I met my boyfriend about 3 years ago and when I was introduced to the family, I met Wicket. Wicket was his male Shih tzu who was 6 years old at the time. He was a total sweet heart to me, he just would sit in my lap or nuzzle up next to me. I guess that was a sign that I was welcome into the family.

If I spent the night he would jump in the bed with me and fall asleep behind my knees. When my bf (now fiance) would leave for work at 6AM Wicket would keep me company. I tend to spoil him now and then by letting him sit on this big pillow on the couch. He's grown to accept that as his throne and always...

The Shih Tzu

I have a male, 3 year old Shih Tzu named Skittles. So Ive made sure to know as much as possible about his breed so that I can take care of him the way he should be. SHih Tzu's do not get very big at all.

It is believed that this ornamental breed was created by breeding the Bei-jing gou (Pekingese) with a Tibetan dog breed, the Lhasa Apso.. Recent DNA analysis confirms that this is one of the oldest breeds of dog. The Shih Tzu is also known as the Chinese/Tibetan Lion Dog or the Chrysanthemum Dog. It is called the chrysanthemum dog because its face looks very much like the flower.

Rescued my dog from a backyard breeder that was giving him away. He was only a year old, never vet checked, matted, flea ridden and his nails were embedded in his paw pads. In the first month of getting this pooch, my husband and I spent over $800 just in vet bills, grooming, and for his essentials.

This little dog is now healthy, beautiful, and a loving, appreciative companion. He rarely barks or whines, very  non sexual (does not hump like alot of other male breeds do), and is just a joy to have around. He is very playful and attentive, yet can be very laid back and just be a lazy little...

Sampson is his name and being my playful and protective best friend is his game!  I named him Sampson after Sampson in the Bible! I figured he has long hair and he doesn't look strong, but hook him to a leash and off you go! He is 4 years old and the proud papa of 8 different children! He doesn't bark and yap! He is loving and understanding. He kisses me every morning and plays then rides with me everywhere! He knows when I say Sampson lets go he is at the door waiting! If you are getting a dog and you need a companion this is your type of dog! Now be careful,  their eyes are are not well protected... read full review »

i love the shih tzu breed of dogs. ive had one for almost 6 years. he learns quickly. they are amazing temperment dogs. they are non allergenic so you can bring them anywhere. they dont shed. some have long hair which mine does which is good cuz i like to play with combing and brushing it. they dont require much work. just walks and food. science diet is the best food for them to eat as i was told by my vet. every now and then they love to play ruff. my shih tzu keeps up in play time with my families yellow and black labs. and they love to cuddle. very friendly.

The Shih-Tzu is a WONDERFUL dog.  They are small, affectionate, and quiet.  Most small dogs are yappy, but this dog only barks when he TRULY needs something.  Sometimes, he is playful, and sometimes he just likes to lay with you.  When it thunders, he sunggles in real close.  It's so sweet.  We just love him to death, and when our larger dogs (we love them, too!) cross the "rainbow bridge" as they are both almost 10 years older, we plan to get little Leo a Shih-Tzu girlfriend!

I was given my Shih Tzu as a present 3 yrs. ago and I was never a fan of this type of dog. Now as I have had my lil baby for awhile I have fallen in love with this breed. They are perfect size. I have a Blue Healer as well. The Shih Tzu is able to go with me every where as the big dog isn't. If you are looking for a loyal, go everywhere you go companion. The Shih Tzu is the way to go. I have a female black and white and she is 14 pds. full grown.

I have owned 3 shih tzu's over the years and they are wonderful dogs.  The only con is their long hair needing to be groomed but at least it doesn't shed.  Shih tzu's can be aloof but mine have loved everyone they meet and always want to be the center of attention.  I love that they don't bark unless another animal comes in our yard.  These are wonderful pets.

I own 3 shih tzus, if I was rich and had room, I'd own 20.  These animals are the most wonderful dogs I have ever encountered.  Their personality is unbelievably like a human's.  They are great with other animals, kids, strangers, you name it.  I have had other breeds of dogs, all wonderful, but shih tzus are just amazing.  So cute, it hurts.

I highly recommend picking a Shih Tzu breed when you are looking for a dog. They are very lovable and get along great with everyone. They do have to be groomed often.

These dogs are very very cute. I don't know if its the hair or the weird face, but I find them to be very nice. They have an eccentric personality and like to do weird things such as biting on your living-room table or hiding somewhere in the house. If you spoil them too much they wont pay as much attention when commanding them and so training will be more difficult. Since they have lots of hair they require constant grooming, I recommend buying hair clipper so you can groom them at home.
