Better than regular dry roasted peanuts

4

I suppose hardcore chili heads will scoff at this product, but I've enjoyed it for the past couple years. I agree that "Five Alarm" is way overstating the case, but Planters has managed to please both my love of dry roasted peanuts and my love of heat. For me, dry roasted is important...I don't like oily peanuts. If someone knows of a hotter high-quality dry roasted peanut snack, please advise. Otherwise, get off Planters' back.

Planters Five Alarm Chili Dry Roasted Peanuts should of been one of those things I should have know better than to buy. A coupon and a sale persuaded to second guess myself and buy it anyway even though I knew it was not a good idea. There is no alarm to the flavor of these peanuts which do have a very slight chili flavor which is hard to distinguish because there is way too much salt on these peanuts. I usually never buy salted peanuts but with flavors come salt, not sure why they feel it necessary to put so much salt on peanuts that you almost can not even taste peanut. If I wanted salt I would buy salt licks. I want peanuts with a nice firey taste. Guess I should have got the unsalted kind and then just added some ground cayenne pepper to the bottle and shook it. I would have the heat and the nut flavor I wanted without having any nasty old salt. I do not have high blood pressure, I just can not stand the taste of salt and avoid using it and buying stuff with a lot of it in it. I read the Planters Five Alarm Chili Dry Roasted Peanuts label and knew it be too salty but talked myself in to getting in hopes the five alarm chili flavor would be more powerful than the salt. Unfortunately I was wrong and salt won.
