E6410 - An improvement on the E6400

5

This laptop is pretty much a straight current technology upgrade of the E6400 model from dell. it also does not seem to have the overheating issues that the E6400 had. They must have redesigned the shell of the laptop, to help reduce heat and prevent dust from collecting. This is the newest line of laptops that my work has been using. I ran a side by side test with the E6400, with the exact same harddrives, to test the performance difference. I noticed that overall there was about a 20% performance increase, when running our VMware virtual machines, and our software inside of that. We had gotten the Core i5 model, so the hyperthreading helped keep the VM moving at a good pace, while not slowing down the rest of the laptop functions. The look of the new style is pretty much the same as the 6400. I like that they kept the dual USB/E-Sata port, which has been working great for transferring large amounts of data quickly between laptops. The DDR3 memory was a bit part of the performance boost(after the CPU). Overall this laptop is much more worth the money than the previous 6400 version, both for the performance increase, and for the reliability with the overheating issue being gone now.

EXCELLENT Business Laptop with GREAT DELL Service

5

I have owned this E6410 for a while now. I know how every one complains about Dell service and the horrid call centers. Well, a possible solution to that problem is paying a bit more and buying a business level laptop like the E6410 that comes with Dell Business solutions support as well as a 3 year warranty.  Now, about the laptop. It has met all my expectations. I ran into some initial problems when I replaced the original hard drive (only a 160GB) and threw in a 500GB and re-installed Win 7 X64. There were a couple of reasons for doing this: 1. Dell sent this with X32 OS - silly Dell! 2. 160GB is not enough space at all! 3. Dell has included the usual assortment of bloatware. So, I ended up re-installing a fresh copy of 7 on a new HD. The problem was with the drivers. You must consult Dell support because they have too many variants of the E6410 and only the serial number and a Dell consultant can correctly identify which driver you need. After the HD swap everything has been great. Its portable, doesn't get too hot and I get 6+ hours of use with the optional 9 cell battery. One thing I dislike is the latch opening - which is just clumsy! Other than that it is well built and sturdy. Overall a great laptop with good opportunity to expand. Do NOT buy this if you want to play any real games - has an Intel graphics card that will NOT perform!

This laptop is good

I have owned the dell latitude E6410 laptop for around 6 months. It is a solid product. i5 processor is very fast for normal use. It opens large pdf or microsoft office very quickly. I can open multiple tabs in IE or firefox without feeling it slow down, thanks to the 4G ram too. 4 USB ports are convinient, one of it sharing with eSata. It has the vga port and the new display port. Build-in bluetooth is convinient too. The dvd-wr drive is kind of useless currently. I haven't used it even once. I forgot whether I can opt out it when I configured it. The sound (speaker) is not bad. The battery life is meeting my expectation. It can last 4-5 hours with lowered screen brightness etc. The boot-up time is kind of long, 2-3 mintues I guess. I use hibernate more often now to speed up it. It can be hot (very warn) when using it with the AC adapter. The AC adapter itself will also get hot too. My friend's E6410 got some over-heat/auto-shutdown problem. But I haven't seen any problem. Weight-wise, it is not the most portable type. But acceptable.

I love my Dell Latitude E6410!

Wow. I absolutely love my Dell Latitude E6410. My husband bought this for me as a gift and I cant say enough good things about it! It is fast, lightweight, modern, has lots of storage, and has a great battery life. Of course, alot of these good qualities depends on how much you invest int he computer. Storage capabilities can change from computer to computer, but if you get the right one you will love it! My computer also has a backlit keyboard so I can surf the internet or type up documents in the dark! Mine doesnt have a webcam, but that is an option when you order this computer. I love how light it is and I can carry it around without exerting too much struggle. The battery life is wonderful. This computer can go several hours without needing to be plugged into a power source. Dell also offers lots of coupon promotions so you can get these at a good price if you try! I would recommend this computer to anyone!

Strong laptop

4

My cousin let me borrow this as a semi rental (he owns a computer shop). I have to say that this was a pleasure to use. The Dell Latitude E6410 features an i7 620M proccessor, 2.66ghz. This is pretty much overkill as I do not do anything online that require (not even close) that much processing power. These days, it is ridiculous how fast and powerful processors are. They have greatly exceeded consumer demand. If you are price conscious, then opt for an i3 or an Athlon II processor as these are just fine for the typical tasks. Anyhow, although the i7 is too strong, it is good to have all that power on tap. The E6410 comes with the normal 4gb of memory and it can be expanded to 8gigs max, which is really unnecessary but again, a nice option to have available. The harddrive I have found to be pretty quick, spinning at 7200 rpm and decent in size as well (it is 320gb of space). If you play a lot of games or load a lot of video files to your computer, you may need more space as 320 can be reached quite easily these days.

Nice lid, solid keyboard

The specification of a laptop are easy to compare.  Processors and video cards can be easily compared using benchmarking software on sites such as Tom's Hardware.  RAM is often easily upgradable if you're getting less than the standard 4gbs.   So what really sets apart good laptops from simply ok ones is the fit and finish, and how comfortable it is to use.  From these perspectives Dell has done a really nice job with their Latitude series, and in particular the E6410. I've had this laptop for about 4 months now, and it has been a solid performer.  I work from home so I use this computer all the time, at home and while traveling.  With cheaper laptops I've had to plug in external keyboards, but the E6410 provides a solid typing surface with very little flex in the the keyboards platform.  I chose not to get the LED backlit keyboard although I've read that that is an excellent option.  I particularly like the HD screen option for this computer as it allows to fit a lot more on the screen, side by side windows.  (It's also pretty good for watching HD movies)   The specs of the laptop are ok-great depending on configuration, but what really sets this laptop apart is the feel of it in your hands (aluminum lid, solid keyboard, good trackpad).  I recommend it.

My dear husband purchased this laptop for me while I was on bedrest with our last baby.  Thank God, I was on bedrest only for a short time, while the laptop became one of my favorite gifts I have ever received.  I use it for mainly internet and email.  It is great for paying bills online, ordering gifts online, etc.  It has great preset themes and backgrounds.  It has enough memory and storage for lots of songs and pictures.  My kids like to use the built in CD so they can listen to audio stories, like Narnia and Lemony Snicket.  It is very easy for kids to use and two of our kids can navigate from the home screen to internet explorer and their favorite websites:  PBS kids, etc.  Overall, I have been very happy with it.  The laptop was overheating for a few months, but my husband had purchased a warranty, and was able to get that fixed for me.  The warranty process was quick and efficient.

Good all-purpose machine

The Dell Latitude has proven to be a sturdy, reliable machine.  It is portable, not too heavy, and performs all functions well.  I've had it for two years, and dropped it on the floor on numerous occasions.  It works fine.  Graphics work well and has lots of connectivity features.

Decent mid-level/business laptop.

We switched this spring from buying Lenovo's for about 2 years to Dell.  We previously bought dell models C840's through D630's.  I like the D620's and 630's just fine.  We now get E6410's as our corporate standard. While the E6410 is not terribly heavy I would not describe it as lightweight.  But for it's mid-level performance etc., it shouldn't necessarily be considered a light laptop. So far this model seems to be a little more rugged than prior Dells and significantly so over our Lenovo's.  I can't say among the many that I have in my service area that I've seen where shaking it causes the drive to disconnect and/or BOSD as another reviewer on here has said of it, but perhaps that is a problem to watch for. The battery has been moved to the back from our last standard, D630.  I'm not entirely sure I like that.  Some of our users like and it and some don't.  When we bought the 9 cell batteries before they had a wrist-rest portion that stuck out to the front and I kind of liked that for our users...but I guess it's not a deal-breaker in any way. Our models are coming with 4 Gigs of memory and are also running Windows 7.  (We reimage them to our corporate standard Windows XP still but that will change next year.)  My opinion is that it runs pretty fast, pretty cool and and pretty reliably in that configuration.  However, I should point out that I experimented with an old Dell D600 from 7 years ago or so putting Windows 7 on it and remarkably Windows 7 is so light it runs pretty darn good on there.  It seems to stream video better/more clearly and is generally faster...but with only 512Meg memory if you open more than one IE window, etc. you'll probably bog down and have performance problems (I have with just two IE windows open). All in all I suggest buying this if you get a good deal on it.  We pay a fair contract price (which I can not disclose) but I think you can do better with sales, particularly with the 6510's out...if you can still find a new 6410. Support on Dell's site has always been good too, particularly if you use the enterprise support option and enter your service Tag.  I can almost always find drivers I want etc.
