the butter treat in the curly hair and leave it in all day long!  It was like an all day and night treatment sometimes!  But it worked great. After sever years of using this product, I don't think it has the same effect, so I started using something else, which isn't working as well.  But my plan is to go back to Butter Treat after my hair has a chance to miss it for a while!

If you are looking for an awesome conditioner this is the one. I love the butter treatment by Redken. It is worth the money, I use it every time I take a shower. My hair is fine and prone to static, I have to use conditioner or I will have a really bad hair day. This conditioner eliminates my static and helps leave my hair silky and smooth. You will not believe the wonders this product can do on your hair. Once you start using this product you will not wan to use any other conditioner. You can follow the directions and leave it on for around three minutes. I try to leave it on as long as possible for it to work really well. My hair is long to and I only use it on the bottom of my hair. I love the smell of this product.

I have a multiracial background and the hair to prove it... Dark, thick, wild, but not too curly. Smooth Down Butter Treat is just the right thing to protect my crazy hair from drying out or breaking from heat styling. It is a wonderful leave-in conditioner that also tames and gives nice body and style when simply air-drying. The price tag is a little high, but trust me, a little goes a long way... and with incredible results daily, how could you possibly say no? It really does what it says-- smooths down. It makes my hair feel great! It is so smooth after heat styling, other products just don't compare! Oh, and I should add that I've had the same bottle for a couple years now. If you apply it when the hair is still wet, you only need a dab about the size of a pea. This really is amazing stuff! Try it, you will love it!

Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat is another great product from the Redken Smooth Down line. As a mixed race person my hair is a mixed bag of issues that Redken Butter Treat seems to handle well. First off, my hair is very thick and quite coarse. However, the cuticle is smooth enough that some hair products formulated for ethnic hair can leave it feeling heavy and limp. Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat makes my hair smooth and straight while leaving it with lots of body and bounce. It also works great whether I wear my hair straight or curly.I often blow dry and/or flat iron my hair. I love the smooth look I get from using straightening serums or balms, but am often frustrated by the fact that my hair will often not hold any degree of curl, either from a curling iron or hot rollers, after I use balms or serums. I do not have that problem with Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat. It smoothes the cuticle without making my hair pin straight. Redken says that you can use Butter Treat as an intensive rinse out treatment or as a leave in. I would recommend using it as a leave in if you have highly textured or ethnic hair and I would recommend rinsing it out if your hair is smoother in texture. Either way, the product is very rich and a little goes a very long way. If you plan to wear your hair curly, it is best to apply Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat on lightly towel dried hair. I get the best results when I smooth it through and then gently twist sections of my hair following the natural curl pattern. When I plan to blow dry my hair for a straight style, I like to get as much of the water out of my hair with a micro fiber towel before applying the Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat and combing it though. Either way, Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat is a great product for reducing frizz and it also works well for preventing reversion in moderate humidity.
