I have a beautiful 4 year old American Pitt Bulldog named Maggie. She is such a good girl. We have hand raised her since she was 3 weeks old. Of course she is an inside dog and thinks she is still small enough to sit in your lap! We have 4 children and 1 grandchild and Maggie loves  them all. She would...

I have had many breeds in my life and yes I understand that Pits get a bad rap.  I have known many and they are loving dogs.

I rescued a red nose pit several years ago and she is just a gem.  She is a therapy dog for a disabled person and loves every moment of it.  She goes into stores and is always...

Pits get a bad wrap.  I own a beautiful six year old female red nose named Lillie.  She's been in my family since my oldest daughter was two.  In fact Lillie is as old as my youngest daughter Cameron.  Both of my girls grew up around her and they loved playing with her.  The only complaints I ever got about Lillie were that she licked people too much and that she would get too excited when I introduced her to new friends.  A lot of my friends have had pits and I could say similar praises for their dogs as well.  The great thing with this breed is that they all have different personalities...

Consider rescuing an American Pit Bull Terrier. I did, and it's the best thing I did. We went to the pound to look for another dog, pit bulls weren't even on our radar. And we fell for a sad little 6 month old pup that we were forced to walk by. She has turned out to be amazing; easily trainable, friendly to EVERYONE, loyal, cuddly, charming, fun, even tempered, lovable . . . . I could go on.

Some things to know about pit bulls:

The DO have a lot of energy - you must walk them and play with them regularly. This is a dog that must be a part of your life. To put ANY dog on a short chain in a...

I know that everyone out there has heard of the phrase, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." Not all Pits are bad my little sister has a female and a male pit and they are the sweetest, most tame dogs I have ever seen. Now even though I have three dogs of my own I am deathly afraid of dogs that I don't know. When my sister brought her pits to visit I was able to see how this type of dog acted and they are loving and very funny to watch play in the snow. Her dogs are so spoiled that my sister has to keep her t.v. on the Animal Planet while she is at work or they will cry and moan the entire time...

My roommmate's pitt bull terrier just had the cutest litter of puppies! She (the dog) had 10..I'm told that it's unusual for a litter to have 10 in it and have all the pups survive. My roommate made sure these pups had the chance to stay and grow up in this world. She was very conscience about the well-being of those little ones.

I'm also told that the breed is hard to own; the animal people in the city won't allow anyone under 18 to adopt one, and you have to have a 6 foot fence. Plus, a whole slew of other requirements go along, just for adopting a pitt bull terrier. That is unfortunate because...

i think more people need to understand the breed before they judge that type of dog. pits are aggressive but they have a almost person like personality. my dog is aggressive when she needs to be and perfect with my kids. my dog lets my 2 year old ride her around the house, in fact she helps my daughter get on her back(the dog).my dog also makes sure my kids are safe. she lets me know when one of them gets hurt. shes the best dog i ever owned. i have had 6 pits and all of them were great dogs.

APBT's aren't for everyone. They require a very responsible owner who is out to make the breed proud. There is so much negativity surrounding this breed. However, there is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner! Sure they can be genetically predisposed to be dog aggressive, but responsible ownership can handle that. Rescuing an APBT who is 2 or older gives you a better sense of temperment, because you never know with puppies how their temperment will be. They require a good amount of exercise and aren't for the owner who doesn't want to give them this exercise! They are loyal to humans especially... review »

The American Pit Bull Terrier~pitty~pit or whatever other nickname.  These dogs are so very sweet and loyal, they make wonderful pets whether you have children or not.

The nasty people that breed them to be mean and train them to fight are the animals~you can make any animal mean...not just the Pit Bull.  Breed bans are horrible, people need to research the breed and the breeders before making a decision on a pit or any dog.

Give these babies a chance, get to know them and you will fall in love with them.

I just want to say to you all, thanks for giving the breed a chance. All the things that you see on the news about pit bulls, isn't the dogs fault. Those dogs were poorly raised by their owners and died because of it. If you take the time out to train your animal right, and socialize it with other animals as well as people, you will have no problems UNLESS someone tries to harm you. Pit bulls are not naturally aggressive, they are trained to be this way and it is not fair to the breed to stand them out from the rest. My famous line, "Whether it be a chiuaua, pit bull, or a great dane... if you... review »

I have had the joy of owning a pit bull mix and he was the best dog i'v ever had.  before bringing him home i did my research on pit bulls plus had a bad family experience as a child.  i'm a firm believer and also proof that it's all in how you raise them (but genetics do play a small part).  my mix was the only one of 13 puppies that did NOT bite anybody.  he was well socialized and was just a big pushover who greatly enjoyed the company of other dogs.  if people would take responsibility and properly raise thier dogs no matter what breed and stop using horrible training tactics as well as... review »

I have 3 pit bull grand dogs.  2 females Ceili and Ruca and 1 male Seamus.  Seamus is a gorgeous blue and is a little over 3 years old and weighs in at 92 pounds and thinks he's a cat and loves to sit on your lap!  Ceili is chocolate brown and afraid of everything and loving as can be, is great around other dogs and all people and then there's our baby Ruca who's 8 months old and a gorgeous brindle.  She's the sweetest licker ever and just as lovable as can be.  They are all great walkers and love to chase each other around the yard!  I was never really a dog person till these wonderful animals... review »

The truth about pittbulls.....well that depends on its owner just like any dog.But the truth is they're great ,loyal, loving family dogs .Which only got its bad name from their bad owners.Rescue one from any shelter and they are the most grateful creatures on earth. Most people get them while theyre puppies and dont realize or expect their size and playfulness. Once they get big some people dont know how to handle them and simply dump them in the streets or at the pound either way they get killed. Wake up people!!! Give these dogs the love they deserve , and stop the sterotype already its old!!!!!!... review »

Pittbulls' temperaments are how you raise them.  Mine was raised by a greyhound and a pug.  Interesting combination, but it works in our home.  The pug beats up the pittbull, and he just licks her head.  Was not a fan of the breed prior to my husband getting him (2 months before he met me), however, he has warmed my heart and changed my mind.

I work in an animal hospital and I think Pit Bulls are one of the sweetest breeds. I fell as though I am always defending the breed. I recommend them to families. There are a ton of pits in shelters. Give one a home! Almost every Pit Bull I come in contact with has nothing but kisses and tail wags for me. I love them.
