Diaper Genie

I was so excited when I received this product for my baby shower. Its easy to use and controls odors pretty darn good. I always seem to jam my knuckes though when Im putting a diper into it. The plastic is sharp and Ive actually cut my skin several times. Its very easy to empty/change the bags. Does create alot of extra garbage but its small and compact and can fit most anywhere in your nursery.

Pretty Good Overall

Overall this is a very good product for the price. It keeps the stink out of the house and in the pail. Keeps the trash can from filling up with diapers. Slim and compact so it fits anywhere. Only down side is the cost for the refills.

We got and used this for our first child. We kept it in his room and used it for all diapers at first. Then we realized that the refills are pretty pricey since they really don't last that long when you change so many newborn diapers a day! So we started just putting poopey diapers in it and it made the refills last a lot longer! The design is very easy and straight forward to use. Once you have the refill put in, you just pull some of it down and tie a knot in the end of it. Then when you have a diaper to dispose of, you just open the lid and push the diaper down, and it falls into the refill bag. It is really easy to use, but we found that it doesn't mask the odor of the diapers that set for so long in the refill. Anytime you push another dirty diaper in, it fills up the house/room with the nasty smell of all the dirty diapers. We actually don't use this anymore, as we have decided to just put them in the garage and that works alot better for us!

The Diaper Genie II is ok but not great

This was a gift item so I can really say if it was worth the money. I have no idea how much they paid for it! I really don't think it is worth the cost of the refills!  they are very costly! My husband and I found out that it would be cheaper to wrap each diaper in store brand waste basket bags! and those are sented! The refills we buy say that they will hold 270 diapers. We have NEVER packed that many diapers in there. This diaper genie doesn't have the foot activated opener so you can't do it one handed. Also, I have had really full diapers that sort of squished out while I pushed them down because the springs require a bit of force. On more than one occation my husband has had to go and fix it because the slider bar got off track and it was stuck in the open position... YUCK. Anyway, when it is working it is nice. I think it is worth it more when you have a really little one with lots of very tiny diapers!

not the best, not the worst

As I was deciding what baby items I really needed on my baby registry, I heard "I love my diaper genie" so of course I didn't hesitate to include it on my list. Well, have to say, I could have done w/out this baby item after all. It is not a horrible product, but if I had spent my money on it I probably would be seeking a refund - it is just not all it is cracked up to be. While I like the tall, slender, white design and the easy to open lid (can be done easily with just one hand which is important when you have a wiggly baby on the changing table), the smell that I experience every time I open the lid cancels out all the good things about this product. And when you actually open up the whole unit to change the bag, the smell is HORRIBLE....it fills the whole room and is hard to get rid of. The bags usually leak and I have nasty, brown stuff that I have to wash out of the bottom. So in the long run, I would be better off just tying up each stinky diaper in a plastic bag and throwing in the trash can outside. My suggestion would be to shop around and try to find another product of this type but not this brand necessarily.

I really wasn't sure whether to give this three or four stars, but I went with four because it fulfills its purpose for the most part. It definitely cuts down on the smell. I got this as a shower gift and still use it now that my daughter is two, so it does something right. My complaints about it would be that first off, a piece broke off where the lid closes so sometimes it comes apart and can be difficult to get back into place if it's in a bad mood. I'm not sure if that means it wasn't well made or if I'm just too rough with it haha. It also fills up very quickly, however, I like that it isn't huge, so that's okay too. It isn't an eyesore in the nursery like some diaper disposers, and I like the step open instead of having to touch it (except in my case having to close it myself sometimes because of the broken piece.) Oh, and the refills are ridiculously expensive, but I've tried other brands that fit this pail and they just do not work as well at all so I stick with them anyway. Overall I think this is a good product and would recommend it despite the issues I've had with it.

The Playtex Diaper Genie II Is A Great Parental Tool

5

We received the **Diaper Genie II**as a baby shower gift, and after three months of constant use, I am ready to say that we couldn't live without it.  It's really basically a fancy trash-can used for disposing of used diapers, but because of its ease of use, and time saving capabilities, it has become a great luxury to have in the changing room.  Out of the box it takes a few minutes to set it up for the first time, but with the easy to follow directions it can be up and running in less than 10 minutes.  From there its just a matter of changing out the bag each time that it fills up with dirty diapers, and taking advantage of its internal features. When assembled, the Diaper Genie II is around two feet in heigth, and strongly resembles an enclosed trashcan.  At the front bottom is a lever that you press with your foot to open a compartment on the top, and that is where you dispose of the used diapers.  I have found that the best way to place the diapers into the Diaper Genie is to fold the flaps back over the diaper so they are compact, and then simply just drop them into the Diaper Genie.  When you depress the lever with your foot, the top closes and the compartment allows the diaper to fall into an internal bag that holds all of the dirty diapers.  This effectively seals off the used diapers from the outside, and when you open the top the next time, the diaper is in a lower compartment away from eyes and noses. When the internal bag is full, you simply press a button on the front of the Diaper Genie II, and the top of the receptacle folds back.  This allows you to tie off the old bag, pull it out of the Diaper Genie and dispose of it.  Then its just a simple matter of setting up the refill, closing the Diaper Genie, and putting it back into use.  The reason that the Diaper Genie is so helpful is because it speeds up the process at the changing table.  You can get in and out much quicker if you are just dropping the diaper into a Diaper Genie, and you can get back to the business of caring for the baby.  Sometimes you need to get them in and out quickly to avoid fussiness, and this is a great way to assist in that process.  We have found the **Diaper Genie II** to be a great product in the house, and it is one we would definitely purchase again for someone else.

Diaper Genie II Pail does less than impress.

3

I am mom to two boys, and one on the way and we have had our Diaper Genie II Pail for two years now. There are several things that I do not like about this product. While it does trap the stink from the messy diapers contained, you could have the same result from bagging your dirty diapers in a walmart bag and putting in them in a lidded trash can. Not to mention you would save the initial money from investing in the Diaper Genie, and all the money spent from buying refills for the system! Another horrible feature of this pail is the way you have to push the diapers down into it. If I just changed a really nasty diaper do I really want to have to squish it down into the pail with my hands? No, it's quite gross. With two little guys in diapers we fill up a pail about every four days, and use a refill about once every two weeks. It seems everytime we turn around we are emptying it and shelling out more cash for refills. About the only thing I did like about the Diaper Genie II Pail was the cutting blade on the inside of the system makes it really easy to cut the filled up baggie and throw it out, without having to get the scissors. Overall I would say don't invest in this system and go for one that doesn't require you to purchase refills and will hold more diapers overall.

Diaper Genie II - a great product!

4

When we registered for baby items, we were debating between the Diaper Genie II and another well-known diaper dispenser, but since I was more familiar with the Diaper Genie, we choose that one. And what a great choice we made. It is very easy to use and the container really does keep in any and all smells from dirty diapers. I know many people say they have to change out the dirty diapers often but from our experience, we have only needed to change the dispenser when it has gotten full. The dispenser is easy to use-- you press the lever with your foot at the bottom of the machine, the top lid opens up and you drop in the diaper. You sometimes have to push the diaper down through the opening just a little, but that shouldn't be a problem if you just seal the diaper with its own sticky tabs before you put the diaper in and your hands stay clean. It should be noted that you aren't sticking your hand down into dirty diapers, just pushing the newest one down a little (only sometimes) so the lid closes. The reason I only gave it four stars is because to empty it, you have to cut the plastic bag yourself and tie it by hand, however, its not that big of a hassle and I'd take that small annoyance over having a smelly diaper dispenser anyday.

Generally a good but expensive product.

The playtex diaper genie II diaper pail is generally a good but expensive product. With my first child, I thought I had to have this. I read all of the reviews, and everyone seemed to say that this is something any new mom must have. I could not live without it, so I thought. We used it all the time. It is so convenient to throw the diaper in and that is it, no smell, no fuss. The only problem is, when it is full, it is hard to change. I ended up wasting so much of the bag and then letting so much of the old dirty diaper smell out. I would gag just changing it, and I do not have an active gag reflex. With my second child, I used it a lot at the beginning, especially when I was changing several poopy diapers in a day. At about halfway through my second child's year of life, I decided the the refills were just too expensive to buy, and I stopped using the genie. Instead, I found the old grocery bags were just as easy, much cheaper, and left me not needing to change the genie. I honestly do not miss the genie at all and my second child is now 17 months.
