I have tried many storage bins out there. We always have stuff stacked around the house and in the garage. Some containers have bent, snapped, cracked and broke. These seem to hold up really well. They are strong and sturdy and hold a lot of items. They store everything from Christmas ornaments to clothes for different seasons and of different sizes to anything you can think of. I like that the sides of these lids come up a bit. They push and click down on the containers really well and stack on top of each other easily. They keep the things in the bin in good condition, fresh and free from moisture. We had a problem with mice in our garage and everything went from cardboard boxes to plastic containers. These were a great find at a good price. I find that these are cheaper and work better than other ones that cost more. I also like the handles on these. They are easy to grab and carry around. I would buy these again. They are great!

I purchased a couple of these for storing some old magazines which were to be kept in the garage. They are really heavy duty plastic which can cope with an immense amount of weight inside them and they stack on top of each other really nicely. The question is can the shelf hold up to the weight that the containers can manage. The downsides really, I think, are a manufacturing error. The Rubbermaid Roughneck 18 gallon storage indeed holds so much weight that if you are in fact able to pick them up using the lip (which can be a bit painful on your fingers), the lid pops off. Strangely, it is quite difficult to undo the latch and I have managed to catch my fingers in them on many occasions. So far, the usefulness of the containers outweighs the pain of my fingers getting trapped only because I don't have the need to open the containers very often. I think these containers are great for storage, but only if you're happy to leave them closed!

We have a collection of various storage totes in our garage. Among the most durable, long lasting is the Rubbermaid Roughneck 18 Gallon Storage Tote. We originally started purchasing these totes several years ago for my wife's craft business. She designs and creates decorated clothing for pre-schoolers through young mommies. Participating in craft & holiday shows on weekends requires us to pack and transport an inventory of items making sure that the containers we use keep the items intended for sale clean and ready to display. The 18-gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck is made of a rugged thick polyethylene plastic that can take a weekly beating. At approximately 16" x 24" x 16" They're reasonably compact and can be stacked in pairs in most SUVs. In our garage we can stack them 4 high while still keeping their use practical. When using them for her business we also use them to transport display apparatus and tools. They are extremely tough and durable and accommodate heavy, odd shaped items as effectively as they store the goods. **What I like** The molded polyethylene plastic construction is rugged, durable and long-lasting. The lids for each container snaps on securely protecting the contents. As mentioned earlier, the totes stack well and make good use of space. Although we currently own more of these Rubbermaid tough guys than we'll probably ever require, it's nice to know that even after many years they're still sold and are often on sale. The containers and lids are easily cleaned with little more than a garden hose. **What I don't like** Rubbermaid Roughnecks are available in only solid colors. Ours tend to be either blue or green. For our original purpose, a transparent tote of this toughness would be preferable. Being able to quickly identify the contents visually would be a huge time saver when dealing with a large number of essentially identical containers. I guess the tough polyethylene material used precludes a transparent variety. We resort to labels, but with a frequently changing inventory this becomes dated quickly. But, for general consumer use, this shouldn't be a major problem. While the lids snap on securely, they are fully detachable. For ourpurposes this means there's the possibility of them getting soiled or worse, lost. Where do they disappear to? Good question; if only I knew. **My Viewpoint** For rugged, compact general storage there's a lot to like about Rubbermaid Roughnecks. They're readily available, often sale-priced and will last for years. I recommend them.

THE HANDLES ARE BUILT FOR EASE OF CARRYING AND THE LIDS SNAP ON ENOUGH THAT YOU FEEL SAFE STORING ANYTHING FROM CHRISTMAS DECORATION TO CHILDREN'S CLOTHING, WHICH IS WHAT I AM DOING RIGHT NOW. IT IS VERY CHEAP TO STORE WHEN YOU GET THESE ON SALE AND COMPARE THEM TO HAVING TO BUY ALL THE CLOTHING FOR THE NEXT CHILD! THEY ALSO HOLD CHRISTMAS LIGHTS AND A VERITY OF OTHER THINGS. THEY COME IN LOTS OF CHOICES OF COLORS SO YOU CAN PICK EACH ONE FOR WHATEVER YOU ARE HOLDING. I DO BLUE FOR BOYS STUFF AND GREEN FOR GIRL STUFF, MAINLY BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT COLOR WAS ON SALE WHEN I DECIDED TO ORGANIZE! THEY ARE SO HANDY. YOU CAN EVEN THROW A BLANKET ON THEM AND TURN IT INTO A NICE NON-SHARP COFFEE TABLE, AS I'VE SEEN SOME PEOPLE DO.  THEY ARE VERY MULTIPURPOSE AND AS LONG AS YOU DON'T LOSE THE LID. GOOD LUCK GETTING A NEW ONE IF YOU LOSE A LID! THAT IS NOT FUN AT ALL. GREAT STORAGE, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG...UNLESS YOU LOSE THE LID!

If you ever had pets that get into everything these things are a blessing let me tell you. We have several cats and they are constantly trying to get into the bird food and the cat food bags, so I came up with the brilliant idea to get one of these Rubbermaid Roughneck 18-Gallon Storage totes and they could not get into it. It lasts long, it is tough. They try to claw at, knock it over, and they just can't do it. it is durable, affordable and the are pretty cool looking too. They are stackable so you stack them in a corner somewhere and save space. There is a lot of space in one of those totes. We also use them for holiday decorations, and for recyclables to keep them organized as well. We can fit our christmas tree in one of these totes. It comes apart in sections but nonetheless it is a 6ft tree. It is impressive to see how much these totes hold. It even blocks out insects ans little pests (we have an outside storage area and squirrels and chip monks love holiday decorations, especially stuffed animals. They like to rip the stuffing out and make nests with it.) So needless to say these totes have been a lifesaver. Thank you rubbermaid.

The Rubbermaid Roughneck 18-gallon storage container will get the job done for many things. It does a great deal better than a box. Rubbermaid is a high quality brand and is very durable. If you just need to keep things organized and dry then this Rubbermaid Roughneck storage container will do the job just fine. My concern and problem with this particular storage container is the **LACK **of a good locking system. For the price being paid, i want to know i can transport my storage container without fear of it opening and losing or destroying the contents. The snap on lids don't give you a sense of security. Rubbermaid makes storage containers with handles that latch and lock and give you the sense of security you want. I would only purchase that type of storage container just incase i need to transport my things securely. If you don't plan on ever transporting the Rubbermaid Roughneck above, then it is a good buy.

I have a bunch of the Rubbermaid Roughneck storage bins. They are so useful! I am a little bit of an organization junkie, so I like to have a place for everything and everything in its place, especially for storage. I have three boys and we have quite a lot of hand-me-downs and out-of-season childrens clothing, so I use these bins to organize all of that stuff. I also use them to store holiday decorations, sports gear, and outdoor toys. I love that the bins stack so neatly, so they have a tidy appearance and they don't fall over. They are very sturdy and they don't easily bend out of shape. And they are designed to be easy to carry, so it's easy to grab a bin and carry it up or down the stairs. The lids also snap on very securely.

I can never own enough Rubbermaid totes of any size. They are great at keeping your storage clean and dry and away from any pesky creatures that want to pee and eat your stuff! I've always had a problem with mice getting into my seasonal clothes and pooping and peeing in them. It makes me so mad! But lately I've just kept everything in these totes. You can stack these and write on them what it's contents are so it makes everything so much easier. I also like to store the kids clothes that they've outgrown into these and store them for the next baby that comes along or for consignment sales. You can store Christmas decorations like wreaths, lights and ornaments in this perfectly sized 18 gallon heaven-sent. And they're so easy to carry around too because they have handles on the side!

I bought four of the eighteen gallons storage containers when I got married and moved across the country over 10 years ago and we are still using them. They have been used and abused with no cracks or broken pieces. We have used them as end tables, coffee tables, step stools, toy boxes, baby baths while camping, and of couse, the recommened use - storage. My husband was in the military and we moved 6 times in 8 years so they have been around the block a few times and those original totes are going strong today. We have purchased more of them over the years for holiday storage, off season stuff and garage storage. They stack great without having to worry that the whole stack will fall on your (or yours kids) head, you can fit a ton of stuff in them. Each of my kids have one in the their closet filled with clothes to grow into next summer. We have tried a few other and cheaper brands of storage containers over the years but those and all gone and the rubbermaids are still around!

These totes are the best. I have a few that are not rubbermaid, but you know it. They are not as sturdy, not heavy duty enough. I have cut down on storing a lot of things, but what I have left is mostly in rubbermaid totes. Christmas decorations, old clothing I want to make into quilts, toys to rotate usage, books, camping gear... the list goes on. I know everything is safe in these. Away from water, critters and bugs and so easy to stack. With different sizes it makes it easy to keep the room nice and neat and still store larger items. They could use a way to label the totes, I've taken to putting masking tape on them and writing what is in the totes, but a nice strip of dry erase on the tote would be great. I especially love how easy they are to stack and move. I keep all our camping gear in them and I can move it easily from the camper to the storage room or stack it in the camper for winter. In a pinch stuff can be put outside the camper while camping without worrying about rain or critters getting into it.
