The Proctor Silex 48574Y Coffee Maker broke on me!

1

Purchased the Proctor Silex 48574Y Coffee Maker back in March of 2010 for the office to make simple brews for clients and visitors and have been extremely disappointed by the quality of the product. The GOOD: The Proctor Silex 48574Y has a small footprint and is very light, which is standard for such products. It has a programmable clock which is nice to have since you can program the unit to shut off after it brews a new batch after a couple of hours. There are other functions such as an automatic pause and serve, and brew strength selector, which I rarely used (I set it to the max because I like my coffee like mud). Machine also boasts a permanent filter. The BAD: The unit, when it performed, did what was expected of it; the biggest flaw in this machine is the 12 cup glass carafe. The item is advertised as dishwasher safe so you would expect it to wear well and be somewhat rugged, but the glass carafe is made from low quality glass. I brewed a batch and left the carafe sitting in the unit and out of nowhere the carafe cracked! I went to pull the carafe off the unit and the top half of the carafe broke off from the bottom half, which remained stuck to the heating disk. Coffee spilled all over the place and ruined my table top. Needless to say it was a bad experience. Gets a 1 out of 10 from me.
