Comments about ShopKick:
I have had a love-hate relationship with Shopkick, more or less depending on my cellphone Internet provider. When I was with Virgin Mobile, my Internet connection was never good enough to be able to use Shopkick. Then I switched to Sprint and it was great. Now I'm with Ting, it worked for a while, but lately I just can't get it to work. All I get is an error message: Houston, we have a problem.
Now this is how the app is supposed to work. You walk into certain stores, you stop at the door (which can be annoying, since people are trying to walk in and you're standing there waving your phone trying to get signal) and you get kicks, which can be redeemed for gift cards. In some stores, like Macy's, you need to get close to the speakers, where the music is louder. That never worked for me. The speakers are on the ceiling and the music is never loud, if any. I probably look crazy waving my phone towards the ceiling. You can get kicks from walking into stores like Old Navy, Target, Macy's, American Eagle, Best Buy and others. You also get kicks by scanning products, usually at Target. I have done this many times and it's really fun if you have the time. Basically you have items all over the store from personal care and household, to pet food and groceries. You have to make sure you scan the right item and you're done. At Target you can connect to their WiFi network instead of using your own Internet connection. It used to work for me, but now it doesn't anymore. The app still won't work.
But anyway, for those of you who have good reliable Internet, this is a great app. Especially if you take your time and scan items at Target, stop by a few more stores at the mall, you can easily get a $5 gift card in one day. They run special promotions throughout the year where you get extra kicks for walking into certain stores. If you usually get like 50 kicks for walking into Macy's, let's say, you can get 200 kicks on a special weekend. 500 kicks will get you a $2 Target gift card, while 1250 kicks can be redeemed for a $5 Target / Starbucks / Macy's / TJ Maxx /JC Penney / Old Navy gift card, just to name a few of them.Upon redeeming your kicks, you will receive the reward instantly and can be used in stores.
