Excellent fiber supplement.

I take Metamucil Multi-Health Fiber for a variety of reasons. Firstly, for the obvious reasons you take a fiber supplement...to help with regularity. I would have a problem with this if I didn't take Metamucil. Works wonders. Secondly, I take it for help with cholesterol control. My cholesterol is only slightly high (not nearly high enough to consider taking a prescription medication) and I would like to lower it a bit. After taking it daily for a few months and rechecking my cholesterol, it was back down to the normal range without doing anything else. I don't mind the taste or texture of this Metamucil. I wouldn't drink it for enjoyment, but it's not bad considering what it is. I just mix it up in a little less water than the instructions say and drink it down as quick as possible. I usually take it at night and get it all down within a few seconds. The taste isn't bad at all, but it can be a little thick and gritty, which isn't exactly pleasant, but it's not as bad as the "old" Metamucil.

I have ever been able to get used to the grainy texture, or the horrible orange taste of this fiber supplement. I have always had a problem with occasional constipation, and relied on these sort of bulk forming powders quite a bit. I find the flavor and feel of this particular brand pretty unbearable though, and it has stopped me from using it. it seems that no matter what I put it in or how well I mixed it, nothing would disguise the distinct flavor and grit at the bottom of the glass. Aside from the unpleasantness, its effectiveness was very fleeting, I found. For the first three days of taking it, things worked very well. Then suddenly it would just stop working and I would be worse off than before. So I would back off of taking it, then restart again with the same results, over and over. For a fiber supplement that you are supposed to take very day, this just did not work consistently enough for me to continue using.

Great for diet control, and then some.

I originally used this to try to make myself feel fuller, thus reducing my actual amount of food eaten. Since these are made of fiber that the body can't digest, this fulfills that purpose. Additionally, this helps you go to the bathroom much easier without the danger of laxatives (laxatives actually dehydrate you and can be dangerous). What this product does instead is just makes your feces retain enough moisture to come out smooth and clean. You also happen to drink more water - useful if you find yourself drinking less than the recommended amount by doctors (I believe a total of 8 cups per day). One of the things I noticed and was surprised about was that my cholesterol and triglyceride levels dropped from a high level to within range. My sugar levels also dropped to an acceptable level. It should be noted that I didn't change my exercise habits at the time. My main exercise was just walking to class, to the bus stop, and standing. Nothing very extraneous at all. Finally, I like this product because of the orange flavor and texture. If you use this product, try it with very cold water!

Sugar Free Orange Metamucil

Years ago my family doctor suggested I take bulk laxatives such as Metamucil to help deal with the occasional occurrance of constipation. I have tried regular Metamucil orange and berry flavor, as well as this sugar free version. I also have used Citrusel orange, which I find to be superior to all of the Metamucil versions (I'll explain later on in my review). Metamucil Sugar Free Orange contains the usual ingredient, psyllium husk, but ti contains the artificial sweetener aspartame instead of sugar. If you are a diabetic, this may be a good choice for you. This is not a fast acting laxative, it can take me two or three days of taking one or two doses a day, to get relief. The relief is always gentle and natural, and I don't hardly ever get the cramping that harsh laxatives can cause. My issue is with the flavor. I refuse to put this in water and drink it that way, it tastes awful. So I add it to a glass of orange juice, which makes it much more palatable. It is smoother in texture than the Metamucil regular version, so the fact that it is less gritty is nice as well. Still, I prefer the taste of Citrusel, which is even smoother and blends better into liquids.

The first time I tried Metamucil I added it to water. It didn't mix too well, and I didn't like the taste at all. Now that has all changed. I still can't say that I would drink it by choice, but it is better. I got the sugar free kind because Len is diabetic. I was sent 2 sample packets, so I tried one of them. I have to say that it dissolved well. It smelled of orange, looked like orange, and had an average orange taste. Nothing that I would want to drink, but it certainly is drinkable. I have it just before bedtime, and then in the morning, I usually have a bowel movement. My irregularity isn't often, and is only minor. One dose and I am good.
