Not what I expected from Sony

3

I had some great expectations due to the Sony name.  I have owned a million Sony products and have loved all of them.  I don't think this camera has lived up to the Sony name.  This is what I like about it:  It takes decent basic pictures; the compact size makes it easy to slide into pockets or my wife's purse; the screen on the back is good-sized, given the overall small size of the camera;  has good battery life; it takes decent short videos.   Here is what I don't like;  There is an interminable delay between pressing the button and the taking of the picture.  It is not just 1-2 seconds, but is sometimes 5 or 6 seconds.  This results in a lot of missed pictures and a lot of blurry pictures; the zoom does not zoom in very close.  Also the lever for the zoom is not very user-friendly.  We have had the camera for a few years and haven't had any problems with it, so I guess that is a good thing.  I still love Sony, but the major drawbacks to this camera would make me not want to buy another Sony camera.

Will never buy a Sony product again

Pros: easy to use, very compact, good battery life, fair price at time of purchase.  Cons: picture quality not great, the delay is a lifetime between pressing button and picture snapping - I am talking like 30 secs to a minute here - yah, don't plan on ever catching one of those cute baby smiles, does not take pictures indoors very well, better outside, but not fantastic, developed pictures do not come out clear in sizes that megapixel amount should accomodate.  i.e. Many pictures over 4x6 come out as "warning" when you try to develop them.  Also, when you zoom, pictures are ALWAYS blurry.  Annoying. For Sony being a leader in the electronics industry pretty diappointed with their products,  I have owned 2 Sony digital cameras and a video camera and this will be the last one I ever purchase.  The best part of their products are the features and user friendliness.  However, the quality of the performance just does not justify the price of the products.

good sturdy camera

This camera has great zoom and plenty of storage for my casual picture taking style.  I upload often so I've never come close to the limit it has.  It is lightweight and easy to slip in a jacket pocket or even larger jeans pockets when you are out.  The screen is of decent size to view pictures as well.  The biggest issue I have with my camera is that the dial to change settings is easily bumped and changed so I find myself in nighttime mode on accident.  Also a negative is the delay in picture taking but that is to be expect with all cameras at this level.

too delicate

Sony cybershot is not a camera for someone with kids.  My daughter dropped it on the carpet and the lens motor was trashed.  We only had the camera for 1 year and that was the first accident we had with it. if you are considering this camera, i suggest you consider carefully.  Although it is reasonably priced, if it only lasts a year, it is not much of a bargain.

good in daylight horrible at night or dark lighting

The Sony digital camera takes good daylight/natural light pictures, but once I try to take a picture at night or in dark light or low lighting the flash will over compensate and make the picture completely black, white or random red tones. It's horrible and a waste of money.and I have tried fixing the white light and the light absorbtion and it doesn't help.

great camera for a good price!

Although this isn't the most expensive, flashiest camera out there, it's great for a moderate point-and-shoot camera. I especially love the combines 6 mega-pixels, lots of customizable settings, preset features, lithium-ion battery, and more into one affordable package. My first one was stolen, and I went out right away and bought another one!

Love this camera, versatile for all photographers!

It is relatively easy to use. Comes with a quick start guide that makes it easy to get started. I am the type that likes to try and figure it out myself and then read the book for the little things. If you are just going to use the camera for simple point and shoot you can probably get away without the book, but think you would miss out on some of the other neat features on the camera. Has a large screen to view what your taking a picture of and for looking at them. Have the option of putting them on the computer or viewing on a TV by just plugging the cables in. Has a movie option with sound, which is great when you can watch it on TV Memory Sticks of different sizes for keeping your photos. Compatible with printers and computers for transfering photos. Several different ways to do that, either using the memory stick in the printer or computer or using the cables to load on the computer. Rechargeable battery, so you don't have to worry about buying batteries all the time. Charge lasts for quite a while. Has alot of features and options that you can use if you want or an automatic setting if you just want to point, shoot and go! Has a good lens for some close up photos! Can crop and change photos right on the camera. You can purchase many accessories for the camera ranging from add on flash to additional lenses! The website for Sony is great for information on using the camera. They actually have online classes that you can take to learn more about the camera and basic photography skills. Have several different ones for various skills of the user and wanted end results. I think it is a great camera for most everyone. Reasonably priced and decent pictures, with options available for photographers of most skill and interest.
