Just Buy a Dehumidifier

3

The closet in our master bedroom started growing mold, yuck. I think it was because we live in Florida and there is a lot of humidity, and we try not to run our air conditioning too much except in the summer, since it is costly. So, my husband and I went to the store to see what we could find to solve our problem - that is when we discovered DampRid. We purchased the starter kit and some refills. It is supposed to absorb humidity in the air, thereby controlling mold. We set it up right away. However, we quickly realized that this is just a disposable solution to a problem, and I am not a fan of disposable items. I do not want to pay for the replacements, and I do not want to create more waste. We do not use paper napkins, paper plates, plastic silverware, etc. We then stopped using this system and just installed a dehumidifier. This will be in use somewhat indefinitely, until it breaks, with no constant replacement of something disposable. I would not recommend this product.

Works really well

I first bought a Damp Rid product a few summers ago when my husband accidentally left his car windows open during a summer storm. Soaking wet carpets and leather were horrible and he was horrible about leaving his windows open to air out and dry when it was warm and sunny and then remembering to close them when the afternoon storms blew in. I hung a Damp Rid in his car, rolled up the windows and the next morning the little collection bag was full of water. I put another bag in the next day and couldn't believe how well it worked. I immediately went out and bought one to keep in our small damp bathroom and another for the laundry room. When I can walk into a room that I have walked into dozens of times a day for years and be amazed at how much less humid and damp the air is I know that the little Damp Rid Moisture Absorbers are doing their jobs. Performance I was really surprised at how much moisture this stuff absorbs. Scent At first there was a slight smell but I really didn't notice it after the first few hours.

DAMP RID Moisture And humidity Saved my Bathroom From Mildew

This product is excellent. I've been using this for about 2 years, and it works great. I will continue to use this. Performance I noticed a big different with this absorber. Soaks up all the bad stuff. Leaves the area mold free. Great for any part of your home. Scent It just takes away the odor in the air.

Does an okay job

I recommend this for small spaces that are humid, but that don't have valuable clothing or furniture located very close to the absorber. Items can absorb the liquid out of this tub and get ruined. I learned this the hard way. But other than that I think it's a pretty decent purchase. I use it in our main bathroom. Even though we have a window in our bathroom and keep it cracked, every thing in the bathroom stays wet, musty, and our bathroom always smells dirty, even though I clean it daily. The moisture always causes the bathtub caulking to mildew also. it is such a pain. So I place a Damp Rid Moisture and Humidity Absorber in the bathroom, out of reach from my little children, and let it do its job. It does reduce the humidity by a small margin because I have used a hygrometer to make sure I wasn't wasting my money buying these. Performance For the price and the size of this product it is pretty effective at reducing moisture in the air. Scent It doesn't freshen a room or leave a pleasant smell, it only removes unpleasant odors, which it is pretty effective at doing.

Didn't really notice a difference in moisture

I bought this because my vanity and closet area often gets humid and can accumulate moisture due to its location within my apartment. I bought this Damp RID absorber in hopes that it would help reduce the moisture. I was primarily attracted to the Damp RID because of the price and other good reviews. However I do not feel it lived up to my expectations and I saw no difference. When I opened this product there wasn't really a smell which I appreciated. It was also extremely easy to set up. I liked the concept that I could just dump off the bottom and refill the container which was both convenient and affordable. However, unfortunately I did not see an improvement in my moisture and humidity problems. The crystals did begin to dissolve and water accumulated at the bottom, but I still saw no improvement. I mean nothing got worse but nothing changed so I'm assuming this product is just ineffective. I even tried setting up multiple Damp RID's but it still didn't make a difference. I was disappointed and would not recommend this product.

keeps your house dry

My house tends to be very damp and humid in the summertime - I rely on DampRid products to keep my house smelling fresh and dry and keeping my closets and the contents smelling fresh also . I swear by the DampRid products that are designed specifically to hang in closets -another poster said there was a previous DampRid product that is now discontinued that was a flat disk and was superior to the hanging bag type DampRid clost bag.I have never seen or used that particular one ,but I can tell you that the closet bags do work well for me . The damp rid contents are on the top of the bag and as moisture collects , the water is deposited into the bottom half of the bag which is sealed off from the top portion . It does get rather heavy when almost full so I hang the bag , when new , right on the heavy duty closet bar , facing front . I really like the nice clean scent the bag brings to the clothing instead of the slighly damp, humid smell some of my clothes had before I found DampRid . I have louvered closet doors and the scent escapes into the room and makes the whole room smell fresh. I leave DampRid around other areas of the house too - in the cellar hall , under the kitchen sink and any area where dampness tends to be a problem in hot , humid summer months . There is also a product designed especially to go over the toilet bowl if your toilet "sweats" but I have never needed that one . There are coupons around every summer and a discount store near me sells them Buy 1,Get 1 a lot of the time so I stock up during those periods . I have a few extras on hand right now . Typically , a container lasts 30-60 days depending on the humidity level . ] There are generic brands out there , but Damp Rid is superior for not much more money .

This did nothing in my son's room!!!

1

Our basement apartment is always very humid, and we have a huge problem with mildew when we don't use a dehumidifier.  Because it is expensive to run a dehumidifer 24/7, I was thrilled to see an infomercial for Damp Rid one night, so I went to our local hardware store to buy it.  Since my four-year-old son's room is the most important to keep mildew-free, I bought three refillable Damp Rid containers.  When I got home, I set up all three in his room.  I eagerly checked the containers each day to see if the gravel had dissolved.  At the same time, I tracked the humidity level in his room, using a Hygrometer.  After 3-4 days, all three Damp Rid containers had dissolved into liquid, but the humidity in his room hadn't dropped at all!  I was and still am incredibly disappointed that Damp Rid didn't work as promised.  I used more containers than recommended, yet they still didn't work for us.  I am back to using the electric dehumidifer...I don't recommend Damp Rid at all!

Damp Rid Bags sag; they discontinued better product.

Damp Rid used to make a flat disk with a light-smelling product on both sides of the cardboard.  The product absorbed moisture and could be hung by the pre-cut hole, or leanned against a basement wall, or hooked over a hanger for the back of a closet.  These were great little de-humidifiers!  Unfortunately, the Florida company discontinued these!!  The company decided to keep making the "product with a bag".  As moisture collects through the product, it drops into a bag which of course gets heavier and heavier as water collects.  The bag takes on a partly sticky feel when it gets full.  It's harder to hang just anywhere...because the bag needs room to expand and because it gets heavy.  It bends a thin wire hanger (the discontinued product never did).   Damp Rid as a product is great=5 But because they discontinued their best product=2 They won't listen to customers who want the old product back! = 2 Average=2.5, just an average company who won't hear customers' needs and wants   Note: The company was bought out by a new company in 2008 or 2009.  The old company made the decision about Damp Rid Disks.
