Brigham Young University - Distance Learning and Paper/Online Classes

Highly accredited higher education, yet highly aggravating.

BYU is a highly accredited university, offering high school courses for distance learning, where the courses are paper or online oriented. I have taken many of these courses, and found each and every one to be incredibly unique. I have found, that much like a classroom, most everything depends on what teacher you have for a given course. This tends to detract from the courses however, in this case, as the courses often include as much or more opinion as fact. This isn't quite as common in the more precise lessons such as Mathematics (any of them) or the sciences, but it's not kept from them either. I have found, that in many instances, the religion behind BYU is inferred and intertwined in their academic courses. Not being interested or a fan of any religion, it's hard to ignore the fact that this is so. It distracts from the course material, and at times can be quite frustrating to sort out the factual course material from the opinion, and often, mindless banter, of the teacher behind the work. I don't believe that 3 pages on your first 'Mission' to Mexico is pertinent to the stories of Ulysses in any way, and I think they need to have been left out! Overall, you will learn what you need to learn, but it will be an aggravating journey if you cannot get by or ignore all of the opinionated materials and publications behind the lessons.
