Strawberry Shortcake? More like Strawberry Shortfake!
While walking through the convinience store the other day, I came across my good old Pure Protein bars. Amongst my typical favorite flavors, I spotted a new one, Strawberry Shortcake. Excitedly, I purchased Pure Protein's Strawberry Shortcake bar, anticipating a lovely, healthy dessert alternative. In the past, I've enjoyed the Chocolate Delux, Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Peanutbutter Chocolate Chip varieties of Pure Protein's bars, thus, was expecting another pleasant expirience. Before I get down to the nitty-gritty (and this bar has ALOT of nitty-gritty to it!), I must applaud Pure Protein on producing yet another nutritionally sound product. These bars contain more protein per calorie than any other one out there on the market. Also, weighing in at nearly 3 oz., this bar is a pretty hefty size, too. Pure Protein described there bar as "The luscious flavor of fresh picked strawberries in the Pure Protein Strawberry Shortcake high protein bars is so delicious... it's like heaven on earth. Each bar is loaded with 30 grams of high quality protein, packed with vitamins and minerals and has 0 grams trans fat. The Pure Protein Strawberry Shortcake bar is like a little piece of heaven... strawberry heaven." Well, after tasting this bar, I hope that I never have to visit strawberry heaven! The taste is TERRIBLE, purely chemical! Each bite tastes like a combination of aspartame and rubbing alcohol- not a pleasant combination. The only edible part of this bar would be the "real fruit" strawberry filling, which is still very strong and fake tasting. Each Pure Protein bar contains 280 calories, 6 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbohydrates, and 29 grams of protein (apparently the company thought that 29 was close enough to 30...) Even with nutritional stats this great, I doubt I'll be able to stomach another Strawberry Shortcake Pure Protein bar again. It was truly a dissapointment. Luckily, I can rely upon my standby flavors of Pure Protein bars to still get some decent calories into my system. Guess it goes to show you, stick with what you know.
