Baby Kangas were one of our favorite diapers!

3

Baby Kangas were one of our favorite diapers. At one point during my son's cloth diapering "career", we had almost no other types except for Baby Kangas because we loved them so much! It is really useful that they are one-sized diapers, so we were able to use them for a very long span of time. I love that they are pocket diapers because we could customize the absorbency to suit our son and the situation we were going to be in (such as road trips, overnights, etc. or just regular daytime/around the house situations). The only problem I really had with them is that the zippers have a tendency to break easily, even when they are fairly new diapers. Not the teeth of the zipper, but the zipper pull itself. It breaks OFF the zipper track. I usually just used a safety pin to deal with it but it made it a bit of a pain. Other than the zipper though, we had NO problems with our Baby Kangas! We used them from about 10 months old until around 2.5 months old and they held up phenomenally! The elastic never got worn out, the snaps always worked perfectly, and save for typical pilling of the fleece inner and the occasional busted zipper, we never had an issue at all. I also loved that they came in such nice colors - at that time, one of the only brands that came in black! (Orca) Would definitely recommend them!

I bought two of these diapers from another mama and I LOVE them, they are two of my favorite diapers and are often my go-to diaper for when we are out and about because they are trim and cute. I have never had any wicking or leak issues with these diapers, and they wash up very well and the inners sun out very nicely. The lack of a hip snap on these diapers is my only complaint, as I know I could get a little bit of a better fit if they had them. I love the front zipper pocket for the insert as it makes it very easy for me to check how wet the insert is without taking the diaper off, but you do have to be very careful when you zip it back up to make sure that the inside PUL flap is down or you will get wicking though the zipper. The zipper pocket is also very wide so it is easy to stuff with any size insert, depending on what you need at the moment. I would not reccomend these as an overnight diaper, but they make a wonderful addition to my daytime stash and I would recommend these to other moms!

very narrow fitting diaper

I tried many different cloth diaper brands when cloth diapering my 2 children.  I loved pocket diapers as they dry faster than all in one diapers but are still convenient and easy for my husband to use.  I love the HUGE pocket opening that the Baby Kanga diapers have and it is so easy to shake the insert out but I found that they are extremely narrow fitting between the legs.  They were too narrow for my babies and ended up leaking.  It is also hard to find other brands of inserts that fit in them because they are so narrow in the middle.  I suppose they are easier for new walkers to move around in with less bulk between the legs but I found that they just did not have enough coverage.  It is also hard to find a diaper that has such a nice opening (I like the zipper feature as long as you remember to un-zip it so your insert can get fully clean).  The color selection is also great and they are really bright colors!

Wouldn't bother again

I wanted to love these.  The design seemed clever (zipper on the front, so you can remove inserts without getting near poop), the PUL (waterproof fabric they're made of) is very sturdy and durable, they're adjustable, they use snaps, they're Canadian-made (like me!), and the manufaccturer seems responsive, but they were ultimately disappointing.  The front zipper tends to wick moisture, so you couldn't use them overnight, and the one row of snaps doesn't fit a baby as well as two rows would.  These always left a gap by my son's legs.  The diapers don't come with an insert, which is easy enough to get separately, but it does add to the cost, and these diapers are harder to source then many others.  The manufacturer does get points for addressing the wicking issue with nylon zipper in newer versions, but I don't think I'd buy these again.  We used a waterproofing spray on ours, which helped a bit, but it's just another thing to worry about when you're already busy with a baby.

Not for us

I was so excited about these diapers when I first heard of them, They are made in Canada, which I LOVE. The quality of the PUL is great! its very durable. I like the look of these diapers a lot,They seem to fit ok, I have had wicking at the zipper, and i had huge repelling issues, in the beginning (bought them new) which was eventually solved with more washes. The thing i really dislike about them, is the inserts they recommend with them, I was new to cloth when i first bought these, infact they were my first purchase ever. the hemp inserts they recommend with them are extremely stiff and when line dried even stiffer, they dont fit in the diaper properly, they are too long for the rise settings, which really put me off. even though they are adjustable inserts they still did not work properly, when I pu these on my daughter everything about the diaper was so stiff. because of the inserts and the thick PUL, it made for one uncomfortable looking diaper. these are not for us

I had heard of these before and was intrigued. I can rarely buy anything new so set off to find  good price used. I came across a good price one day and bought one! Well it came. I did like the zipper and  how the opening for the pocket isn't covered by fabric like in some types. The insert just goes in and the zipper gets zipped and you put on the baby. IThey can be hard to get in the insrts if you have two sizes together than want the smaller one to be up front though since you are stuffing from the front. They have a smaller elastic and casing for the elastic than a lot of other brands and thicker PUL. This bughed one of my kids because of how they felt. the other one, these diapers fit better because of it.   The inner fabric dstays nice a lot longer than a lot of other brands. Bought used and used by my kids for a year and it is still very soft. The fabric hasn't ripped and the zipper still works as when we first got it, barely used. Very nice construction and materials!

Baby Kangas are definitely not my pick in cloth diapers

I do not like the fit of the Baby Kangas one size pouch diaper at all.  It bunches in the back and leaks very easily.  I had heard that these were a great fit for slim and tall kids, but it just wasn't true for my daughter.  It was recommended to use a hemp stuffer with this diaper because it did not come with it's own insert.  So, I got a hemp sutffer and don't like it either!  It is my least favorite insert I have as well.  It is very prone to leaking and doesn't last hardly as long as my other inserts.  I did like the zippered pouch for the insert on this diaper.  I just liked that it was a bit separated and that you never saw the insert until you unzipped the pouch.  I gave this diaper two stars because I do still use it.. it's in my pile of diapers.  But, I usually save this one for the last diaper before I wash them and definitely save it for when we are at home since it does leak easily.
