Apples peeled and cored in one step!

4

I have 4 kids and we go through a lot of apples. Each of my kids have gone through a stage of where they didn't like the skin of the apple which is really annoying but I'd rather do it and have them eat apples! They don't like to eat them whole, they like slices so that means I'm always cutting apples. A friend of ours had this Apple peeler-corer and it amazed me at what it could do! Just a crank of the handle, after putting the apple in the right place, is all you need to do and you can have a fully peeled apple and a cored apple if you want as well. I like that you can choose whether or not to have the apple cored. The only weird thing is that for one of the settings (I can't remember which) it slices the apple into a spiral. The kids don't mind it being cut like that so it's not that big of a deal. Apparently you can also use this on potatoes which would be awesome! I haven't tried it on potatoes though. I also like that this one has a suction cup on the bottom to get it to stick to the surface it's sitting on. I've seen others that have a clamp and I'd be afraid of it damaging the counter top. Design It's a little hard to get the coring mechanism off of it so that's why I gave this a 7.

Much Better Than Some Models

4

I peel a LOT of apples when I make applesauce every fall so I need something to make that process a bit easier. On the recommendation from a friend I initially purchased the Apple Peeler and Corer device from Pampered Chef. That was a huge mess so when I saw Williams Sonoma had their own model I immediately ordered one from their website. This model is infinitely better and easier to use than others because it has a little suction base that attaches directly to the countertop so there is no need for a slippery, ill fitting base on which the machine constantly slips. This little suction cup securely holds the machine in place while you peel apple after apple after apple. It simply does not move. It does do a good job of peeling and slicing the apples as long as they are perfectly round. This really is not ideal for home grown apples or apple seconds which are not uniform. It shares the same problem as other peeler/corers in that it takes quite a deep layer off when peeling and you sacrifice rather a large amount of the apple's flesh. This also has the unfortunate tendency to leave bits of core behind. Not the main core, but those little clear pieces around the seeds that are like popcorn kernel skins and have no place in a smooth applesauce. So, even if you do peel and core your apples with this you still need to run your finished applesauce through a sieve in order to remove all the core remainders. When using the slices in a pie you also have to be sure to recore the apple to make sure all those pieces are gone. While this is a huge improvement on other models it is still not completely ideal to use for lots of apples and is very difficult to clean thoroughly. If you are making a single pie, this is great, but for applesauce you really need a different option.

Great invention!

If you want to peel and core a large number of apples quickly, this is really a great tool. The suction part is strong, so it will stay stuck to the counter top while you work. You just stick an apple on the prongs, and turn the handle and it peels and cores it. It isn't always accurate in getting the core but if you adjust the apple you can usually get most of it. It isn't perfect in getting all the peel off either but it still saves a lot of time. And it slices the apple, so you can just put a knife through all the slices, and have quick apple pie makings. It's very easy to clean too.

handy little gadget

Good little tool. sometimes the suction doesn't work so well, but other than that I have no complaints. Ease of Cleaning This is kind of hard to clean because the juices and peelings get stuck in every little orifice. Also because you are peeling apples the juice is sticky so if you are peeling a lot of apples then you wait a long time before you clean it which means it has become sticky. Cleaning it a pain but still only take s a couple minutes. Durability I have had this for less than a year and have used it at least five times. It still works well and seems like it will be a long lasting product. I peel lots of apples when I use it, probably at least 30 apples at a time to make fruit roll ups and it still works just as well on the 30th apple as it did on the first. Design design is pretty good. The only real complaint I have is the suction. A lot of time I have to mess with it for a few minutes to get it to suction to the counter, but once I get it is good to go for the rest of the time.

This Apple Peeler is Amazing!!!!

5

I love this apple peeler, it is totally amazing! I thought it would be hard to turn and hard to clean as well and also thought it would work awful. Boy, was I wrong and I was amazed and astonished at how well it really does work. You just stick the apple on the pointed end and turn, it peels the apple effortlessly as well as slices it at the same time. It is simple to use and very sharp so it peels very quickly and easily. I love it so much that I actually went and picked about ten pounds of apples so I could use it. It works great for baked apples, any apple dessert, or just to eat the way they are. It has a lever that you pull up to have the suction bottom stick to the counter so that it does not move all around when you are peeling the apples. It peels an apple in about 20 seconds, very fast. Clean up is a breeze , just rinse and dry. There are no tiny pieces to undo and reassemble. It is not large and it stores well in a cabinet or on a shelf. I would recommend this to anyone and in fact , plan on buying another for my daughter. It is a must have in the kitchen if you love to use apples in your cooking! Five stars!!! Ease of Cleaning SImple to clean Durability Sturdy and strong Design Ingenious design

Every mom should have one of these!

I think that every mother should have one of these to cut apples for kids. I have a three year old who loves apples but hates the peel. I was forever trying to slice the peel off, what a pain! I saw this at the store and decided to try it. I love it! It is so fast and easy. I have found that if my counter top is dirty the suction part doesn't stick well. It is adjustable so you can peel and cut, or just cut but leave the peel on. My daughter likes to take the peel and pretend it's a snake, makes me laugh:) She can even turn the handle which is fun. I have noticed some of the metal parts looking a little discolored, but it has not affected the use of this machine at all. I have not used it to cut apples for pies or apple sauce or anything like that. I like the look of it, kind of old fashioned looking, it is a fun piece! Ease of Cleaning I just rinse it off after I use it. Super easy!

not so great

Peels great but will not core or slice. Apple just ends up tearing off the prongs because the apple will not go through the corer/slicer. I tried several times to adjust the corer/slicer to actually let the apple go through but it tore up three different apples without ever going through the corer/slicer properly.

The Best Of All Of The Apple Processors I Have Used

5

I have three apple corers. My first one was the Pampered Chef Apple Peeler/Corer. I didn't like the quality of the metals used in that, and the screw that is supposed to put it on the counter top or wood piece annoyed me. It was not always as sturdy as I wanted it to be. After trying another brand, I found a different style of apple peeler/corer from Williams Sonoma. This one is different because it is not put in the edge of a counter top with a screw on base. This one has a suction which grasps a flat counter top so you are not forced to have a free edge of counter top big enough to put the brace. I also found the parts of this apple corer/peeler to be a bit nicer than the other two that I own. The metals seem more durable and not as prone to rust as the other two, which often turn black or discolor as I use them. When using any of these type units, you have to be sure that apples are HARD and CRISP or they will not work on the rotating handle, the centers will just twist out and the apple will not go anywhere. Also, very unevenly shaped apples will have missed spots and might even not peel well. I love the slicer feature too- you have a round blade which cores and also slices the apples, but you can not control the width of the slices. Ease of Cleaning Because of all of the grooves and crevices in this tool, you have to carefully clean with hot water and just a touch of soap, and I make sure to oil down the rotating area slightly just to keep it from rusting and to keep it able to move smoothly next time it is used. Durability Of all of the apple corer/slicer/peelers I have, this is my favorite. It seems to have a slightly better composition of metals, and the suction area still grabs well after four or so years of use. The blades are still sharp, although I do not use these constantly. Design I like the suction base to the Williams Sonoma Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer a lot better than those which have a brace on the bottom that you need to tighten on the edge of a counter. They are harder to store and cumbersome. The flat bottom of this unit is much nicer for storage. I find that I am more apt to pull this one out and use it than I was the others as they seem to be so much more of a hassle to set up and take down. I like that you can use these on any counter top and don't have to have the available edge for putting it on either. I do like using it for potatoes on occasion, although not ofen. The same thing applies as with apples- if it is uneven in shape or too soft, this gadget is virtually a waste of time in most cases.

Can't live without my Apple Peeler-Corer

4

Every fall I love to make apple crisps and lots of them, but I would get so tired of peeling and cutting up apples. Then I found the Williams-Sonoma Apple Peeler-Corer. What an excellent product and a must have for anyone using apples and potatos. I love how you it suction cups to your countertop to hold it in place. I put the apple in and start cranking away. Even my six year old daughter can help me and I don't have to worry about her getting hurt from using a knive. There is an option to have it core the apple but I have not had much luck with that because not all apples are made the same and some times it misses part of the core or takes to much apple so I basically just use it to peel the apples. I can peel a whole bag of apples in the time it takes to manually peel 2 apples. I have heard that you can use the peeler to peel potatos. I haven't tried that but I can see how easy it would be to use. A definite must have!

Apple ppeler with suction is nice

4

I really wanted this peeler to actually use for potatoes instead of just apples. As for apples, this peeler does exactly what it's suppose to do. Its fairly easy to add/install an apple (although you may have to read the manual to see how it connects the first time). I also think the blade works really well on the apples too. The suction cup also is a very large benefit so that it doesnt move around easily or budge while you are spinning to peel the apple. When I used it for potatoes, because of the odd shapes of potatoes, it didn't end up working the greatest. I cant say the product is bad though because it isn't intended for that. Also, the corer works great too. It's definitely a good purchase if you love to eat apples without the skin or worrying about bitining into the middle. The spinner to peel is easy to rotate and doesn't take much energy either. I would definitely recommend it to any avid apple eater!
