I needed a barstool for my kitchen counter that can be tucked away when I don't need it. Due to illness, I'm not able to stand for very long, and I need the ability to plop down quickly in the kitchen. I wanted something completely utilitarian for the purpose, and the Franklin bar stool fit the bill.
How I love my IKEA Franklin Bar Stool: Let me count the ways:
1. Affordable. As with other IKEA offerings, the Franklin bar stool is affordable ($24.99 for the 29" version/$19.99 for 25").
2. Options! The bar stool not only comes in the two sizes noted above, but also in your choice of birch, oak, or white back and seats with a silver frame.
3. Comfort and Construction. The bar stool features a backrest, slightly contoured seat, and sturdy frame. No wobbling with the Franklin. It doesn't move or fold down while you're still seated, but it does fold completely flat to tuck away when not in use.
4. Easy Assembly. Just a couple of parts. Even a child could do it.
Even though I'm happy with my IKEA bar stool, there are a few things about the Franklin that annoy me:
1. When it's time to fold the stool, it's a clunky affair. I'm short on strength, so that may account for it feeling a bit unwieldy to me. Your mileage may vary.
2. There are four plastic feet on each of the legs to save your floors from scratch marks. That's a definite plus, but my problem is that one of the feet refuses to remain attached. Every time I unfold the Franklin I somehow dislodge the foot. Luckily, it goes back on easily enough.
Even though it's not perfect, I love my IKEA Franklin Bar Stool. It looks nice, it's comfortable and sturdy, and it was a great price.
