The starter tonner came with the printer can only print up to 300 pages. But there are many OEM refills you can find on eBay at reasonable prices. Most refills can print up to 2500 pages and it makes the printer more budget. I already have had 2 refills in the past 15 months and the printer is still working fine with no issues. I left it on the floor and it's ON 24 hours 7 days a week. It does not overheat, and it does not make weird noise like most cheap home laser printers do.  The printing quality and speed is satisfying even I have OEM toner installed. It uses a lot of electricity however, when your computer send data to the printer because our lights got dimmed and went back to normal immediately when the printer started working. The printer works with Apple's Airport Extreme Base Station perfectly, which makes the 2140 a wireless printer. So generally speaking, I highly recommend this printer to anyone who is looking for a small laster printer that requires low maintenance cost.

This Brother printer was purchased for our high school sophomore who is a home schooled student.  The work she does needs to be printed from her school curriculum and we were taking days just printing and organizing pages.  Now we load the printer with 3 hole punched paper and print off an entire semester's worth of assignments in just minutes.  It was very easy to set up, it's light which makes it easy to move from one work station to another, and its fairly easy to troubleshoot.  We got this item on sale and were shocked to learn that the printer itself was actually less expensive than the replacement tonor cartridge.  The only drawback we have found with the item at all is the price of the toner cartridges.  Small price to pay when you don't have to deal with constant paper jams and very long print times.  It's fast and easy and I plan to purchase another for my office in the near future.

I was starting to get into coupon shopping and we were going through ink like there was no tomorrow.  So we looked online and this brother printer was on sale for a great price the reviews were excellent and so we bought it.  We have gone through two reams of paper and are still on the starter catridge. We did put tape over the sensor lights for the ink cartridge and that has helped.  We love how you can highlight on this paper after it prints and it doesn't smeer.  Stores are able to scan the coupons on the first try without having any errors.  The quality of the print job is amazing and we have just loved this purchase. The printer is fairly quiet when it prints, but it does dim the lights in the room when it goes to print.  We don't mind because well it does a good job.  The interface to help solve printer problems is easy to use and it shows pictures of the possible problems on the computer.  No more quessing with this printer.  Can't go wrong with this printer.

This printer does not have any fancy stuff; it's pure business with cheap laser monochrome (black and white) output onto one side only. No wireless. No duplex (double sided) printing, unless you manually take out each sheet and flip it over and put it into the paper tray again, and that's a pain to do if you are printing anything more than a few pages long. It connects via USB 2.0 and gets the job done with cheap toner. Now, the starter toner is more than enough for 1000 pages, more like 1500 if you always hit the "toner saver" option in Advanced printer options. I just wish there were an easier way to do that, like setting in the driver an option to "always use toner saver mode." You can get extended-life cartridges good for 3300 sheets, assuming 5% black coverage, but with toner saver mode you could eke out a few more. The drum in this printer only lasts for 6000 sheets or so, so after 6000 pages of printing you will need a new drum (way expensive) or a new printer. So this is a bit of a disposable printer in that respect. But it's dirt cheap!

Got this little printer back in 2008. Very happy with it. I print pretty often and my wife uses it too for her university work, etc. We still haven't had to change the first toner cartridge that came with it, and that's not a full cartridge either. It's fast, printing large files quickly, with nice, sharp quality. I've shared it on the network through my desktop computer and have been able to connect to it from the two laptops and me and my wife use, and printing files through the network on it is fast too. It's quiet, doesn't make a lot of noise when it prints. It's small and doesn't take a lot of room on top of my computer table. I don't think I have any complaints about it. Never had a paper jam, never needed to open it up to fix anything, not even to change the cartridge. Initial cartridge installation was quick and painless, just pop it in, close the lid/door, turn on the printer and it's working. Oh, and it's also cheap. So you definitely get a good bang for your buck!
