A yummy treat for my cat

5

Many canned cat foods have smells that are somewhat of a deterrent when I open the can. This is not the case with the Wellness sardine, shrimp and crab formula. My cat is a very senior cat and it is often difficult to get her to eat. So much of the desire to eat in cats, and some humans, is the smell, so I am constantly on the lookout for enticing aromas for her. I believe my cat finds the aroma of the Wellness Feline sardine, shrimp and crab formula enticing because the proof is in the clean plate. She finished all of the morsels on her plate of this product. Unlike some canned products, this one has very healthy ingredients including three types of fish, chicken, rice, broth and some vegetables. The natural anti-oxidants can contribute to maintaining her health especially as her nutrition needs have increased because of her advanced age. Consequently, I am grateful to have found a product that is good for her health, made with quality ingredients and something that she will eat. That's like hitting the jackpot!

Wellness: You'll feel good about what you feed your kitty

5

After some research on cat food ingredients, and checking several brands, what seemed to be important was to find foods that contain pure protein ingredients, without the use of the words "By-Product", "Meat Meal", etc. I found two brands that satisfied these requirements, and sold me on their philosophy - one of them is Wellness. If you look at the ingredients on any of their food products, they only list real meats (not meat by-products), and some veggies that are OK for cats. My kitty only took a little while to get used to the healthy foods I got her (I got supplies of both brands), and I think the main reason is that she had been used to lower quality food from her breeders - what I now call 'kitty junk food' (like Friskies etc). Unless a cat refuses to touch a certain food (in which case I tend to trust their instinct, in case they can smell something really wrong that I would not know), they usually get used to any new food over time. Ideally you would start mixing it into their old brand slowly until you can give them 100% of the new food that you trust. Wellness canned cat foods are not as stinky as lower quality wet food brands - you can tell the difference in the smell quality after a while if you feed them Wellness and then something like Fancy Feast, if you run out of the 'good stuff'! They do of course have their own stinkiness (like the Sardine, Shrimp & Crab Recipe, which is extra fishy), but this is the kind of stinkiness cats love! My kitty has tried - and loved - all of the Wellness canned food flavors. What I also find really reassuring on their quality, is that sometimes I can see little carrots and veggie pieces in their pureea, which makes me feel more at peace that I am feeding good stuff to my kitty. In terms of price: of course Wellness is much pricier than other brands, but: I have tried to find ways to save as much as I can in the following ways, so I can still bring this brand home to my kitty: - buy the large cans (12 oz) and split them into smaller meals (the big can saves you quite a bit) - compare pricing on these large cans among different chain & local pet food stores. Of course buy where you can get it cheaper - look for offers/coupons (can't find that many Wellness coupons, but sometimes you can find store coupons or online coupon codes)

Wellness sardine, shrimp & crab is not a favorite

4

Wellness feline sardine, shrimp, and crab formula is just not a favorite with our cats.  I really have no idea why.  They will eat it occasionally; at other times, they won't even touch it.  I'm thinking the problem might be the shellfish, as our cats have never been big shellfish eaters.  I know from the other reviews that other cats do like it, so maybe it depends on the cat. Nonetheless, Wellness is high quality food-- high quality protein, some fruits and vegetables, and no meat by products, rendered animal fats, or artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.  In addition, it is low carbohydrate, which is important since cats use fats for energy and have no real use for carbohydrates, which just make them overweight and prone to develop diabetes.  I would recommend buying it a case at a time so you can get a case discount and buying a wide variety of flavors so you can find out which ones your cat likes and feed them a variety of food, which they always like.

Fish-hater loves this one!

Both of my cats like this formula. Which is funny because one of them is a die-hard fish hater. Maybe the shellfish is a different smell? When I switched my Kitties to high protein canned wet food, I shopped around quite a bit. I was looking for no by-products, low grain and high protein.  I also like to switch brands because I realized that I was thinking that we had to settle for one kind of cat food. Silly me! I wouldn't eat just one kind of food, why should the cats? Anyhow, we do end up using mostly Wellness canned food. The price is decent and they have mulitple varitetes and the cats like it. I do also throw in other brands that meet my criteria but Wellness seems to be a favorite. On a side note, the cats lost lots of weight on the high protein canned food diet. Without having to starve them!Sign up for coupons on their website too, that helps:)

Good stuff. Get's the Miss Hex fist o' seven seal of approval

When I send my husband to the pet food store for cat food, I just tell him to pick up the "fishy" flavors. Our local pet store doesn't sell the mass-produced, chock-full-of-additives brands the grocery stores carry, so I know he'll come home with stuff my cats will eat and that I can trust to be good for them. Wellness Sardine, Shrimp, & Crab is a definite winner with my picky oldest cat (she of the sensitive stomach). I've had two cats die of Chronic Renal Failure, so I'm very concerned with making sure my cats get some wet food in their diets. And GOOD wet food is essential. There's so much worrisome stuff in the stuff that comes from the grocery stores. When there was the big pet food scare this past year, I knew we didn't have to worry. (They did end up pulling one brand, not Wellness, due to the possibility of Melamine in the food.) When Miss Hex comes in asking for wet food, I'm happy to feed this to her and she's happy to eat it.

My cats (3 of 'em) love it!

I have been using Wellness moist food for my cats for over 6 years.  I am very satisfied with it as the cats love it, eat it up and I don't use alot since it is a very high quality food and they get all the moist food they need with only 2oz. per day each.  I also supplement their diet with a all natural, no by-product dry food, Promise (reveiwed elsewhere). I am comfortable that the product is safe and nutritious for my animals.  I highly recommend it.
