Given to me as a joke, the jokes on her, I love it.

I am the youngest of four kids, with my oldest sister being 16 years older than me. She was young when women ironed everything and to this day still irons most of her clothes. I was raised with permanent press clothes and never took to ironing anything. We use to tease each other and joke about our lack of, and overabundance of wrinkles in our clothes. Last year for Christmas, my sister thought it would be funny to gift me with an iron. So she did. When I opened my gift it was a Sunbeam Steam iron. We laughed about it and I brought it home and set it on the shelf. One day as I was washing and drying some new Egyptian linen dish towels, they came out of the dryer a wrinkled mess. I couldn't even begin to fold them, they were that wrinkled. So, out came my shiney, never been used Sunbeam Steam iron. Much to my delight that iron smoothed out those wrinkles like they were butter on a hot griddle. I was amazed how nice they looked and how soft they felt when I was done. So you'd think that I would have put that iron back on the shelf and be done with it? Heck no! I was so pleased with the look and feel of those towels , I went looking for something else to iron. Long story short, I now use my Sunbeam Steam iron all the time. I love to see my husband's dress shirts nice and crisp, and with the steam setting I can achieve that look and feel for his shirts easy peasy. I have even started ironing my jeans. This iron has transformed me. I love it and the results I get with it. Now I tease my sister all the time about how my steam ironed clothes are much easier done than hers. I told her that if she was nice to me, I'd buy her a Sunbeam Steam iron for her birthday. And, I think I really will. She deserves an iron that does such a good job so easy and quick. Performance It performs beautifully removing wrinkles and leaving pressed items crisp and smart looking. Safety With the auto shut off, this iron prevents any accidents due to leaving it on by mistake. Ease of Cleaning A damp cloth is all that is needed to clean any residue from it's surface. I sometimes dampen a wash cloth and then iron it after using spray starch on something I ironed. Ease of Use Very light and it has a comfortable handle. When I turn it on, it heats quickly. Heat settings are clearly marked and the steam/no steam switch is simple to turn on and off. Durability Have only had mine for about 5-6 months, but it appears to be well constructed. Design All of the settings are clearly marked, the steam water reservoir is easy to fill, and the auto shut off is a design feature that every iron should have.

Sunbeam Steam Master 4055 Iron with Auto Shut-off

I have to admit that I don't iron very often. I only iron when I have to, which isn't very often. I try to buy clothes that are wrinkle resistant. I don't have the kind of job where I have to have freshly ironed clothes every day, but when I do have to iron the Sunbeam Steam Iron does the job. I have had this iron for years and even though it doesn't get used very often it always does a great job. Performance I love the steam option on this iron. It really helps to make the job of ironing a lot easier. I have had this iron for years and have never had any trouble with it. Safety This iron is very safe to use. It has an auto shut off feature and it turns itself off it isn't used or if it is lying down for too long. I have never worried about leaving the iron on because I know it will turn itself off if I forget. Ease of Cleaning I try to use distilled water for steaming so it makes it very easy to clean the iron. I have never really had to clean the iron besides cleaning off the dust from lack of use. Ease of Use This iron is very easy to hold and use. The cord is long enough to reach from the outlet to the ironing board. Durability I have had this iron for longer than I can remember and I have never had any trouble with it. It works great and makes our clothes look fantastic. Design This iron is very easy to use. The design is simple and does a great job.

Lasts awhile

I received the Sunbeam Steam Master 4055 Iron with Auto Shut-off for a wedding present, and I've had it for a good ten years now. Its built to last. It heats up quickly, has a steam component, and has an auto shut off. It does its job and is good as a basic iron can be; its rather affordable as well. Performance Overall this iron will heat up and do a basic job of ironing your clothes. I have a lot of cotton clothes, and when I try to iron out my husband's pants, for instance, I do have to go over the wrinkles a few times, depending of the severity of creases. But it gets hot and will do its job. A spray of starch seems to make everything easier. I've used the steamer function, but not too impressed with it; usually leaks water a little bit on my clothes, but I could just be an inexperienced ironer? Safety I like the auto shut off if you leave it on too long. I've never had this happen to me, but it makes me feel safer knowing it will shut off by itself. Ease of Cleaning I've owned this iron for ten years and have never needed to clean it. Not sure what you would do to clean it, but seems easy to me. Ease of Use The Sunbeam is basic, you plug it in, let it warm up and use it. If you want to use the "steam" function, you pour water into the steamer section. The only times I've had trouble is when using the steamer function and sometimes the water drips out a little bit on my clothes that I'm ironing. But it may be due to the fact that I fill it up to much or something, but overall its easy to use. Durability Again, its built to last, had it for many years and still working fine. Design Looks like any other iron to me, guess its designed okay. You can turn a dial to switch between the types of material your using, or push the steamer button, but that's pretty basic with all irons.

Switched Over

When I retired my Proctor-Silex from daily use to make it an arts & crafts iron only, I had to have something for every day use. So I selected this because it was so light and easy to handle. I wanted something that was very light weight and simple enough that I would not have to make a lot of decisions. This iron handles great for delicates, permanent press items, wool, cotton, linen or just about any fabric. I can use the automatic spray or I can use the button for spot spraying if I have a hard to get the wrinkles out fabric. It has a nice long cord that reaches farther than the previous irons that I had and it doesn't get twisted up like some cords do. I do not like to iron but there are times that you have no choice and because of the lightness and the easy of this iron, it makes it seems less like a chore than before. Because I do have some problems with finger and wrist pain, I don't have the added pressure with this iron and am thankful that I found such a light weight iron.

Best Iron I've Used in Ages

This iron has all the attributes I look for to use whie sewing and quilting. It heats up well and quickly - especially welcome after it's been in stand by mode. Speaking of which, it has the saftey auto turnoff feature but does not go into this mode until it's been left standing for 15 minutes. This is almost twice as long as many other irons on the market. That is an important feature when you are up and down from the sewing machine to press seams. The iron produces steam well, has a generous reservoir for water and best of all is priced very well. Performance Effective heat, plenty of steam, nice range of temps available. Safety Auto turnoff in 3 positions. However you can leave it standing for 15 minutes before it will go into auto turnoff mode. Ease of Cleaning I thought I had ruined it when I got fusible webbing on the sole plate. But it came off very easily with no damage to the sole plate at all. Ease of Use Heats up quickly. All dials easy to read. Durability Excellent - Has survived a couple of falls from the ironing board with no problems. Design streamlined.

A product worth having in the house even if you'll use it only once in a while. Performance It heats up in seconds and irons beautifully. Safety The auto shut off feature of this iron is assuring. Most of us don't really iron all the time so the fear is always that that one time you use the iron, you'll forget to shut it off. Enter automatic shut off feature left stage! Ease of Cleaning I just recently got my iron and have not yet needed to clean it but I am excited to see that it has the self clean button for the second I need to. I'm just waiting for something to stick to my iron!! Ease of Use I remember the good old days when I used to damp my clothes by hand to get them ready for ironing. This iron is pretty straight forward to use. It gives me steam when I need it and I can shut it off when I don't need it. Durability I have not had it too long but I had to move soon after I got it. It handled well in the move and so far I can't complain. It appears to be a durable appliance. Design Not a shabby design at all. I know there are more sophisticated iron out there that are two-in-one, have ergonomic handles and all, this oldie is still a goodie. It's designed to allow the user to determine a lot more features than the most basic iron.
