Have had for 7 years!

I loved this computer. It has always worked so great until recent year. It is starting to really get slow. I probably just need to clean it out. I have had very few problems with this computer. I would always recommend a Dell!

My Dell 4600

5

I have had my dell 4600 for 9 years. The longest i have ever owned one pc. Theonly thing i have done to it was expand the memory. Never one bit of trouble. The only thing that i noticed is the video card is starting to go(after 9 years) Dell really does make a great prouduct. A very low maintnance michine. Still very fast online. Very energy eficiant. Upgraded the monitor last year to a 21 " screen, works better than my newer pc i bought 2 years ago. Cons: Because of when it was built it does not work very well above 22 MB on hi speed. Pros: Does support dial up and fax modem. I would recomend Dell to anyone who is in the marlet for a new p.c. They do stand behind what they sell. I had a minor problem with the unit 2 years ago Dell helped me fix it even though the warenty had long expired. The guy told me "its a Dell and we want to help you get your Dell going" No other company would have don that.

This Dell computer is decent

I bought the Dell Dimension 4600 computer 7 years ago because I needed a computer for college. It go me through college and has lasted me for 7 years, but not without its share of problems. I have had issues with the operating system and have had to reboot the operating system on numerous occasions. This computer is also not the fastest and the world and I hate getting constant error messages from internet explorer. I still own this computer and use it as a secondary computer in my household. You get what you pay for with this computer as it is a very average computer that can be bought a a relatively cheap price tag. If you are looking for quality I would look elsewhere, but if you want a basic computer it might not be a bad option. I recently purchased a macbook this past year and I found that I like it much better than my Dell Dimension 4600. My macbook cost a little more but it is faster, more reliable, and give me far less problems than my Dimension 4600.

Suits my needs

Picked one up second hand a few years ago. Got a model with a 2.6 gig Pentium 4 processor. Also has 4 memory slots, capable of using up to 4 gigs of memory. Right now I've got 3 gigs installed. Fortunately, it came with the original software. It has worked well for me so far. Took advantage of 5 USB ports so far & still have some left over. Enough room for 2 disc drives. I'm told my system cannot handle the latest games. I don't care. My primary interest is in answering emails, surfing the web & storing files. I stream video to the TV with a video card by way of an upgraded AGP card. The upright stance of the computer makes for a smaller footprint. There's room for a floppy, but who uses those anymore? A warning: I got the driver disk for this computer. But the ethernet driver doesn't work! Kind of a bummer, as the ethernet connection was needed to connect to the internet & download the correct driver. I was able to workaround this by borrowing a relative's computer.

Great for Business, Reliable & durable for 6 years & Still Going

4

I bought Dell Dimension 4600 about 6 years ago with Pentium 4 processor at 2.66 GHZ.  It came with 1GB DDR memory and 160GB Hard drive (SATA).  I use this computer for my small office that stays open 24 hours a day.  It also came with a FAX modem that I used for FAX sending and receiving.  The operation system is Windows XP Professional.  It was enough capacity for use in business dated in 2005.   The good part - This computer runs very quiet (the cooling fan is very good), but the OEM hard drive seems to make quite a noise sometimes.  The overall boot up is very fast.  The system is very stable, software crushes sometimes, but never big issues. The upgrade part - after 4 years of day and night running, the hard drive started to show sporadic bad sectors from time to time.  So I decided to upgrade to 500 GB Hard drive in 2009 with the OEM Windows operating system that came with the purchase.  It was straight forward and I updated all the device software with it.  I also added 2 GB DDR  sticks to boost my memory.  The Durable Part - It has been two years after my last upgrade and the system is still very stable considering I am running 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. My next upgrade would be upgrading to a Windows 7 operating system. For a computer that lasts for 6 years so far is definitely a durable one.  My laptop computer don't even come close.

I am personally not a fan of Dell computers. THis is my husbands computer that he loves.. --->??? who know's why I have always been an hp fan. This **Dell Dimension 4600 PC desktop computer is a very slow computer and it get's a lot of virus, it is constantly having errors and running slow. It is soo irrating. Also you are not able to do much with this computer. I am a graphic designer and use editing programs, and they will not work with computer. which makes it really difficult to get stuff done. I think that Dells are over priced for what you get and they have HORRIBLE customre service. THe only think I like abou this computer is the small moniter. That makes it easy to fit on a desk with out taking up soo much room. I also wish that the dell had more usb drives. This one only has for, and with todays technoligy your need them..especially  when you have opitial stuff. Anyhow this is an outdated piece of junk**

gREAT SUPPORT!

4

I had a four year waranty. I live in a rural area but have recieved new additions and replacement parts quickly and with ease. The online technical support and service is good but iis sometimes hard to understand becuase they are in india. I've a mother board replaced within one day. Shipped overnight an and a tecnition replaced it that day. Even wen out of parts warrenty support was good on then phone, and fixed my dvr cd combo unit which I had also purchased seperately from Dell. It is quick enough for me. A 2.79 GHZ Pentium 4. I did add one thousand mega hertz of ram for better performance with the movie maker program. I've used dial up, cable, and dsl internet access , so far The Dsl is the easist with the least amount of problems ATT. Mediacom was the cable and the squirrels were contantly eating through the cable until they started using armered cable! All in all I am very pleased with my purchase over the years.

The 4600 was a very good entry level machine in it's time

3

When the first 4600 came out, it was a very good machine for it's time. It would still be a good machine for the beginner to intermediate user, dependending on the use intended. Easily upgradable in re: to hard drive size, memory, DVD/R/RW, Video card, etc. I bought mine shortly after they came out, off of the Dell Refurbished website stripped down to bare minium accessories, for a very good price, added the things I needed from online stores, and have been using it in tandem with my other machines for years with little to no problems

A Dell dimension 4600 desktop computer is a "best buy."

5

I knew next to nothing about computers when I bought my first computer in 2004, a** Dell dimension 4600 desktop.** It works now, 5 yrs and several hardware and software upgrades later as good as new. I am very pleased with its features, its ease of use and  overall cost. I would definitely recommend it.

Dell computers are number one and they stand behind there name.

5

Dell computers are by far the best to me.This is my second computer, but my first Dell.In the five years I have owned  it,I have had only one problem.I called there 800 number and the next day somone was at my home to repair the problem in minutes. It actually took the serviceman longer to drive to my home than he was there to fix the problem. My first computer a well known brand gave me problems the first year and lasted only 2 years with constant problems. My sister owned a Dell and recommended it,saying they were idoit proof, and she was right. When the time comes for me to buy another computer it will definetly be another Dell.I own rental property and need my computer for forms and doing credit checks, plus work a full time job,so I need a computer that will stand behind it's name and that to me is Dell.Every time I set in front of my Dell it has never let me down,I have more problems with my server. It's a fast and easy hook up when you first get it.Even if you have never hooked up a computer you can hook up a Dell, and the rest is self explanatory when you turn your Dell on for the first time.keep up the great work Dell
