It doesn't melt...does not taste like butter

By

from Jacksonville, FL

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

This stuff is terrible. I wanted something other than Brummel & Brown yogurt butter spread, so I thought I'd try this. it said Non-GMO, but it's got a LOT of other chemicals. And the weird thing is that it doens't melt. I you put it on toast it stays the same consistency and tastes nothing like butter. More like....chemicals. I'm not a wasteful person, but I don't even want to use it in cooking. It's going on the trash.

Unhealthy and gross

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

After eating real and healthy butter all of my life, I decided to buy this "buttery spread". I knew it was bad, with all those chemicals, but wanted to see how it tasted. The butter I had was natural, with natural fats, unlike this spread, I don't know how people can think thi is healthy! Well, anyway, after I bought the spread, I went home and spread some on my toast and tried it. I really thought that it would taste good, it did not. IT tasted very chemically. Well, maybe it will taste better on other things, So I used it on some popcorn. It still tasted unlike butter. Just gross. So I tried it on some other things, vegetables, etc. That all tasted bad. Really, the only thing it actually tasted good in was baked goods. I made a cake with it and it tasted different, but it was ok. It also spread easily, probably due to chemicals. I know that you would most likely like real butter better than this spread. I don't recommend buying this product, just buy real butter.

May be good for you, but isn't that good

By

from SmallTown, TX

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

I am one of those unfortunate people that has to watch my cholesterol. I seriously try to avoid foods that contribute to my health issue. I have forced myself to try to like this spread, but there is something about the taste that just makes me rather do without than to eat it. It seems to have sort of a bitter taste to it. I have tried the stick and the tub. The stick is more tolerable than the tub. I love cinnamon, so I am going to start trying to use a bit of that on anything I may use this spread on. I realize the importance of following a diet that doesn't elevate my cholesterol and I am appreciative that Smart Balance has a line of products developed to help. I will keep trying Smart Balance but I am not promising I will be successful. I will recommend it as a healthy product but not necessarily a product that I like.

Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread is delicious!

By

from Hillsboro, OR

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

I love using this spread on my bread, pancakes, waffles, french toast, and veggies! It has an amazing buttery tastes, spreads well straight from the fridge, and is better for health (and the waistline) than eating butter!

It does have problems with texture if it gets too cold or warm but it doesn't seem to effect the taste any. It is not meant for cooking or baking. The non-light version and the 1/2 buttter/1/2 SmartBalance sticks are for those purposes.

I like this product instead of most other spreads because it has no partially hydrogenated oils. Partially hydrogenated oils are a factor in cancer.

Since I love butter (I eat a lot of it), this is also a much healthier choice for me since it has about half the fat and calories of butter or stick margerine. Luckily, I don't have problems with cholesterol or high blood pressure. The product specifically mentions that it maintains healthy cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range.

great butter alternative

By

from Mont Alto, PA

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

I love real butter and I hate fake oily margerine products. Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread is not one of those products. It actually tastes good. We started using it when it first came out on the market and have discovered it is a brand we can trust.  One very unique thing that made me buy the product was that it is a great source of Omega-3. I saw on the front of the tub it said,'"original with flax".There are no hydrgenated oils and no trans fats and it supports healthy levels of cholesterol. Smart Balance Light has about half of the calories of butter or margerine and has aways made a great substitute in my recipes. One of my vegan friends pointed out that they buy Smart Balance Light instead of the expensive butter substitues in the health food store. I like that I can use it without overdoing it on dairy.  My goal as a wife and a mom is to feed my family healthy food that tastes good and I can do that with Smart Balance Light.

"HEART RIGHT-Reduces Cholesterol/Great Taste/Right Fat Blend

By

from Jupiter, FL

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

I bought **Smart Balance** ***Heart Right*** **Light Buttery Spread** at my local grocery store. I actually went there to buy my regular Smart Balance Light  Buttery Spread. This  ***Heart Right*** was featured also, so I picked it up instead. The only difference between Smart Balance ***Heart Right*** Light Buttery Spread and the Regular Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread is **.5 less g of Polyunsaturated Fat** stated on the label of the ***Heart Right***, that's it. So, it's a small difference in polyunsaturated grams of fat, and the rest of the Nutrition Facts are exactly the same.

So, why do I buy these Smart Balance Light Buttery Spreads? I like to use these spreads as part of a healthy, well-balanced diet for my family. I use them primarily on breads and muffins. I like their taste, but, they will never replace the taste of real butter for me. Still, I think that it tastes pretty good with a nice, creamy, "kind of buttery" flavor to it.

I know that by occasionally eating this ***Heart Right* Light Buttery Spread**, it will contribute a small part to my overall health profile, but, I believe that every little bit adds up, if  it's used on a regular basis.  I also use butter, but, sparingly. I think that it is important to pay attention to your Cholesterol levels at an early age. The correlation between High Cholestrol Levels and Heart Disease is well known. The  increasing incidence of prescribing Statin drugs to lower cholesterol levels is  also well known. Why not do our small part, with diet changes, to contribute to a better LDL/HDL ratio, throughout our lives?  If using this spread even contributes a little bit to my family's better heart health, I'll consistently use it.

**PLANT STEROLS**:  Smart Balance ***Heart Righ****t***  Light Buttery Spread contains 38% Natural Vegetable Oils. It contains 50% less fat and calories than regular margarine. It uses **Plant Sterols** to help reduce cholesterol. **Plant Sterols** are **cholesterol-like molecules** created by **plants** and are **found in** food items like **whole grains, nuts, fruits, legumes, vegetable oils, and vegetables**. These plant sterols inhibit the the absorption of cholesterol. Diets rich in plant sterols are beneficial in reducing cholesterol. Ideally, **1 tsp. of Plant Sterols per day** is needed to lower your LDL level by 10%. That's pretty impressive. But, the best diet is a natural diet whereby the benefits of plant sterols are received directly from the "source food" itself, not as a supplement. The FDA has certified that products with Plant Sterols are "**Heart Healthy**". Therefore, Smart Balance ***Heart Right ***can legally call itself a "***heart -healthy"*** spread because it contains **Cholesterol Lowering Plant Sterols**.

In addition, Smart Balance ***Heart Right***  Light Buttery Spread **contains** **Vitamin E**, a strong Antioxidant. This Light Buttery Spread also contains a "**unique combination** of Cholesterol-Reducing Plant Sterols, Omega-3 EPA/DHA blend. **Clinical studies** show that consuming **1,300 mg** of Plant **Sterols per day may help reduce Cholesterol**. Smart Balance ***Heart Righ****t***  Light Buttery Spread contains **1,700 mg of Plant Sterols Esters per serving**.

**PATENTED OIL BLEND**: Smart Balance ***Heart Righ****t*** Light Buttery Spread contains a "patented blend of oils" to enhance the ratio of HDL (good) to LDL (bad) Cholesterol. Limit Dietary Cholesterol to under 300mg per day. **Regular exercise** is also essential to heart health.  Everything works together to give one a better ability to help lower Cholesterol levels in your blood.

I**NGREDIENTS**: Water, Natural Oil Blend (Palm Fruit, Soybean, Fish, Canola, and Olive Oils), Plant Sterols, Contains less than 2% Salt, Monglycerides of Vegetable Fatty Acids, Natural and Artificial Flavors, TBHQ, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Soy Lecithin, Vitamin B12, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin B6, Beta Carotene, Vitamin A Palmitate, Calcium Disodium EDTA, Vitamin D3.

**NUTRITION FACTS**: Total Fat=5g, Sat. Fat=1.5g, Polyunsaturated Fat=1.5g, Monounsaturated Fat=1.5g, Trans Fat=0mg, Cholesterol=0mg, Sodium=80mg, Total Carbs=0g, Sugars=0g, Protein=0g

**VITAMINS**:  Vitamin A 10%, Vitamin D 15%, Vitamin E 10%, Vitamin B6 35%, Vitamin B12

**MY OPINION**:  Smart Balance ***Heart Right***  Light Buttery Spread can be used as an addition to a healthy diet. As always, healthy diet choices, regular exercise, and yearly medical check-ups, contribute to overall health. This Smart Balance ***Heart Righ***t Light Buttery Spread can aid in our quest to maintain a healthier heart profile.

Love The Smell, Love The Taste and Improves Cholesterol Ratios??

By

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

**I Can't Believe It's Not Real Butter **was always my choice of margarines/butter products, even after **SMART BALANCE** came onto the shelves, and was marketed as a healthy butter, said to improve cholesterol levels .......  I was slow to switch to **SMART BALANCE Buttery Spread.**

**SMART BALANCE Buttery Spread **is the only buttery spread I buy. I switched because the advertising and marketing convinced me:

*Non-Hydrogenated

*Excellent source of Omega-3s

*May improve the important cholesterol ratio

*No trans fatty acids

*Added Vitamins A, B6, B12, D and E

*Gluten Free

but, I am a repeat customer because, I love the smell, taste, and it's good for my cholesterol levels.

A butter alternative with some of the flavor

By

from Dayton, OH

Comments about Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread:

I'll be honest with you, this ain't butter.  You can taste the difference between butter and ***Smart Balance* Light Buttery Spread**.  But if you're even reading this, you either understand the importance of eating right or someone else has told you that you need to start.  Either way, you realize that flavor and taste isn't everything. ***Smart Balance* spread** has no trans fat, it's [lactose free][1] (important for those who're lactose intolerant), and no carbs.

With the rising epidemic of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes plaguing this country more of us are looking for healthy alternatives to the things we used to eat (or are weaning ourselves from).  Most foods, including butter, are still okay for you in moderation, but if you're ready to make the switch to a healthier alternative, ***Smart Balance* Light Buttery Spread** is an excellent replacement.

***Smart Balance*** **Light Buttery Spread** is recommended more as a topping or spread than for cooking. The regular spread should help you with that.
