Saves lots of time!

5

I got this as a gift for Christmas and I could not imagine my life without it. I was shredding cheese blocks and potatoes with a manual shredder and I cut my hand with it more times than I can count. When I got this attachment for my KitchenAid it not only saved me time, but also band aids. The box comes with the attachment holder, two slicer sleeves (one large and one small) and two shredder attachments (one for thin shreds and the other for thicker shreds). I have used the shredder attachments to shred chicken, blocks of cheese, potatoes, and carrots. It does a fabulous job. It shreds so quickly it shocked me. It saves me so much time as opposed to manually shredding it. I will say that sometimes there are larger portions of what you are shredding that gets stuck between the shredding sleeve and attachment holder. But once you remove the sleeve you can get it out. One other negative is that sometimes I cannot get the sleeve out of the attachment holder. A lot of times my husband has to come get it out for me. But overall I am not in the least disappointed with this. I am very happy to have this attachment set and cannot wait to get the next attachment!

KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Accessory for Stand Mixer RVSA

I purchased this product for my husband's christmas present.  I bought the set that came with two slicers and two shreaders.  we love to have salad but don't care for the packaged salad greens that they sell in the grocery stores.  we like the vegetables fresh, but by the time you cut and slice the carrots, cucumbers, radishes etc. you've spent a lot of time making your salad.  these shreaders and slicers, which you can make in different widths or thicknesses make short work of this.  I found that the attachments are fairly easy to put on and take off of the stand mixer.  they come apart easily for fast cleanup also.  I hope to use this product for many things this next summer as I harvest vegetables from my garden.  It will make short work of slicing potatoes for fried potatoes or using the shreader to make quick work of mashed potatoes.  having the potatoes shreaded will make them cook very quickly.  I would deffinately recommend this product to others.

KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Accessory

I love the slicer/shredder accessory for my KitchenAid mixer. It shreds much faster and easier than if I have to do it manually and doesn't make the food mushy either. I save money by buying big blocks of cheese and shredding it myself instead of paying for prepackaged shredded cheese at the store which also has additives to keep the cheese separated (who needs more additives). My other main uses for the shredder are for zuchinni and carrots to make breads with my garden surplus every summer. I like having two different sizes to choose from as well. I like the speed of it for making hashbrowns as it keeps my potatoes from turning colors before I cook them. I haven't used the slicer as much, in fact, I can't think of what I used it for last to tell how it worked! Clean up has been no problem, I just detach and throw it into the dishwasher and that's it.

The KitchenAid Slicer/Shredder is a nice but not worth the work!

I asked for this attachment for Christmas a few years ago and I wished I hadn't. There are many other things that I could've used instead. The Slicer/Shredder is a great option if you have alot of slicing or shredding to do. I do not make alot of potatoes or other things that need sliced. The shredder portion I use more often, for shredding cabbage and zucchini. But its ALOT of work....to attach all of it, cut the veggie into portions so it fits, putting it through the shredder, and then cleaning out the shredder. The little pieces of food always stick to the sides of it which makes it extremely hard to clean. I have to pick at it while I am washing it to get all the small particles of food. It is very handy to have a tool to do this with though. I like being able to get zucchini into small pieces without alot of work...I use shredded zucchini for breads/cakes, etc. I enjoy having it as an option but it does take up space for how little its used.

Complicated and messy

2

Given how much I LOVE my Kitchenaid mixer, I was a little surprised at how much I didn't like this attachment.  Actually, I was so disappointed that I sold it in my next garage sale.  First of all, it was always pretty difficult to put together and take apart, and a real pain to clean.  Food got stuck in crevices, you can't throw it all in the dishwasher, and it always had spots on it after washing.  Also, it made a big mess when I used it.  There's no straightforward way of catching the food as it's sliced or shredded, and I always had a mess on my countertops.  I found that the hassle of putting it together, taking it apart, and cleaning up the messes was much more time consuming than just slicing or grating by hand.  And since I use my food processor for those tasks anyway, this attachment was unnecessary.  I'd recommend not wasting your money on this one, as there are other products out there that will do the job much better.

This is one KitchenAid attachment you DON'T need

I have had the **KitchenAid RVSA Slicer/Shredder Attachment** for my KitchenAid Stand Mixer ever since I first purchased my mixer, over eight years ago. I pulled it out for the very first time this Thanksgiving - and that should tell you just how much of a waste it was for me to buy that particular attachment. I *love* my KitchenAid stand mixer, but the Slicer/Shredder is something that I could have done (and have been doing) without. It was easy enough to attach to the front of my stand mixer, but once I started feeding carrots into it, we quickly realized it was a mistake.   First of all, it took two people to do the job. One person had to feed the carrots into the top and push down the press while the second person had to hold a bowl directly under the end of the slicer or the carrot strips would fly all over the counter and the floor. *I want to be fair to KitchenAid and disclose that we might have had the machine turned on a little high*, but I still would have wanted a bowl either right under the end of the slicer, or a larger bowl.   Second - if you wanted mangled carrots - by all means, use the attachment. However, that was not what I wanted. *Again, I want to make sure I'm not being biased here and add that perhaps slicing carrots was not what this attachment was meant to do *- but it was what I tried and I was not impressed.  **In the interest of fairness:** After the first failed attempt at cutting carrots with it, we discussed what, *if anything*, it would be good for. We finally decided that it could be quite useful for slicing up sweet potato fries. Although we haven't tried it yet for that purpose, we intend to do so.   **Pros:** - It could make cutting potato slices easier  **Cons:** - It's a mess to use - It's a mess to clean up - It's not good for carrots  All in all, I still think it might be faster to chop/slice by hand - and *though I'm not giving up on it yet*, I would recommend you spend your money on other kitchen gadgets before you go for the KitchenAid RVSA Slicer/Shredder Attachment.

Awesome Attachment for Kitchen Aid Mixer

The Slicer Shredder Attachment is great!  I told my husband that I wanted an attachment for each anniversary or christmas until I have them all. Surprisingly he actually listened!  This is my first attachment for the mixer and it's great! I love how easy it is to use and how quickly it gets things done.  The best part about it, I think, is that you don't have to struggle with holding the shredder and aiming for a bowl while feeding in food. The ease fo use is absolutely amazing.  Just put a bowl under it, add food to the shredder, and turn the mixer on.  It couldn't be simpler.  the attachment is easy to add to the stand mixer. And there really isn't any difficulties in swapping out the center cylinder for a different feature. Another nice thing it that you don't have to worry about grating your fingers like you do when using a box or plane grater. I used this to make coleslaw one night that was an after-thought in the middle of dinner. This slicer/shredder attachment is a great tool to have in the kitchen. I am eager to try the other attachemebts that Kitchen Aid makes after using this.

Save your knuckles with this!

I had just received the KitchenAid Mixer the previous Christmas, so my husband stuck with a good thing.  He bought the slicer/shredder attachment.  As attachments go, this one is powerful.  I use it most to shredd carrots for carrot cake or soup and for shredding potatoes.  Also, it's economical and saves space, in that you don't have to have a whole other appliance to store somewhere.  The attachment itself is a bit bulky to store.  But I would still definitely buy this again, as I detest shredding things by hand.  I haven't used the slicing attachment as much- mostly for slicing potatoes.  But it did a fabulous job on those.  I was disappointed with the job the shred attachment did on cheese.  There may be a better way, but my shredded cheese turned into a globby mess. Also, the metal parts are rather difficult to snap out of the outer white part- it helped to grasp it with a handtowel.  The attachment could be easier to clean, but I usually just hand wash mine as soon as I'm finished using it.

Time Saver

I love my Kitchen Aid for its many uses, this being one of them. I absolutely hate grating! Whether its cheese, potatoes, zucchini, etc., I cannot stand holding a grater and attempting to shred something by hand! When I first saw this product, I thought that it was a waist of money, but I was wrong. It is so easy to attach, it takes only seconds. Then you just have to cut up small pices of what you want grated and feed it in. It takes considerably less time than doing it by hand. This attachment comes with four differnt inserts, two graters and two slicers, each with different sizes. The slicer is also amazing and it makes whatever you slice look nice. I have used the slicer for carrots and cucumber for a salad and the slicer made the vegetables look professionally cut! They made my salad look fancier than it was because everything was evenly sliced. This attachment saves time and is a lot safer for your fingers than trying to slice or shred by hand!

I use this for everything.

I love this shredder. It comes with 3 attachments, but I have only used the standard sized grater attachment. I use it for grating cheese in bulk then I freeze it. I also use it for carrots and zucchini and then freeze in measured ziploc bags. I would not recommend using this if you are doing just a small amount. It is inconvenient to get the mixer from the cupboard, plug it in, remove the front cover and screw in the attachment only to shred 1/2 cup of cheese. But if you are shredding a lot, nothing beats this shredder! There is an attachment to cut slices. I would not trust using it because I do not think I could keep consistent pressure on the item and create even slices. I would much rather use a mandolin. Other than that the blades are not dangerously sharp and are easy to handle. Changing blades is a snap. They just slide in and out. You may need to juggle it a bit to take it out. But nothing to difficult. As a child this was my favorite big girl job to do.  If you do not have a dishwasher, rinse and wipe clean directly after using. It is a pain to hand wash otherwise. Many nooks and crannies to get dried food trapped in.
