I just had my third Brother printer in 2 years die so I went to Staples and told them I wanted a laser printer that was not made by Brother.  The saleman showed me this HP laserjet professional P1606dn.  The price was right and it was a workhorse, which is something I need, so I bought it and brought it home.  Set up was a breeze, once I attached the cables (not included, they never are anymore with printer, just used my old ones) it practically set itself up.  It has two paper trays, the bottom one you can fill up and the top one is basically for when you want to print a few sheets (holds about 15) of something on color paper or another special paper.  It prints on cardstock like a dream!  My old printer I had to hand feed one piece of cardstock at a time, this one I can load a few sheets in the top paper tray and it will happily pick up one sheet at a time and print on them.  When the top paper tray is empty it automatically starts on the bottom tray, so make sure you have enough paper in the top one if you're doing a special project.  It also has the coolest button!  If you're like me you've always wanted a (preferably voice activated) stop printing this instant button for those times when you pushed the wrong button or suddenly realized that when  you told it to print you phone bill you were getting all 23 pages of the thing instead of just the summary page you wanted.  It has one!  A lovely little button with an x on it, you push that and it doesn't even finish printing the page it's doing, it just spits out the paper it was printing on and it's done!  yay!  Love it!  It also prints double sided pages.  It took me a few minutes to figure out how to do this (in Word you select print, then printer properties, then the tab for finishing, then the box for print on both sides, then okay, and then print; you have to remember to go and uncheck the box or it will print both sides on everything until you close the program and re-open it).  Once I had it figured out I loved this feature, too!  The only complaint I have had is that I refill my own cartridges and I couldn't do that with the initial cartridge, it was a smaller one that you get with a new printer (they all like to do that to you, give you a small one so as soon as you turn around you have to buy new ink).  But, I ordered me in a new cartridge, which was very easy to change, by the way, and can refill that one when it's empty.  Oh, the toner and drum unit is an all in one, so you don't have to have an extra of both just in case.  I know it costs a little more this way, but you're assured a nice sharp image if you replace the drum unit too and where I refill my toner cartridges I can still get a nice long life out of the drum unit while I'm refilling my toner cartridge. Performance It's a workhorse! I use it tons and it never fails (unless I forget to turn it on :-) Copy Quality Always readable, no spots and streaks. Ink/Paper Use You know, I think maybe I've had one paper jam with this printer. My old printer had a jam at least once a week. Great on ink/toner consumption, too. I use recycled printer cartridges and haven't had a problem! Ease of Use Absolutely love the cancel button!!! Durability I use this baby numerous times every day, I print double sided, I print graphics, I print, print, print and it's just fabulous!! Design Tucks nicely away, I have it sitting compactly on a bookcase shelf :-)
