The Wood Grenade is superior to an old fashioned splitting wedge primarily because it is far easier to set. If there are no checks in the logs in which to seat your wedge, there is a sharp point on the Wood Grenade that can be tapped into the log easily so you don't have to hold it while taking a solid swing. The Wood Grenade also has a tendency to 'blast' the two pieces apart, which is kind of satisfying when it happens. Despite the 'blasting' possibility, you should always have an extra wedge, even if it's one of the old ones, handy in case your wedge gets stuck.
