Nike Sportwatch GPS - a good watch for runners, but not the best

3

This is a good sportwatch for runners, but not as good as some others. One of my biggest problems is how long it takes to get a connection with a satellite. i have had it take as little as 5 seconds and as long as two minutes (from the same place, so there is no difference in terms of location/inside vs outside/trees and other barriers to signal/etc. It will keep track of your mileage and time, although I have seen it to be off by up to two-tenths of a mile on a 3 mile run. It also keeps track of your best time, and if you beat your previous best time it makes a rewarding chime to alert you of your new best time. The display is just numbers/text, no map images to show you where you have run. it takes a little while to get used to how to manage the watch with the three buttons on the side, but is pretty easy once you get used to it. If you have a large arm, try it on before you buy it. my arm is average in size (probably about 10 inches) and it barely fits me. if my arm were any wider then it would not be able to be clasped around my arm.

Fashionable User Friendly GPS Watch

I've never been one to use a GPS watch. Maybe I'm old school, but I used like to map out my run and then go with how I feel and let it dictate my pace rather than looking at a watch worrying about time. However, after running my last race and setting a personal best time, I thought I should give a GPS watch a try! When I purchased the Nike GPS, I wanted a middle of the road priced watch with minimal settings. I'm not into gadgets so I needed something user friendly, and this watch met all of my requirements. In particular, I liked the fact that the watch runs on a charge that I could plug into my computer or iPhone charger. Very convenient! The basic settings allow you to store all of your runs. It tells you when you've run your fastest or longest runs. If you chose to get competitive or want some accountability, you can post your results to social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter. The only reason I did not give this watch a 5 rating was that it's a little slow syncing at the beginning of your run. However, I have heard the same thing about the Garmin watches. Otherwise, I think this is a terrific watch for the price point. It's accurate, attractive looking and very user friendly!

The Nike GPS Sportswatch is not perfect but is a game changer

About Me: I am a middle of the road athlete. I run a 8:40 mile and work out 3-5 times a week. And I am a 43 year old male. And even though I have run on and off very lightly for years, I have never really fallen in love with running. But over the last year I have been able to improve my average time from 9:30 miles to 8:40 so that has encouraged me to keep pushing my pace to see if I can get it to under an 8 minute mile. When I ride my bike it really helps to have a device that measured my pace in real time to keep me pushing myself. But when I run I did not have something similar so when I saw the Nike GPS watch I thought that it would help to motivate me by showing me my pace as I ran. I have used MapMyRide, an iPhone app but I really need to see my pace as I am running and my iPhone is on my arm and not accessible in this way. So that was my primary motivation for buying the watch. I will say that I have also seen the positive benefits of having a very accurate record of my health related data as I have used a Withing scale over the last 18 months. About the The Nike SPG Sportswatch: It looks cool, is easy to wear and does exactly what is advertised, it tells you your pace and average pace and distance as you run. In my first three times out the most frustrating part of it is it takes way too long for the GPS to sync and be ready for you to run. This morning I waited 5-10 minutes and it never synced so I just started running and more than 5 minutes into my run it was finally ready. That is a pretty big flaw. I was also surprised to learn that it does not synch with Nike+ unless you plug it in. I guess in retrospect that makes sense but I would have thought it would have been able to sync without. So hopefully I will figure out how to get it to sync faster. But despite its flaws, I can already see that it will push me to run faster and longer. I will also say that an unexpected benefit of the watch is the encouraging words when you finish and the online Nike+ service. Seems silly, but it is actually pretty motivating to not only see your stats in real time as you run but have your watch congratulate you on distance, pace and any personal bests when you finish.
