This kit has growing ooze and color changing experiments and even sand which cannot get wet. It is a amazing kit and  ideal for chidren over the age of four. This is a fun way to create a interest in the world of science and one that the kids can have their own science lab at home. I have the feeling that you will enjoy the experiments as well.  The kit allows young scientist to perform server amazing science experiments that includes a erupting color changing volcanot to growing colorul jiggly crystals. The great part of all this is while having fun the kids liearn basic principles of science and learn how to use test tubes and such. The kids includes almost everything needed to set up their experiments but I do give you a word of caution here that adult supervision is needed and should be available when the kids are doing their experiements. And while it comes with most everything some basic supplies are needed such as water, towels, plates or bowls to catch spills and stiring spoons. I found this one difficult to find and suggest that you start doing research to find it especially if you are wanting it for a gift item..

I have to admit that I expected this kit to be dinky. The box only weighed about a pound so I really wasn't expecting anything terrific from it. Boy was I wrong! You don't need to be a science expert to assist your kids with this, which was great for me, and there are so many options when it comes to experiments that you can do with it. It has a guide to help you through the experiments that contains basic information about the experiments as well as basic explanations as to why the reactions happen and things like that. I found that to be very educational for me as well as my kids. Your kids will need to be supervised while using this kit. I don't think that any of the experiments are particularly dangerous, but you are creating chemical reactions and things so you can never be too careful in my opinion. Plus I think that this would be quite messy if you aren't careful. The only real negative that I would mention is that some of these experiments don't produce "instant" results. One of them we had to wait almost two hours for it to produce the desired reaction. That was really frustrating for my younger child who prefers instant gratification. Overall this is a great basic science kit that will provide hours of educational entertainment!

Let me start off by saying that I homeschool my 9 year old 4th grade son. I saw the Scientific Explorer Mind Blowing Science kit on sale so I decided to pick it up on the spur of the moment to add some science experiments to our day. The kit comes with a lot of what you need for the experiments such as cabbage juice powder, citric acid, baking soda, vegetable oil, corn starch, and stir sticks. The things you will need to provide ranges from water, flour, tape, grape juice, coffee filter, tape, to the plates and spoons. So it is not too much on your part to arrange for the experiments. The booklet that comes with it includes a detailed explanation of what happens in the experiment which can make it a mini science lesson for the younger kids. The majority of the experiments use acids, bases, and their chemical reactions to make all the wonders come alive before your eyes. My son loves it and wishes we would do it more often! My only negative thing to say about this kit would be that it is a little messy but what experiment isn't?

"Santa" brought this kit for my 6 year old last year and he loves it!  He especially likes the experient making the hard/solid goo.  When he touches it, it becomes hard but it pour/flows like a liquid.  He also likes mixing the colors to make different colors.  The downside is the mess that's made.  There is no easy way to store the opened packages of mixes so I had to use several ziplock bags to keep it neat and not mixed up.  I was a little nervous about the acid because my kid six-year old wanted to to do all the mixing himself and I wasn't sure how safe it was!  I'm sure its fine but it wasn't clear how safe the mixes were. I would highly recommend this product.  He begs to do the experiments and I'm checking on to getting him some more kits this year.  The instructions were clear but some were pretty involved and took several hours to complete.  A six-year-old with very little patience would have a tough time with many of them but it is worth the time.  Its also great quality time spent with your kiddo!

My daughter received the Scientific Explorer Mind Blowing Science kit for her birthday, and she immediately loved it! She enjoyed helping with most of the experiments, and there were several projects she could do mostly by herself. She would play with it everyday if I would let her, and this is the kind of enthusiasm I definitely want to encourage about science! We even got it out when a friend came over, and they both laughed and oo-ed and ahh-ed for over an hour! Several of the ingredients are very basic, and you can easily get more when the supplies in the kit run out. I was able to talk with them about some very basic scientific principles, making science come to life for them. My only suggestion would be to replace the cardboard box with a plastic, reusable case: we still keep the components of the kit in the box, but it is not ideal. My daughter received this set when she was five, but I think it is suitable for kids up to eight or nine.
