Firefly - The Complete Series Review Summary

Though unknown to most television viewers at the time, Joss Whedon's Firefly earned an intense cult following that was a hit with many, including our reviewers. "This is by far the best sci fi series ever created" exclaims one reviewer. Now, with Firefly: The Complete Series "Joss Wheden Fans should be in heaven". Following the space ship Serenity and it's crew of "strangely group of people who come together by odd circumstances" Firefly doesn't follow the usual stereotypes of other scifi series (no aliens, no lasers) and thus avoids being formulaic, say our reviewers. Though cancelled before it's time, this "completely underestimated" show has been made into a full length film. Interested if it was as popular amongst our reviewers as Firefly: The Complete Series? The Case

In 2002, a new show from Joss Whedon (the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) aired on Fox.  This show was called Firefly.  Not even a year later, it was summarily canceled.  Most television viewers in America have never heard of this show, partly because it wasn't on the air very long and partly because it wasn't advertised/scheduled well when it was.  It came softly and departed silently.  And that was the end of that.  Except that it wasn't.

This story, my friends, is one of the greatest tragedies in television history - and also one of the greatest successes.  I...

In a perfect world, or at least one with network executives that care about quality programming, Firefly: The Complete Series would contain more than 14 episodes. Making its debut on the Fox network in the fall of '02, Firefly was shuffled around the schedule, with episodes shown out of order, and never got a chance to find an audience. It was cancelled in 2003, but returned in 2005 as a feature film, Serenity.

A labor of love for writer-producer Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel), the series is a cross between Star Trek and The Wild Bunch, a combination space opera and adult western....

This is one of my favorit series. If your looking for great graphics and a thoroughly enjoyable action packed series it is deffinitly the way to go! It won an Emmy in 2003 for "Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series". With a little cheese some romance and plot twists you wont see coming, I give it a 5 star! Great flick for a couple. Firefly is an American science fiction television series created by writer/director Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, under his Mutant Enemy Productions. Its naturalistic future setting, modeled after traditional Western movie motifs,...

First, let me preface this review by telling you that I am not a sci-fi lover... I just happened to marry one.

My husband bought the complete series of Firefly when it came out on DVD and promptly watched the entire thing straight through - with me sitting in on a good portion of the episodes. After one, I was hooked. The storyline is a tad hard to follow at first (eh, are we in the future? the past? what's with the western gear and spaceship being on the same show?) but once you let go of your grip on reality and clear your mind, the show is fantastic.

The only reason I knocked my rating down...

This television series was the best sci fi series ever created. Joss Whedon is a genious and it really shows in this wonderful show. There are no aliens, no unchartered worlds, just great characters and great stories. Joss Whedon creates a universe in the future that is familiar to all of us because of it is heaped with references to our past. The world as we know it, is no more. Humans have traveled far out into space and started new worlds on new planets. The even teraformed the planets to be more like earth as we once knew it. Some planets took to the teraforming, some did not. This is the story... review »

This late, great TV series created by Joss Whedon, who also created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, remains one of the best TV series ever created for TV, even more than four years after it's premature cancelation by Fox Television.  Featuring a cast that clicked from the very first episode, this 14-episode series had humor, action, drama, intriging characters and even romance.   The series is set in a future world where humans, having outgrown earth, have ventured out into the depths of space to settle a new solar system run by a meddling conglomerate-style government called the Alliance. ...

To be honest I'm not usually a great fan of the sci-fi genre in general but I stumbled upon the movie Serenity at the good ol' Red Box a while back and decided to give it a try.  I took an instant liking to the movie mostly because of the witty dialogue and great characters.  Afterwards, I went to IMDb and started looking at other films some of the actors also appeared in.  That's where I found Firefly.

My reaction to seeing the description of Firefly was: Wow!  There's a Serenity series too!?

I personally really enjoyed this series.  Having seen Serenity, I knew what to expect in the way of setting,...

Televison execs need to start giving shows a chance before they cancelthem. It used to be that a show had a REGULAR time slot, week after week, and was given a FULL season, if not more, to buikd an audience. These days, shows are often yanked after just a handful of episodes, before viewers even knew it was there, or evern where it was inthe schedule.

Firefly was a victim of such mismanagement. The shows were NOT aired in sequence, and therefore viewers had no chance of following the plot. ANd it had a built-in audience of Buffy and Angel fans, so the network REALLY bungled this one. They could...

Who would have thought Western and Sci-Fi could mix?  This show is brilliant.  If you're into Sci-Fi at all, you will love Firefly.  If you're not, you may still love it.  To be honest, the first time I heard the theme song, I wondered why people liked that tune, but that song grows on you.  You will end up singing it.  The show itself is intriguing.  You root for the characters as you see them be both good and bad at the same time, because they are rogues and thieves with a conscience... except for one of them, but you see him possibly starting to develop one... and there's always good... review »

This is not a well known series. I actually watched the movie Serenity first. I liked it and I am not a huge sci-fi fan, eventhough I do enjoy it on occassion. While trolling the movie rental place I was running out of options. I had watched almost everything else they had, I had a frequent (daily) rental habit!  I went into the TV series section once again looking for anything I had not seen. I came across the four disc set of Firefly. I only rented the first one thinking if it was not good I would not waste my money besides I haven't really heard of anyone in this, But I like the movie so........ review »

My boyfriend tried for months to get me to watch this show, Firefly. It wasnt till we had to separate in different states due to school that I buckled down to see what the fuss was about? Boy was I pleasantly surprise and instantly fell in love with this series.

The cast of characters are so unlike the usual sci-fi shows like Star Trek and Battle Star Galatica! These are rogue characters on the run and very hew-man! Its neat to see the mix of sci-fi and western wrapped all in one. And I never got bored watching any of the episodes! In fact I may purchase the series on DVD to watch anytime my heart...

Fox TV did not do this series justice!  They showed it out of order which confused so many people.  I believe that it is this reason that led to the poor showing of this AMAZING series by Joss Wheden, creator of Buffy and Angel, and geek supreme!

The show is a western/sci fi mix.  A fantastic combination with well written scripts, three dimentional characters and a more than a smattering of sex appeal!    This is for the sofisticated viewer who wants to be involved in the story not merely spoon fed some contrived glop.

As a testiment to the show's strength and power, a group of fans propelled...

One of my friends recomended Firefly to me a couple of months back, so I checked it out. I was instantly hooked after the first episode! It was hilarious! It was action filled! It was brilliant! The mixture of characters is perfect and completely inthralling. I couldn't stop watching the entire series. I had to watch every episode after another! It's just to bad that it ended only after 12 episodes, that's the trully disapointing part about the whole ordeal. It has a movie follow up though, one that's supposed to leave an end to the series. Sadly, it doesn't really end it, it does answer alot of...

One of the best SF series ever, along with Battlestar Galactica (the new incarnation) & Star Trek (original & Next Generation).  That being said, Firefly had something none of the others possessed...a genuine ability to tell a great story without relying on robots or aliens.  No wonder it never found a niche...network TV had no idea what to do with it!  It had a core cast of genuinely likeable characters who didn't always like (or trust) each other but who managed to come together to pursue a common goal.  Loved Mal, Kaylee, Book & Jane.  While River & Simon were fascinating, they were not... review »

So sad, but true. This was one of the best shows going that never got a real chance. Great characters and wonderful fun with the stories and development. Naturally, it got the ax.... But all hope was not lost, the movie Serenity tied some things up nicely and opened other doors for potential continuation.

I thought it would be strange when it first came on. A space western? guns and space travel? no lasers or aliens? hmm... but it so worked, and more, the universe created for it made it make sense. Such a motley group and without the stereotypes, individual characters just seemed to fit the skin...
