Only for serious small-area coverage or medical necessity
This vanicream SPF 60 is very thick and does not spread on the skin with any ease. In fact I don't see how it could be applied to large swaths of the body successfully. I have used it just in small multiple dabs under my eyes and on my nose. I've also used it directly on a new scar after stitches were removed just to keep the sensitive new skin totally blocked from the sun. But it's very hard to apply. One pearl-sized dab would only cover about one and a half to two square inches of skin. It simply doesn't have the smoothness or moisture to spread any further. Scent There is little to no scent. Absorption This SPF 60 leaves a white / gray film wherever you use it. That's not to say certain compounds aren't absorbed, but the UVA components are quite opaque and visible after application. This is not a sunscreen for everyday use under your makeup. Longevity It lasts where it's applied. Effectiveness I've never gotten any burning or tanning in the areas to which it's applied. Ease of Application As mentioned above, this does not apply easily. It has a thick texture that simply doesn't spread beyond an inch or two of where it's applied. If putting this stuff over a large area of the body like the back, you'd have to dab scores of little dots of this Vanicream 60 over the whole area of the back, evenly spaced, and rub it in from there. Not convenient.
