Progression Wake Up is great for morning haters

5

It's a clock, it's the sun -- if you want, it's even your morning cup of java. This clock does it all -- and that's fantastic because who likes waking up at the crack of dawn? The progression clock is meant to wake you up, well, progressively. Half an hour before your alarm is set to go off, the light comes on. It gradually -- in spurts -- gets brighter. Approximately fifteen minutes later, a "gentle" (electronic) sound kicks in. This is enough to wake me up, so I had to adjust my time accordingly. However, apparently if that doesn't wake you up, the actual (likely annoying) alarm goes off in another fifteen minutes. With this progression, comes the scent portion of the clock. If you put the (included) scent granules in the top, the heat from the light creates a gradual, subtle scent. You can also use a cotton ring to put in your own scented oil if you prefer. It even has a fall-asleep function. You can have it gradually get darker, and there can be soothing scent and sound.

A gentle, gradual wake-up is healthier than a blaring alarm.

I purchased the **Hammacher-Schlemmer Progression Wake Up Clock** a few years ago. It had been strongly recommended to me by a health professional. The explanation was that with my adrenal problems, a blaring, startling alarm was forcing me to begin my day with a jolt, which then robbed me of energy I needed later in the day. (My explanation may not be eloquent, but it really is a negative way to start a day, whether you have health issues or not.) This pyramid-shaped tower allows you to choose many combinations of light, scent and sound to help you unwind or wake up. The light can be turned on as a night light at full or dimmed brightness, and can be used alone or with a scent of your choice. Six options are available for soothing audio such as a zen melody or nature sounds. These settings can be arranged to help you go to sleep or to wake up. The best part of the waking cycle of the **Hammacher-Schlemmer Progression Wake Up Clock **is that it begins to glow about 30 minutes before you need to get up. The glow gradually increases, and if you added a scent, the warmth from the light will begin to release the aroma. (My suggestion is to get some quality essential oils to use on the included felt ring rather than using the plastic beads with synthetic scents that come with the clock.) You can choose to add a sound to the cycle, and even enjoy an 8-minute snooze cycle if you're not quite ready to roll out. The instructions explain fairly well how to set each of the options within both the wind-down and wake-up modes, as well as how to use any of the options separate from the modes. It can be a little confusing at first simply because there are so many possible combinations. But once you get the hang of it, you are likely to be very happy with the **Hammacher-Schlemmer Progression Wake Up Clock.**
