* Brilliant golden beer with thick frothy beige head

* Subdued malt nose has both caramel and toasty notes; just a whiff of herbal hop aroma

* Dryish malt character up front opens up across the palate exposing mild sweetness, toasty flavor and hop bitterness

* Tangy hop flavor and firm bitterness take over...

Boston Lager is Samuel Adams flagship brew and best seller. It helped to launch the microbrew revolution back in the 1980's and it is still considered a good- tasting alternative to other mass- produced beer products.

This beer is very clean looking, with a well- filtered body, a nice head of foam, and...

First of all, I wanted to preface my review by explaining my sound bite. Not that I'm an alcoholic but I chose to imbibe 2 or 3 days a week and when I do, I usually drink at least 6 beers. According to Wikipedia, binge drinking is, "For a typical adult, this pattern corresponds to consuming 5 or more drinks (male), or 4 or more drinks (female), in about 1-3 hours". My defense is that I weigh around 215 pounds, maintain above average cardiovascular fitness so therefore my tolarance and rate of alcohol oxidation puts my inebriation level at about 12 drinks in 3 hours. Have I mentioned I have kids???...

Sam Adams is one of those breweries I look for when I need an inexpensive, refreshing beer. The Boston Lager pours as an amber/copper color with a relatively good, long head. The smell has a light molasses hint mixed with what I could best describe as burnt apple. is crisp with a medium to light body and a fair amount of hoppiness. There is a slight citrus flavor, perhaps orange, and a hint of clove. This is a pretty typical lager, with a malty start, but a surprisingly hoppy finish. Definitely a good party beer, especially if a variety of foods are going to be served. This drinks smoothly and...

I've tried a lot of beers in my day, and this beer always sticks out.  It is the only kind of beer I keep in the fridge except for Bud Light.  You can take your time with this beer and sip it because it still tastes great when it warms up a little bit.
