Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel Toothpaste cleans teeth.

When it comes to toothpaste I always like buying Colgate products, so it was only natural that our household would try, Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel Toothpaste. I always feel that Colgate goes the extra mile to whiten teeth. I picked up this toothpaste, after register coupon, for 99 cents, and it is a 4.0 ounce (113g) size. I noticed that it says, 'Freshens breath for 12 hours', which sounded great. When opening up the tube, the first thing I noticed was the green gel, and then the minty smell. Upon putting it on the brush, and cleaning my teeth, I felt that they were clean, and fresh. The minty taste was refreshing. However, the claim of 12 hour fresh breath didn't work for me. I can't go that long without a cup of coffee, or food. I passed it over to Len, and he finished the tube. When I kissed him after brushing his teeth, the smell was really fresh, but a couple of hours later, it was gone. I feel that Colgate works hard with their toothpastes to prevent cavities, plaque buildup, and gingivitis, but I don't agree that any toothpaste can give prolonged freshness.

Doesn't freshen breath for 2 hours, much less 12, as it claims!

I have very sensitive teeth and I normally use toothpastes that are made to help desensitize them. However, I am a "product junkie" and I enjoy trying new or different products when the opportunity presents itself. My husband bought a tube of **Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel** after seeing an advertisement on television for the product. The commercial claimed that the toothpaste would not only provide fluoride protection for your teeth but that it would also whiten them and freshen your breath for 12 hours! Wow, right? Sounds hard to believe, doesn't it? That's because as far as my husband and I are concerned, it isn't believable at all. It doesn't freshen our breath for 12 hours. It doesn't freshen our breath any longer than any other mint toothpaste on the market. **Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel** does have a nice mint taste that leaves my mouth feeling clean and fresh for 30 minutes or so after brushing, as do so many other toothpastes. It also protects against cavities and gingivitis with the fluoride it contains. I'll even go so far as to say that it helps whiten teeth by removing surface coffee and tea stains. Those are all great attributes, but this toothpaste specifically claims that it *"helps keep breath ultra-fresh for up to 12 hours."* That's where they get you...with their "FOR UP TO 12 HOURS." Yeah, for up to 12 hours, or for up to 12 minutes. It's misleading and I don't appreciate being mislead! There is nothing wrong with **Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel** as a normal, fluoride toothpaste. If you buy it expecting that it will keep your mouth and breath minty fresh for 12 hours, you're going to be disappointed because it simply isn't going to happen. As far as recommending or not recommending this toothpaste...I can't really decide. I won't buy it again because I don't appreciate being mislead. If you don't mind the fact that this product doesn't perform exactly as it claims, but it is a good toothpaste in every other aspect, then you'll probably like it just fine. You have my opinion about this product, now the decision to try it or not is up to you.

Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel - not so fresh at all!

I usually use Colgate Total Advanced Whitening toothpaste, which I love. I decided to try this Advanced Fresh Gel version, as it claims that it "freshens breath for 12 hours." After using it for a couple of weeks, I'm not convinced that it does so. Advanced Fresh Gel claims to do all the other things that Total typically does - helps prevent cavities, gingivitis and plaque, as well as gently remove surface stains with an advanced whitening ingredient. I'll let my dentist be the best judge of that part. When I brush with the Fresh Gel, I do get that initial minty fresh feeling. However, it dissipates fairly soon, and I have not noticed any significant improvement in the long-term freshness of my breath, even after 2 hours, let alone 12 hours as claimed. Come to think of it, why would you need a 12 hour breath freshener, as you probably will eat again or brush again before 12 hours are up? Even when I brush right before bed and check my breath again 7 or so hours later when I wake up, it's not any fresher than if I were using any other toothpaste. The other thing I really do not like is the mouthfeel of the gel itself. I have used other gels successfully in the past, but this one seems to coat my tongue and roof of my mouth in a rather unpleasant way as soon as I start brushing, which makes me want to finish more quickly than normal so I can rinse it away. I'll go back to my regular Colgate Total Advanced Whitening Toothpaste as soon as this tube is done.

fresh and clean

I really like Colgate Total products. I did not like using the other brands in the past because my breath would not stay fresh enough. I seem to have longer lasting fresh breath and clean feeling in my mouth with Colgate Total. It lasts for a while. Also, i like that it cleans my teeth well. I also floss, but using Colgate Total seems to help with finishing cleaning my teeth after flossing. I feel it kills the germs and removes plaque pretty well as I do not have many problems at the dentist's office visits. The flavor of the toothpaste isn't too bad at all. I like the minty fresh taste. It is nice that the flavor lingers in my mouth for hours after brushing. I like the gel kind, but that is just what I am used to using. I like to use coupons when shopping, so I usually can find a coupon for Colgate Total toothpaste. That is one nice thing about this product is that they usually have plenty of coupons to use for money off their products which make them very affordable.

Good toothpaste

Colgate Total Advanced Fresh Gel is a good, average toothpaste that cleans your teeth and makes your breath smell good.  It definitely does the first four things that the box promises: helps prevent cavities, prevents gingivitis, prevents plaque build-up, and fights tartar build-up (actually I'm just assuming that it does these basic things).  The last claim is that it "whitens teeth by gently removing surface stains," and I'm not really sure that I buy that one.  I've been using this toothpaste for a while (I got a great deal where it was practically free after coupons at Harris Teeter) and I haven't noticed any improvement in the color of my teeth as opposed to any other brand of toothpaste that I have tried.  Overall, I think that the toothpaste works just fine but I do not prefer it over any other brand.  If you are just looking for good toothpaste that you can buy for a good price, I would recommend this one.
