Folgers Black Silk Review

This is Folgers?  Yup!  Deep, dark, smoky but smooth.  No hint of bitterness so often found in extra dark roasts.  This is a coffee with chops.

Let me back up a bit.  Awhile ago I wrote about Folgers Gourmet Supreme.  At that time it was the darkest roast Folgers produced and both Veronica and I like it as our everyday coffee.  Interestingly, some of our friends find it a bit to bold and prefer something lighter.  So, we keep some Columbian Medium Roast on hand for them.

At the time, I can recall saying that Gourmet Supreme was an excellent coffee with coffee lovers (not necessarily snobs) as its target market.

Well Black Silk goes all the way.  It would be hard to imagine anyone who enjoys a deep dark roast not enjoying the flavor of Black Silk.  Coffee lovers won't mind enjoying it out of its easy to open red plastic container.  Snobs may want to put it into a new, unmarked airtight container.  Either way, you're going to fall hard for this coffee.

Price

Black Silk is priced no differently than Folgers Columbian, French Roast or Gourmet Supreme.  An approximately 32 oz. container for about $9.00.  A very modest price for quality coffee.  Here in S. Florida, Publix periodically runs it as a loss leader and reduces the price to an amazing $4.99.  Picture if you will what my grocery cart must look like on these occasions.

Where to Buy

Generally, Black Silk should be available at all major supermarket chains that feature Folgers.  I have noticed though that it has been in short supply lately.  It is currently available in a 3 pack on Amazon for about $29.00.

My Viewpoint

Coffee doesn't have to be frighteningly expensive to be excellent.  If you like your coffee deep and bold, you'll want to give Black Silk a try.
