Hot spots are a nightmare for dogs! They itch and chew them and make the hot spots so much worse, and then they get them to the point where they are bright red and itchy and so sore. I have had a couple of dogs that had big problems with hot spots and quick treatment is important to avoid an infection or a trip to the vet. There are a lot of hot spot topical remedies out there especially if you visit a pet care store and they all range in prices from reasonable to our right crazy. My Shepard had started chewing his bum where his tail connected and literally overnight he had a very bad spot so I bought sergeants because it was more of a reaonable price. It worked great for him. He stopped itching after I treated the area twice and it quickly started to heal up. Before I treated it the spot was so bad he would chew on it and at the same time he would cry out, so it was so itchy he couldn't help chewing it even though it caused him pain. We always treat our dog with this when we suspect a hot spot, and we have avoided the dogs getting an infection and a possible trip to the vet. It seems pretty safe and the dogs have never had any side effects or bad reaction. It must soothe the spot quickly because he went from non stop licking and chewing it to completely leaving it alone. I recommend it highly because it stops the spot from becoming worse and it helps the dog to leave it alone so it can heal up. I always keep this on hand for my dog that is very prone to not spots. I also used it on my pug when he chewed his leg raw and wpuldmt leave it alone. I'm not really sure what that spot was but it healed it up nicely and he stopped attacking it after we applied this to the area. Anyone who has a dog that gets hot spots should have this so they can help their dog because not spots have to drive them crazy and they look so sore. Its a quick fix for the itch and pain of the spot but you do have to remember to reapply until the spot is completely gone. I recommend it highly

This medication for dogs is a life saver. I had tried many different ways to get my little dog to stop biting herself. She was making raw spots and scores due to the amount of chewing. I came across Sergeants Hot spot medication and decided to try it. You will need to wash your pet and nearly shave the area and apply this medication several times, but it does work. No more raw/bald spots and I know my little dog is much happier. Quality of Ingredients It did worry me at first about my dog licking the medication off, but it did not seam to harm her so I am assuming that the ingredients are safe for external use on your pet. I do not know the long term effect. I can only trust the company which makes this product is trustworthy. Side Effects I have not noticed in adverse side effects of this medication. I am hoping that there will be no long term side effects that have not shown themselves yet. According to the directions if there are side effects you should contact your veterinarian.
