Great for only ONE season!

4

Being strapped for cash but loving to grill and get that charcoal taste on our food when we first started out, we bought this grill just about every summer for 3 years. It's perfect for the budget, for people just starting out, small places, and if you want to get a new better one later on but don't want to sacrifice giving up grilling in the time being. Cover the rack with aluminum foil and you are all set to load it up with coal and get going. Be forewarned it will fall apart when it is done and ready to quit, which is just after the summer has ended. This is with being used a few times a week. Performance Never had a problem with using it. Did what I needed it to do, keeping the coals in, fire up, and grilling the burgers! Ease of Use Very, very easy to put together and use. Does not take a handy man to put it together. Ease of Cleaning Easy! Just wrap it with aluminum foil and then unwrap it and clean as usual. Durability It's not going to last more than the summer season, with using it 2 or 3 times a week. Each one pretty much fell apart right after summer was over. With the price, it will not last forever.

Not worth it

This was my barbecue grill I was using in my apartment, until I moved into my house. It was a severely lacklustre experience and was not worth the money I had spent for it. The meat took forever to cook, and because of that, the meat was quite literally charred at the exterior and barely cooked in the centre. I had to stop hosting barbecues because it was just a failure. Performance Unless the item you were cooking was nice and thin, like a vegetable or a thinly sliced meat, it would cook terribly. The only thing we could cook were vegetables - and needless to say, a barbecue with only vegetables is hardly a barbecue! Versatility Vegetables. That's about it. Ease of Use Very, very simple. Anybody could handle it. Ease of Cleaning Much easier than a lot of barbecues, but I've seen much better. Durability It broke after two years of very, very little use. Good riddance! Design On the plus side, it looks very nice on our balcony. Very small, it took little space and we could still use the balcony!

Easy to set up with alot of room to spare

Great bi-level grates for multiple food cooking. Overall a great little grill to get the party started. Can use just a little charcoal for small cookouts or load it up and cook serveral types of foods at the same time. Two levels help to keep finished foods warm and to finish cooking the rest. Performance Nice big vent holes front and back that help to keep the coals hot all through the cooking process. Vent stack in the top to help keep the heat circulating.Nice square grate with lots of room for cooking whole chickens and more. Second tier for keeping foods warm, this grill has it all and so easy to use. Versatility Limited to using only charcoal or wood for cooking and it does not have a hook up for bottled gas cooking. With the ability to move the grill so it faces into the wind for proper cooking techniques it has what you need to get a great grilling experience. Ease of Use No complaints for ease of use, I can use it in the deep winter and still have the best grilling experience. Once the grate is removed you fill the tray with coals and arrange an electric starter in the mound or you can use fluid to light the coals and once they are ready spread the coals and replace the grate and your ready to add your food, whether its meats potatoes or vegetables the heat this grill makes and maintains is very dependable. Ease of Cleaning Not so easy to clean the grates especially as they aren't made of teflon and they get full of raw food and gets cooked on, but if you have a grill grate scraper it works the best right after your done cooking to take a moment to scrape the grates and let the rest of the heat cook the residue off. If you want a deep clean try using a power washer and this takes time, energy, and the right type of cleaner or you can dissasemble and hand scrub it with some kitchen degreaser and soap and water, again time consuming but if you want it clean every time before cooking on it this is what you would need to do. Not actually easy. Durability Quite durable even on windy days, can stand up to pretty tough weather conditions and still maintain good heat. I've had mine for 7 years and am just now starting to see some rust holes by the legs and some flaking paint from the vent holes slider. Grates are holding up well and after the last 7 years of use I was expecting to have to replace them, not so. Design I like the bi-level for the way I cook, it has come in handy for those days I cook several types of food at the same time so I can keep the cooked food warm while the rest of my items finish cooking. The square grate allows me more room to cook and allows for more items and I like this feature the best.

Small grill

4

We have owned this small grill for about a year and a half now. We don't grill much- probably about less than once a month- so this has worked out fairly well for us. Occasionally, we wish it was slightly larger because hamburgers, or whatever else, for our family and my sisters family can take up some room. It was a cheap grill, and we haven't taken much care for it, but it has held up well enough for a year. We leave it in the backyard and it seems fine there. It is light, so it gets knocked over easily by our dogs or by kids or rainstorms, but it is all still in one piece. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a lot of space and doesn't do a lot of grilling. It is also very portable if you need to take it anywhere.

A great grill for a small bar-be-que

A few years ago, we were in the market for a new grill when our other one got blown away in a storm. Funds were tight so we had to really look around for a good grill at a very reasonable price. We found the Vermont Casting Uniflame Square Charcoal Grill for a great price at Wal-Mart. It's been a great grill and has held up just as great. It is kind of small, but has been great for us because we rarely have large bar-be-ques. It has top and side vents which makes it very easy to control the temperature. It even has a tray in the bottom that makes cleaning out the old ashes extremely easier. I would much prefer to have a gas grill, but my husband prefers the traditional charcoal grill. The wheels on the bottom make it very easy to move around to differant locations and the rack can even be positioned into two differant locations when you need to grill things much closer to the fire. This has definately been a fantastic grill and one that I would receommend.. After owning it for almost 2 years, and it being left out in the weather alot, this grill still has no rust at all on it. A very durable grill.

It has worked for what we need.

We moved into a house last summer and have started really making it our home this summer. After the inital painting and all that we have started to add accessories to our outdoor space. The first the we bought was a grill...my husband was very specific in wanting a charcoal gill because of the increased flavor it adds to anything you grill on it. We liked this grill because of it's price size and easy to clean process. We have used it over and over again and will continue to do so. The one complaint I have about it is, the wire grilling space has really wide holes in it, if your bugrers are not correctly formed you can loose half of your burger through the grill holes down onto the coals. That being said if you only are ever grilling hotdogs or steaks you won't have this problem.

good old fashioned grill

The Vermont casting uniform charcole grill is as close to the old fashioned grills as you can get in this day and age.  I do not like gas grills. I love the charcole smell of a reguloar grill.  I enjoy watching the flames leap up and devour the food.  I am thankful the Vermont Casting Uniform Charcole grill has a lid.  When it rains the food will not get wet as with the old fashioned grills used in days gone by.

For the price you can't beat this grill if you are an occasional griller. We have cooked everything from shrimp to steak on the grill and the food has come out perfectly each time. When the first grill was blown over in a storm and the top broke we bought another one (this time with a pretty red cover) because we were pleased with the first one. Easy to start and perfect size cooking area when cooking for a family of four. The temperature can be easily regulated so you can cook at the right setting for the food. There is no worry that charcoal is going to fall out the bottom or the sides so we can walk away for a minute and grab something if need be. We have noticed that it does not take much to dent the grill or break the hinges so you want to store this in a safe place where the wind won't knock it over. Seeing as it is light weight and easy to move, storing it outside is not the best options. Aslo since it is so easy to move around we have taken it with us to several neighbors houses and grilled over there. It does not have a strong woody taste or charcoal taste to the food when it is cooked so it goes over well even with the pickest of grillers who only like gas grills.
