great keyboard at its price range

Comments about Microsoft SideWinder X6 Keyboard:

I've Found this board excellent for gaming & business! I own four of these boards as I own multiple PCs! With 3 banks to run the macro keys off of, it works great for computers with multiple users! I use one bank for quick access to favorite sites another for alot of your repetitive stuff in business typing!Tons and tons of function keys, detachable number pad, nice and shiny red back lightThe number pad, when attached to the keyboard, is held on by two little magnets. While it can handle a decent amount of down force, it tends to separate easily with up force. I like to have my keyboard in my lap and I sometimes find the num pad will get disconnected if that edge of the keyboard is on the arm rest of my chair. It would be nice if it had a clip on system or recessed the magnets a bit so the only way to take it off would be to pull straight out, but this is really only a minor gripe. Still five eggs worthy. Also, it would have been uber awesome if the num pad connected to the keyboard with a USB instead of whatever little proprietary connector it is. Then I could just hook them together with a usb extension cable. Pipe dream, I know...

love the aesthetic, looks really cool, especially in the dark

Comments about Microsoft SideWinder X6 Keyboard:

Love the flat keys. I hate having my fingers raised more then they have to plus it feels like I can press the keys faster then with the raised key keyboards. I also feel like I've pressed the key fully down instead of like most flat keyboards where you don't feel the resistance of the key so it feels incomplete and leaves your hands hurting after long hours of typing. The removable number pad is very useful since for some games I us a game pad so it not only saves on room but I don't feel like I'm stretching out too far to reach the game or mouse. Also for games that I don't use the game pad I can use the number pad for its extra macros. Macros I'll go into this more later. With 3 different setting modes I can setup 1 for standard keyboard, 1 for gaming, and the last for work. Allowing me to change modes and use different macros or key settings. This is the best keyboard I've ever owned. I love the feel of the keys and it is very quiet. There isn't that springy "clacking" noise when you press keys and they pop back up. The feedback from the keys is just right. The adjustable red backlight is perfect and makes the keyboard very easy to read in both daytime and nighttime/low light conditions.

awesome keyboard

Comments about Microsoft SideWinder X6 Keyboard:

Let me start by saying I have a thing against Microsoft anything, but I also have to be fair. I have had a Logitech 15 and more recently a Saitek Cyborg. Both of these had issues. With the Logitech the letters on the keyboard started to wear out and the Saitech had issues with sound and the space bar got stuck over time and the keys were horrible to press on. Also this must have had the worst documentation of all time. So I replaced it with this Microsoft keyboard as I swallowed my pride and my dislike for Microsoft. I have to say that even though the sidewinder does not have all the bells and whistles of the other two mentioned, one forgets about it for these reasons. The keyboard is smaller and the lighting is well lit and soothing. You can move the number pad to the right or left. The keys on the board seem rather sturdy. You can also program you keys to what you need and there is something called cruise control so when you press this key you can continue the action of that paticular key without holding it down. There is a volume control and lighting brightness that works well. I still feel that a USB slot would have come in handy, but this still seems like a quality keyboard and so far I like it more than I thought I would.
