Very good at taking wide angle shots. On a crop sensor it gives you the equivalent of 16 to 35 mm. This is a very good lens for taking landscapes pictures. The quality of the images is very good especially when you're using at F8 or F11. I would highly recommend this land to anybody who enjoys taking photos outside and does not want to carry a really heavy lens. Another advantage of this lens is that it is very light because it is light you can take it more places. One thing to be aware of, is that you must use a ultra Slim filter with lens. If you do not use a really thin land filled or are then you may experience some darkening of the edges of your images. The popular filter to use is a circular polarizing filter keys can be quite expensive if you get them. Note that this lens is not an L lens, even though it has L lens image quality. I have heard reports from lens rental services have a lot of problems with the durability of this lens.

This is one lens that never leaves my camera bag, ever. I shoot on a crop body, which can diminish the ability of a number of EF lenses to shoot wide scenes. To compensate for the 1.6X crop factor, I picked up one of these to cover my wide angle needs. It is the equivalent of a 16-35mm field of view using a crop camera. It is a nice little lens, despite feeling a little cheap it holds up quite well and always delivers nice shots. I use this lens for landscapes or cityscapes, and have been very happy with it overall. You can stand in front of a high 10 story building and capture the whole thing with this lens...outstanding. While the f/3.5-4.5 isn't a hug aperture, it is typically more than sufficient for my wide angle shots. In addition to landscapes, this lens works very well for tight indoor shots of big groups of people or full body shots. However, I would highly recommend pairing this lens with a nice flash for indoor shots. This is the best option for wide angle shots on the Canon crop digital SLR cameras. The optics on this little guy are as good as an "L" series lens, which is probably why it costs so much.
