Please clear up the $100 hold - true or not?!?!

3

I am considering the QT debit card. The savings on gas is tempting, and the rewards would be nice too even though it looks like it takes a while for it to add up. The 2 cents off per gallon is my main interest. I have read conflicting reviews about the $100 or $75 or whatever amount of a hold that is supposedly put on your checking account. Can anyone give me a clear answer to this, possibly with proof? (such as a link that explains this in QT's FAQ's or something like that) Thanks!

QuikTrip Reward Card is Great for Instant Gas Discounts

4

My husband got his card in the mail a few days ago.  He has purchased gas as well as items in the store and we have not had any problems with $100 holds being placed on our account.  I believe the holds are placed on your account by your banking institution.  I know for a fact that Bank of Oklahoma was doing this to their members and I switched to Chase.  Ever since I've banked with Chase, I've had no issues with holds when paying at the pump.  So don't fault QT for this issue, it is purely up to your financial institution.  I think the instant savings at the pump is Great, but I wish the rewards for other purchases was a little bit more than 0.25%.  Other than that, I can't wait to get my card in the mail, it has a picture of me and my son on it!

The Jury is Now IN - Great!

* * *Major edit: The QuikTrip MasterCard has now become the [QuikTrip Discover Card][1] .* *I'll add another footnote to the top - bass ackwards...I know.  I've only used this card a handful of times.  Yet my checking account has been credited $1.29.  It's not much...but hey, every little bit counts.  The more you use the card, the more **"cash back"** is put into your checking account.  I'll take every penny I can get.    * *I'm doing this backwards...  I'm adding a footnote at the top.  So far, so good.  I used my **QuikTrip Rewards Debit MasterCard **as a MasterCard the other day for a pizza.  Today I used it at QuikTrip to buy gas & get cash back.  I paid inside for $10 worth of gas & got $10 cash back; total purchase - $20.  At the pump, the price was reduced from $1.49 a gallon to $1.44 a gallon.  Five cents off per gallon during the first 90 days and 2 cents off per gallon after that.  I raised my review from 3 stars to four.  The rest of the original review follows below...*      I'm giving 3 stars for now, but withholding final judgment for a while.  [QuikTrip][2] (see separate review) used to have it's own debit card good for gas & goodies inside the store.  During the first 90 days, you'ld get 5 cents off per gallon.  After that, 2 cents off per gallon.  The debit card was/is linked to your checking account. Now QuikTrip has teamed up with HSBC to bring out the **QuikTrip Rewards Debit MasterCard**.  This card works the same at all QuikTrips, but now has the MasterCard logo and can be used anywhere MasterCard and/or debit cards are accepted.  The therory being, the more you use it, the more rewards you get.  Here's a "copy & paste" from the web page... **The Basics:** - This is not a credit card - it's a new debit card that gives you cash back rewards - Keep your bank and your current checking account and link them to this card - Use this debit card everywhere Debit MasterCard cards are accepted worldwide; for signature, PIN, or ATM transactions - Track your card transactions on your bank statement or on-line at http://www.qt-rewards.com **The Benefits:** - Save 5¢ off each gallon of gas at QT for the first 90 days and 2¢ off each gallon afterwords - Earn up to 4 points for every dollar spent on all your other non-fuel purchases made outside of QT* - $5 will be added right onto your card every time you reach 3,500 points -- no waiting for a check, gift card or coupon - Spend these cash rewards anywhere and anyway you like - you can even transfer them right into your checking account - Be the only QT customers to get special benefits such as cash back at the register with any QT purchase (Avoid the ATM fee) - Be entered in MasterCard sweepstakes -- win tickets to NASCAR, Major League Baseball & more with each signature transaction - Get special discounts and offers when using your card at places like: *priceline.com, National Car Rental, 1-800 flowers, JC Penney, Omaha Steaks* and many more! From what I've heard & read, I wouldn't buy meat from Omaha Steaks, or use 1-800 flowers.  But I do occasionally go to JC Penney.  As stated before...the jury is still out on this one.  I'll update it if I find anything good or bad.  Sorry about the small photo.  It's the only one I could find on the Internet.  You didn't expect me to scan my own card...did you? qt rewards m/c - nice, but a little too much hassle.

2

The QT rewards M/C is nice, but there are a couple of hassles you need to be made more aware of. If you use it at the pump, at least $100 will be frozen in your account for FOUR DAYS. There is a spending limit on it that is VERY strict so if you travel with it, this card may not be enough. And all their operators will do is inform you, they really cannot do anything for you. And then there are the fees... You HAVE to know your account balance because this card will still process through, but without telling you and will then eat you up in fees. It was NOT worth it to me and I cancelled mine. You have to spend $3,500 to get a $5 reward? Every little bit, I know, but that's kinda stretcing it.

Monitor your account carefully

One warning about the QT rewards card. Ensure that the money is in your checking account. It can take up to five days before the transaction appears in your checking account. The bank will pay it even if there is insuffient funds. You will be socked with overdraft fees if there is not enough money in your account. It almost acts like a check.

Rewards? What Reward?

2

**When I first got the card, I thought this is a great option to paying for gas and a way to earn cash back rewards, but I found that there was no real reward at all.  It takes purchasing up to $3,500 on the card in order to get a $5 "reward", with other cards I have it only takes up to $100-250 in order to get the same reward; the spending limit on the card is actually $700 over a 7 day period, at least that's what one of their reps informed me, which if you have large purchases this is not the card for you.  Another concern I have is with the dispute process, because even with using a regular debit card with a Visa or MasterCard's logo, the dispute process is not so confusing that you just give up.  No one seems to know what's going on when you contact their customer service, and you will be transferred a minimum of 3 times before getting to someone that "may be" able to get you to another department that "may be" able to assist you.  Another concern about the rewards, is they only specify in the fine print, that if you use the card at any convenience store or gas station, along with any QT purchases, regardless if PIN or Credit purchase you don't earn points.  I agree with another reviewer, the card is definitely NOT worth the hassle.  Stick with other reputable rewards programs, that will give you "CASH BACK" and not after spending almost a thousand times the amount of the reward.**

hate it, I had to dispute a charge & QT has cut me off!!!

1

QT Reward Card Stinks!!!!  When disputing a charge with Chase, it caused an NSF with QT since that is the card that was used.  QT never notified me of the "NSF" as they call it, so I called to ask about the charge and they said it will be 2 weeks before ANYONE can tell me about the transaction.  What a dude - I love QT stores, but they do not know how to do a rewards program.

The card is great!!!

Every card if you use debit witholds between $50.00 and $100.00 dollars right when you swipe the card at the pump not just the QT rewards card and it does it at every gas station. If you use debit it witholds that but it goes right back in the account within the day. If you use credit it only witholds $1.00 but it take a couple of days to go thru.  Its a simple fix just get a pumpstart card swipe it at the pump then go inside to pay. If you pay on the inside it will never withold that money.  You would never even know it witheld money unless you checked you accout while or right after you pumped gas. I work for QT and I have a rewards card myself and I have to say besides the pumpstart card this is the best thing QT has thought of.

Actual Rewards from a Rewardscard!

4

First, I have to say that the application process to get the card is a breeze. Second I can't believe the QT is actually going to give the savings from processing their own transaction to the customer! Third QT is and will always be a GREAT company. I will pass other convenience stores to find a QT. For all the skeptic, believe me, you will see the benefits of having this card immediately. Once again QT you are ahead of the game.

putting $100.00 hold on pay at pump is a ripoff

1

just found out the hard way, that new rewards card is a rip off!! when you swipe at the pump they put a $100.00 hold on your checking account for five days !!!! they dont tell you this ahead of time, which could cause you overdraft charges , and hsbc shows indifference to the problem they cause to the customer !!!! I had been a very loyal Q.T. customer ,but this changes that. i can swipe at the pump with my other debit card and not have my account frozen for five days for $100.00 !!!!!!!!!i guess i will be buying my gas elsewhere to avoid this kind of ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
