Rescued my dog from a backyard breeder that was giving him away. He was only a year old, never vet checked, matted, flea ridden and his nails were embedded in his paw pads. In the first month of getting this pooch, my husband and I spent over $800 just in vet bills, grooming, and for his essentials.
This little dog is now healthy, beautiful, and a loving, appreciative companion. He rarely barks or whines, very non sexual (does not hump like alot of other male breeds do), and is just a joy to have around. He is very playful and attentive, yet can be very laid back and just be a lazy little...
read full review »if you are looking for a dog a shih tzu is the way to go, as long as you are looking for a mellow, cute cuddly dog. they are very intuitive with peoples feelings and extremly smart. our shih tzu knows how to get what she wants, short story, out shih tzu knew she was not supposed to be eating the dorito chips left on the counter, so she would eat a little at a time so that we would not be suspision. she is the alfa dog in the house, our other dog is a lab/ pit mix and the shih tzu tells him who is boss. she belives she is a big dog but in no larger than a cat. at times she seems like a...

I have a male, 3 year old Shih Tzu named Skittles. So Ive made sure to know as much as possible about his breed so that I can take care of him the way he should be. SHih Tzu's do not get very big at all.
It is believed that this ornamental breed was created by breeding the Bei-jing gou (Pekingese) with a Tibetan dog breed, the Lhasa Apso.. Recent DNA analysis confirms that this is one of the oldest breeds of dog. The Shih Tzu is also known as the Chinese/Tibetan Lion Dog or the Chrysanthemum Dog. It is called the chrysanthemum dog because its face looks very much like the flower.

read full review »My pure Shih Tzu is a real pain in the.....side. lol His name is Tater Tot and I've had him for 2 years now. He's not a very hyper dog but is very territorial and tries to hump everything in site. They do not like having long hair in the summer because they get hot easily and it's best to keep them shaved or take them to the groomer if your dog is outside a lot in the summer. You have to brush them almost everyday to avoid hair clumping and ratting. We have to get ours sheered sometimes which is a very close haircut to the skin because his hair gets way to ratted to brush through. I've found that...
read full review »I own 3 shih tzus, if I was rich and had room, I'd own 20. These animals are the most wonderful dogs I have ever encountered. Their personality is unbelievably like a human's. They are great with other animals, kids, strangers, you name it. I have had other breeds of dogs, all wonderful, but shih tzus are just amazing. So cute, it hurts.
Shih Tzu's make great pets! My 19 month old "baby", Snoopy, is very bright, very very mischevious and a fantastic pet. He's stubborn but easily trainable. He's a great companion. I would highly recommend this breed to anybody looking for a sweet, lovable, friendly small dog!
