Unexpected and blown away
Ok as a heads up I was not expecting this device to be shipped with my order from Apple themselves. I did contact them back about the device being sent to me thou I do not remember ordering it, but they were kind enough to just let me keep it. Size; this thing is small, about the size of a netbook keyboard I would say, typing on it is quite straight forward and mistype or typos appear pretty much the same as you would be doing on a typical keyboard. Build; the keyboard is made of both metal and plastic, (metal base, plastic keys), there are some rubber pieces on the bottom of the device to prevent it from slipping. The quality is quite good in terms of feel and thou the unit is made mostly out of metal it does not feel heavy. Connection: the keyboard uses Bluetooth tech to get its connection to your devices and has some decent range (if your batteries still have a decent charge), thanks to this it does not need a dongle as you would expect from most other wireless technology. Out of general interest and because I was board at the time I tried pairing the keyboard to other devices, so far I got it working with my apple TV (2nd gen) as the remote, my ipad, and also android phone. I've not tried with the iPhone due to the latest ios messing up the Bluetooth function so maybe when the next update fixes this I'll try it. Everything I paired it up with worked fine and I would suggest that if you have an Apple TV you definitely pair it up to the device as it make surfing the various channels and searching much easier and simpler, as a full on keyboard I would suggest getting a full sized version of the apple keyboard if you have the space and plan on using this as your full time keyboard, as having the the number-pad is a great help when entering numerical data. For a using on the go with mobile devices such as an ipad or anything you can pair this keyboard with I would suggest you get one if you need to type alot, as other branded bluetooth keyboards I tried, either did not have such as long of life in terms of battery life, or was of much smaller size making it difficult to type quickly. Performance I managed to get about 4 months worth of heavy usage out of some standard duracell batteries Durability considering I use this not only as my main keyboard but also for my portable devices are well, the amount of times I've dropped and treated this thing with no concern, I'm surprised the only thing wrong with mine is the back being slightly scratched. Design it's an apple product, it goes well with all their latest products but for some the metal and white keys seem a bit cold, thou I don't mind this at all. Comfort considering the size of the keyboard and the fact that I use it on the go, it is very comfortable, I have fairly large hands and I have no difficulty with it.
