Love that my dog enjoys this food. I was sick of feeding him brown nuggets that took him getting very hungry to finally eat.

As a breeder, a rescue fosterer, and own a boarding kennel. I feed a lot of dogs and have plenty of opportunity to compare dog foods. ProPlan is one of about a half dozen of my mainstay products that I utilize for feeding both my own and client pets and I recommend it frequently. Dogs tend to eat it and process it well and it is an affordable option in comparison to the competing products in the market. I particularly value and appreciate the fact that in recent years with massive dog food recalls across the board Purina has seemed for the most part to be unaffected (they voluntarily pulled a few products from their lines for safety reasons). When questions of dog food safety arise in the market place Purina products are the ones I trust to remain safe. In general I tend to favour the Chicken or Lamb based products over the Beef based products as more pets seem to have digestion issues with Beef based products. Quality of Ingredients Not an "ultra premium" product, a good basic everyday, reasonably affordable dog food. I like that this food uses *brown* rice as it is a healthier option.

When we purchased our dog almost two years ago now, he was on a different premium food. I had worked in a pet store for five years and knew all about the different foods. We decided that we were ready to change him over to Pro Plan. So we did and now at almost two years old, our puppy is doing awesome on the Chicken and Rice formula of Pro Plan. We couldn't ask for a better food, as his coat is shiny and he is a very healthy dog. The other formula that we use is the small breed by pro plan and he does awesome with that as well. Thanks to Purina Pro plan, we have a very happy puppy!! But I just wish that they would put out some more coupons on the food, not just the treats. This isn't a very cheap food, but because we aren't going to feed our dog a cheap dog food, we do still buy it! Sometimes our pet store will have it on sale, but not very often. In the long run though, we are happy to spend the money on a food that is going to keep our dog happy!

This is the only food our dog LOVES! Occasionally we are unable to purchase this type so we buy another Purina brand and while he will eat it, he also protests it. He will sometimes go 2 days without eating if he has a different type of food. He never does that with his Pro Plan!

My 8 year old labrador retriever has been on Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice Adult his entire adult dog life. His coat is shiny, he is in excellent health and has maintained a steady weight. And while labradors are known for their appetite, he is not wanting for more food after his meals. The veterinarian suggested two meals a day and we've followed this guidance. The product packaging is always secure and the price, while a little high, can often be brought down using coupons. My only reason for dropping down to four stars was the way they transitioned to the shredded chicken product a few years back. There was very little notice of the transition and it resulted in some dog owners having to do an immediate switch after running out of the non-shredded variety. This did cause some temporary abdominal issues for my dog. I hope in the future Purina will handle product changes better.

My 8 pound minature wire-haired dacshund was introduced to Purina ProPlan Shredded Chicken & Rice formula while visiting my cousins in Illinois.  Their two scotties had been raised on it and so to keep peace while we were there everybody ate the same.  Padi loved it - so much so one night we had lost track of time and she politely sat by the can where it was stored and waited for her dinner (she never does this at home) and when we were late with dinner she told up in no uncertain terms that it was time.  She definitely has a method to eating it kind of like eating your oreo cookies, she eats the shredded chicken first, then she waits a little while and eats some of the hard kibble pieces later always saving about a dozen pieces for the morning snack.  She has always eaten canned food up until now despite my attempts to switch her to kibble.  She actually likes this stuff.  I switched to the weight management when she put on a little weight after being spayed but will need to go back to the shredded chicken and rice because she misses the soft chewy chicken.  I got a sample of the shredded lamb and rice in the mail the other day and she likes it as well so I will be able to offer her some variety.  Because of her size and because of the nutrition packed into this kibble there is little waste and her allowance is only a 1/2 cup a day which satisfys her plenty along with a few treats during the day when she is extra good and has earned one.  It has the tap top on the bag but it doesn't hold very well so we use chip clips to hold the bag closed.

I tend to buy several varieties of dry dog food for my dog depending on what is on sale, but always try to buy him more quality dry foods.  This, along with Hill's Science diet, and the regular Purina Pro Plan are what I buy the most.  I have an eleven pound pekingese, so I have to make sure I buy food that is small enough for him to eat.  Purina Pro Plan Selects Chicken and Brown Rice is not only a good size for a small dog, but also has a taste that he enjoys.  I usually mix it with moist Purina Pro Plan chicken and rice because he enjoys it that way best.  The plastic bag that it comes in also keeps it fresher longer.  This dog food comes in a good sized bag that my dog can usually finish over the course of two months, which also allows the food to stay fresher longer.  Overall, I would consider this dog food to be a great value to the purchaser, especially if you happen to have a coupon.  I can only find it in specialty pet stores where I live though.
