VS2621 - Outstanding for its price

4

I'm not a HiFi fanboy, but I can't stand the poor speaker of my laptop either. So I was in the market hunting for some cheap but solid PC speaker. Altec Lansing has lower prices than Logitech, and I know clearly that for plastic speaker at this price range, it's not worth extra bucks for a little more fancy and well-branded product. So I bought a set of VS2621 on Black Friday. It's not at the bottom of Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker line though. Basically it's worth the money. Relatively good sound quality, powerful subwoofer, small but nice satellite units. Pros: Cheap. Almost cheapest 2.1 speaker in the market. You can fine some cheaper one, but the brand might never be heard of. Good sound quality. You get what you pay for. So don't expect some HiFi or home theater level sound from it, but it surely beats built-in speakers (my laptop and LCD TV). Small size. Satellite units are around the size of a mark cup, and subwoofer smaller than an shoe box. But it has pretty nice output power. Enough for your shelf or small living room. I'm currently connecting it to my LCD TV, surely an upgrade to built-in speaker. Cons: Just so so build quality. The satellite units looks like cheap device. And the subwoofer cover feels like paper. Bad design of power switch. It's on the subwoofer, not satellite speaker (like Logitch z523), so very inconvenient if placed on the ground.

Good sound but finish starting to chip

I've lugged these to and from several places, most recently lending them to a friend for his housewarming party, and all throughout they have done well. The subwoofer is powerful and the speakers are decent for the money. Unfortunately the finish is starting to flake off on the corners after too much banging around, so be careful with these. On another note, I have these speakers on the floor thanks to no room up above on my computer desk. So I use the subwoofer as a footrest, basically. The speakers are powerful and clear enough that I get awa with keeping them down there--I can still understand what people say during movies, etc. The speakers are kind of sharp-cornered, though, so woe unto him who puts his feet on the speakers rather than the subwoofer... which I've done before. Ouch. Note that the adapter is not a block one like the cheapies, but is actually just a plug. Very nice and convenient of Altec to do that. What isn't so nice is that the right side speaker is connected to everything--no unplugging. It saves the cost of plugs, but it makes it harder to move things around. You only get so many feet of wire inbetween the speakers.

Brought this way back during a time it was on sale. The sound quality is pretty good, the bass is nothing mind blowing but it does it's work really well. Been using it for about 2 years and having no problems at all. Some problems about it is though is that the only on/off switch is at the very back of the sub woofer, which can get annoying if you like to turn off your speakers. I ended up just leaving them on most of the time, which may annoy some people as the orange light at the front of the speakers stay on. I am not really a sound person, but overall these speakers do the job I wanted them to, they sound nice and crisp and can offer the bass when it is needed. The speaker has two knobs, one to change the volume and one to change the tone. The tone knob is pretty nice but somewhat limited. For the price they were at I have to say these are great speakers that look pretty nice. Much better than some other speakers I had that were around the same price range. There is also a AUX port if you want to plug in your mp3 players/iphones/ etc. which has limited uses if the speaker is already plugged into the computer but nice.

Low price, but shows why

I actually bought this 1 year ago on Black Friday at staples for a very low price.  I didn't need a new set of speakers very badly, but I thought it was a good buy. Looking back, it was only decent.  The price for this 2.1 system is deserving though, because there are a few drawbacks. First, the auxiliary audio input jack is dead, so I cannot plug earphones or anything through the speakers to get sound from my computer.  This is annoying because it is very convenient to be able to do that. Second, the bass is lacking from the subwoofer, it is not very deep.  The speakers themselves are fairly good, but not super powerful or anything like that.  They provide a decent amount of sound and are of average quality.   The good thing about this set is the compactness of the subwoofer, while it may not be very powerful, its certainly tiny.  I can fit it underneath my desk with no problem and this saves me some space.

Good Sound System

I bought the Altec Lansing VS2621 Speakers to better amplify the sound from my computer when I played videos at home. It worked well, at an affordable price. I am not a sound-system expert, but if you need to amplify sound without obvious distortion, this product is for you. I recommend this to anyone!
