The Local Airline

3

Mexicana Airlines offers quality discount service throughout Mexico. Service Mexicana Airlines offers service to a number of major international airports throughout North American and South America. In addition, Mexicana Airlines also offers service to many smaller regional airports throughout Mexico. If you are looking to get off the beaten track while traveling in Mexico, I recommend looking for flights on Mexicana Airlines. The customer service representatives I came across at the various airports have been quite helpful and accommodating. Many have greeted me with a smile and pleasant demeanor. In-Flight Accommodations The in-flight accommodations on Mexicana Airlines flights do leave a little left to be desired. There is a full beverage card that makes it's way through the isle at least once during the flight. There is a decent in-flight entertainment program offered.

worst customer service ever

1

The customer service at Mexicana is a joke.  We had to cancel a trip when the whole Swine flu thing happened and we had to go through 3 different people on the phone before anyone could tell us their poilicy on the whole thing.  Finally we got someone who assured us that if we canceled our flight and rebooked within one year we would NOT be charge the $100 cancel fee. When we decided to rebook our trip things got bad.  The first time we called Mexicana we were on hold for so long we gave up.  THe next day I called again and after being on hold for ONE HOUR and talking to a guy who kept putting me on hold to answer every question, he tells me that my fiance and I each owe the $100 cancel fee.  what a surprise.  Then the  phone line disconnected.  I don't think it was my phone either- the line just went dead.   I immediately called back and explained what happened- I begged- please don't put me on hold I can't waste another HOUR of my life on hold.  BUt they put me on hold anyway and I hung up and I am not even sure if I will go on my trip any more because Mexicana is making it way too difficult. Worst customer service ever- be prepared to be on hold forever if you call them.

Mexicana airlines has the worst customer service I have seen.

Please do not fly Mexicana airlines.  I booked a direct flight from LAX to Puerto Vallarta for my wife and I.  A month later I learned (not from the airline) that the flight was cancelled.  Unknown to me we had been rebooked on a connecting flight at a totally different time.  I called to tell them that I only wanted a direct flight or a refund.  Even though they acknowledged that they cancelled the flight, the supervisor, Arturo Parra, refused to refund me my money and in fact asked for $100 more and then some of the money could be used on a later Mexicana flight.  Needless to say I did not pay another penny and have disputed the charge to my credit card.  I have dealt with many other airlines and all of them would have given a full refund if they cancelled a flight. DO NOT FLY MEXICANA AIRLINES!

Misleading and gimmicky on posted fares

3

Their posted rates on fares is a gimmick.    What a waste of my time.   I found fares listed at substantially lower than other airlines, only to find out that they add on exorbinate fees and surcharges which nearly double the quoted price of the ticket.    Much better off to go with a company that is upfront.    I was able to go on Priceline and find quoted prices that included all fees, taxes and surcharges.   No surprises that way.  Also, saved many hours in travel time as other airlines offered better flight times and less layover time.     I didn't go with them, so can't rate inflight service.

Cheap prices and free in-flight services.

I flew to Costa Rica aboard this airline because I found a few last minute tickets for under $400 (I booked directly on the website when other search engines could only come up with $600 flights). The only flight delay was because of airport traffic, not the airline. All the connects were smooth and we left on time. In flight, we were served a meal on each flight (JFK to Cancun, Cancun to San Jose) and had a movie to watch/music to listen to. Cannot find this on many American airline companies anymore without paying. The only con would be the customer service number... I couldn't get through when I tried calling, but everything was solved.

I Can Usually Do Better...

Now understand, I have no axe to grind with my amigos at Mexicana --- I'm sure they run a fine airline, and folks who are loyal to them are perfectly entitled to their opinion. I've flown Mexicana several times myself and generally had good flight experiences. But they aren't my favorite airline, and when I'm flying to and from, or in between Mexican destinations, I usually find that I'm a lot more comfortable with Aeromexico or Aviacsa, and when I'm looking to save the big pesos on cheap travel, I do better with the young startups like Interjet than I do with Mexicana's bogus low-fare carrier, Click.I don't understand what the point is of these low-fare spinoffs anyway. Delta tried it for a while, and for all I know, United is still trying to make Ted work. Mexicana did the same thing with Click, trying to convince people that it was a Mexicana flight experience that was hip, modern, young, and able to save a few $$$. All I see is a cutback service level with a fare I can still beat. When I want a reliable flight experience, I book Aeromexico. They just seem a whole lot less "flighty" to me than Mexicana. Aeromexico is part of the SkyTeam alliance, for one thing, and I can get full mileage credit on my Continental OnePass for flights flown on Aeromexico. On the other hand, Mexicana once upon a time had a similar arrangement with United's Star alliance, but nowadays, Mexicana is aligned with nobody so I think that if you get frequent flyer miles, they go into your Mexicana Frecuenta account or they don't go anyplace, and since most Americans aren't going to fly enough Mexicana flights to ever cash in, I recommend Aeromexico instead. (And what's the point of Click anyway if they don't have fly to places like Mexico City or Monterrey?) It's harder to do business with Mexicana too. I like to compare fares and book tickets on the internet, but Mexicana's web site is flaky. I hate the way they don't seem to have their links working reliably between their main site (www.mexicana.com) and their bogus site (click.com.mx), and I don't like that their site is slow and they have entirely too much flaky Flash crapola on their pages. Overall, Mexicana is pretty decent airline. I don't like their Click knockoff though, and I can almost always fly easier and cheaper with other Mexican airlines. They're decent, they just don't strike me as terribly competitive.
