I had high hopes for this medication.

3

I have adult ADHD and have been working with my Doctor to find a proper combination of medications to help manage my symptoms. My Doctor prescribed to me, Strattera starting off at a real low dose then titrated me up to 80 mg over an 8 week period. It seemed to be working well for me. Focus and anxiety were improved. When my dosage was increased to 80 mg, my blood pressure went way up and I broke out in a full body rash. I was immediately taken off and the side effects went away. I had no problem quitting cold turkey which was great. One side effect that I did not mind was the weight loss. Aside from the bad reaction I had that caused me to discontinue the medication, dry mouth was bad. I could not talk for thirty seconds without my mouth going bone dry.

Gave me terrible constipation!

1

I've been on Strattera for two weeks, in that time I've had only two bowel movements.  I have always been regular- I eat relatively well, I run four miles a day and drink tons of water so there is NO reason this should be happening.  My stomach is now always distended and I'm suffering terrible stomach aches.  They have gotten so bad that they're keeping me up at night.  Tryong to force myself to go has given me hemorrhoids, which I have NEVER ever had before.  I also take Wellbutrin, which I've taken for about 6 months with no issues until I started on Strattera.  The little bit of improvement in concentration is NOT worth what it's done to my tummy.  And forget about the headaches- they're bad too but in comparison to not being able to use the bathroom, they're nothing.

Ineffective in Adults

2

As a female adult with ADHD, my primary physician first tried to treat my symptoms with Strattera. After six months on this drug, I was taken off by a psychiatrist who informed me that this drug is largely ineffective in adults. I guess it's just another reason why psychiatrists are better for treating ADHD. I found the side effects to be terrible, and worse than stimulants. Dry mouth, headaches, dizziness, etc.  That said, I am not a doctor, nor am I psychiatrist but I have had personal experience with this medication. Additionally, I have heard some positive feedback from parents whose children are on Strattera. If it has benefit for children, then that is wonderful. For adults, however, it's a different story. As always, it's important to speak with your doctor if you have any questions about this medication, as well as any other medications you may be taking. I look forward to hearing other stories from adults regarding this medication.

strattera works for me

I've been on wellbutrin for clinical major depression (serious drug history) and was prescribed STRATTERA by my Dr. I was taken aback, not considering myself ADD - though I suppose it fits. Well let me tell you people ~ I feel more like myself these days. I am focused, thus able to accomplish most all of what needs to be done in a day - and I'm a Ft student and single mom. This drug is like most: some work better for others, they do not all have the same results for everbody. I haven't experienced any side effects, and I take 40 mg. daily. It'd be nice not to need/take anything, but don't let people scare you out of taking what could make your life better.

A tremendous help, when you have drug sensitivities.

I've been thru*  MANY* different drugs for depression, and if there is a side effect, I would have it.  Strattera, added to my Zoloft, has been remarkable.  I feel more stable, without a series of side effects.  I've been on it for 2 months now.  It's not a stimulant, but does help with energy levels, so often associated with depression.
