Cricut Review Summary

According to bargain hunters, the Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter is “a scrapbooking essential”. Reviewers say that the cricut can “cut out frames, shapes, letters and just about anything else that your heart desires.” Sound complicated? Reviewers say that the Cricut is easy to use and puts the fun back in scrapbooking. Several Cricut cartridges are available, which Viewpoints members say makes the Cricut very versatile. Oh, and at just 7 pounds the Cricut is very portable.

Cricut Machine

The Cricut Machine is a convenient, easy way to cut letters, words or pictures for scrapbooking, or other crafts.
Before I get into my review, you should know that there are two different types of Cricut Machines available to purchase; Cricut Create (smaller) and Cricut Expression (larger)....

Unless you are into big time scrapbooking this machine is too expensive.  it works well but costs too much.  The mats don't last long enough.  Mine didn't work for more than a few cuts.  I use it for greeting cards and not scrapbooking.  To be a good investment you'd need to use it more than I do...

I used to dread pulling out my huge boxes of pictures, but now that I got this Cricut machine I look forward to scrapbooking.  The hardest part of scrapbooking for me was trying to figure out how I can make each page a little unique or special. This task becomes extremely easy with the Cricut machine.

You can have the machine cut out frames, shapes, letters, and just about anything else that your heart desires.  I do have to caution all the ladie out there though.  You WILL get sucked into buying quite a few extra cartridges just because you have to have the Disney themes, or you have to have...

If I were on a desert island and could only have one scrapbooking tool, the Cricut personal electronic cutter from ProvoCraft (or its big brother the Expression) would be what I would take.

Since getting my Cricut and Expression I haven't bought any scrapbooking embellishments except paper. The Cricut allows me to cut titles, embellishments, cards, boxes, and more in sizes ranging from 1 to 5.5 inches to use on my scrapbooking layouts, cards, or other projects. Because the machine only weighs 7 pounds it is portable and can be taken to crops and scrapbooking retreats.

If purchased through an...

The cricut is a great machine, and I don't scrapbook.  I use it to make things for the preschool I work at.  I can't wait for the arrival of my new expression machine so I can make bigger and better things. A hint to make the mats last longer is to clean them when finished and to use temporary adhesive spray used for machine embroidery to keep them sticky. I would like them to come out with a Halloween cartridge though.  Just a heads up.....I ordered mine from cricutoutlet.com and I have waited nearly a month and have not received it yet.  Had to write several times ( and was ignored) and... review »

Yeah-its expensive. But as a woman who gets mad when thrift stores charge to much, its so worth it. I bought mine from a very popular auction website and saved about 150 bucks, so I will admit I don't have as much as invested in it as others.  It is a pricey toy-but I am a teacher and I get my money out of it.  It made me love scrap booking and the cartridges are going on my wish list for xmas next year.  The lil adhesive pads loose their stick pretty quick, but I cheat and use either a spray or a repositional tape to "refresh" instead of replace.

I've owned the Cricut machine for about a year now.  I bought it at a sale price, which was great!  Aside from the high price point of both the machine and the software products, I think this is a great buy.  I use it all the time for my scrapbooking / card making projects.  And I've just recently discovered that they have colored inks that you can use in place of the cutting tool to have the machine draw the shapes / letters instead of cutting them out!  That has made this already wonderful product even more desirable.  I do wish they offered more software programs.  I'm really interested... review »

I got my Cricut for Christmas in 2007. I have to admit I didn't use it all that much at first. Then Provocraft came out with a TON of exciting, new cartridges. I bought some and now I'm HOOKED!

My favorite cartridge is Storybook. I has everything from princess crowns to birds- even an owl. And it has a TON of swirls and flourishes to fit everynook and cranny of your scrapbook pages, handmade cards, posters, and decor. AND it also comes with a complete font that is to-die-for! I can't wait to buy some vinyl and make some shapes/phrases for my walls. I live in an apartment so I'm thrilled at the...

I received the Cricut last year for Christmas. I am an avid scrap-booker, and really wanted this but the price was pretty steep for something that i just wanted and didnt actually need. They run around $300 for the machine and it comes with one basic cartaridge that includes mostly letters and words. I was excited to get this item and tried it out right away! I love how it cuts in different sizes that you select and is fairly simple to use. I had it working right out of the box in less then 10 minutes.

To use the Cricut you attach a piece of paper or card stock to an adhesive board and click the...

Cricut Expression bought from Authorized Dealer, arrived broken. Dealer said "contact Cricut".  Waited 15 minutes for rep. Followed directions and waited 30 min as told. Machine still could 'not find cartridge'.

Called again and waited again. Misty said, yes, machine broken, email proof of purchase to me, I'll call when I receive it.  Two weeks - no call - no response.  I sit with over $400 machine and cartridges that do nothing.

With what I am sure is a great machine. But Customer Service is either way understaffed or the machine is so unreliable they are swamped with defective/broken...

I own the original cricut and 6 fonts including the disney.  It is a wonderful product.  It has occastional very minor glitches every once in a while just like any computer but it is very easy to fix them by just shutting it off and turning it back on.  It is quick, doesn't take a lot of space and easy to use.  The replacement pieces are not incredibly expensive like the cutting blade and the cutting mat.  I have owned this for one year and still have yet to replace the blade and have only replaced the cutting mat one time.  They lose their stickiness after much use.  The little booklets... review »

The Provocraft Cricut is the answer for the crafter who wants top quality personalized die cuts that they can cut in their own home.  The Cricut offers more versatility for the crafter than ever available before.  The Cricut can cut many sizes and offers lots of options.  The cartridges are expensive, but contain lots of images.  The ability now with the Cricut Design Studio allows the crafter to design from multiple cartridges on the computer screen and, by clicking a button, tells the Cricut what to cut.  The images can even be welded together.  This machine is so much fun and opens up... review »

I have done many cutouts for my grandaughters class. I would never give this machine up. Started out with the small cricut. Once the big one came out I went  and brought that one. I now have 8 cartridges. What a great time i have with this product. Awesome!

The Cricut create has really changed the way that I scrapbook. It's amazing! I save so much money by not having to purchase letter stickers and I love being able to make custom designs for my pages. The initial investment might seem like a lot for some, but it really isn't when you do the math.

I really held off for a long time before I purchased this machine. I didn't think I would ever use it, but not I can't imagine scrapping without it. If you are on the fence about this machine, I would say Go for it! You will get addicted within the first few hours of using it.

Cartridges are pricey, but...

I bought the original Cricut (or "baby bug" as it is sometimes referred to) in the summer of 2006 and it has been such a time saver. The price of it was pretty expensive, but it has already paid for itself. Before I bought the Cricut, to make titles for my scrapbooks I would print letters out individually on card stock, cut them out with an Xacto knife and then use them as a stencil to trace letters on paper and then cut those letters out to put on my scrapbook pages. It took forever!! Now with the Cricut I can cut letters and shapes out in no time flat. The Cricut machine comes with the cartridge... review »
