The #1 card I use is Chase Freedom Visa. It always gives 1% back on all purchases + an extra 2% bonus back (for a total of 3%) on the first $600 in top 3 spend categories each month. When you accumulate $200 in rewards you get a $250 reward check, which is effectively like getting another 25% premium on your cashback rebates. I use the Chase card for cell phone, groceries and home improvement which are always my top 3 categories that earn the 3%. Then for gas and office supplies I always use Discover to get 5% back. I track everything in Excel so I always know where my maximum rebate opportunities are and don't overspend past the rebate level. And I always pay in full each month, the day you let a balance roll over to the next month is when you can effectively say goodbye to all your hard-earned rebates due to interest charges. I only use cards for everyday purchases that I would eventually buy or pay anyway, I never spend money on a card just to get the rebate. And yes, I'm a sucker for pinching the almighty dollar. Banks don't make much money from me, which is just the way I like it!
