Phillips 42" TV

5

The Phillips 42" TV has been our family's first flat screen television, and we have really loved it. The picture and sound quality is great. It works well with our local cable company's channels, and easily hooks up to our VCR and DVD player. It plays everything well, and wide-screen movies look especially good. Both the television and the remote are pretty uncomplicated and user friendly, which is great for non-techies like me. The set itself is has a sleek, modern design. I like that the basic power and volume/channel buttons on the TV itself are located on the side, so that you don't see them from the front. You can purchase additional mounting supplies to hang this on the wall, so it would work well hanging over a fireplace. However, we use the stand that it comes with, since it fits perfectly in our built-in bookcase area. To me, this is the perfect size screen - big enough that you can see details, but not so big that it takes over the entire room. We are very satisfied with this TV!

Great Brand and Great TV

5

I love this TV. I was attracted to it in equal parts because the Phillips brand is great in my eyes and because of the showroom model, and I was not disappointed. A decade and a half ago, I bought my first big screen Phillips TV, the boxlike model that took up an entire corner of the living room, and I was impressed that TV was great and is still working, so I knew for a fact that Phillips TVs were great. This particular TV has great colors, customizable picture, no problem with reception of any sort, cable or satellite. The sound quality is great and the screen is clear. I've had zero problems with it and don't anticipate any in the future. Picture Quality Great Realistic colors and smooth picture. Sound Quality Flawless Durability Sturdy Design Wondeful. Performance Not problems.

Awesome TV

5

This TV is the best one I've ever owned. 42 inch may not be as big at I wanted but the TV gives good vibrant colors. It has all the connectors in the back that you can imagine. It has HDMI, VGA, S-Video, Component etc. The picture quality is great comparable to Sony branded TVs. The sound quality may be a bit fuzzy when the volume reaches a certain level. Because of this, I purchased separate speakers and hooked it to the TV and the combination works well. I have not had any trouble with the TV. Even with over the air broadcast, the picture quality is amazing. The TV only comes with a plastic stand but the TV can be mounted onto the wall with a wall mount sold separately. The remote control that comes with the TV is quite basic but it sufficiently controls the TV easily.

This Philips 42 inch flat panel is great!

I've had a little trouble with this tv, but Philips sent a tech out who replaced a part and we've had no trouble since. The picture is awesome, and the service is great. One of the best parts is Philips service. I talked to them more than once, and each time I got an American speaking tech, who knew what they were doing. That's hard to find these days with tech service being farmed out overseas. I would defintely buy Philips again, if only for their technical service. But as to the tv, this is a great flat panel LCD, and we've had no trouble with bad pixels or such. The sound is also great. I turned off my surround sound system, as I had better sound with the tv speakers, especially with the automatic volume level. I would recommend this tv to anyone who wants a great tv and great service.

Philips is awesome!

We've had this television for almost a year. We looked around and at the time this was the cheapest tv for the size that we wanted. It is definately worth the money we paid for it. The picture is awesome. The sound is really great. We leave the television on for long periods of time and have had no problem with it getting really hot. Also if you leave it on for more than an hour and don't push any buttons it shuts itself off to save energy. The only problem we've had with it on certain channels when their are words with s sound it makes a little staticy noise but its only on a couple channels. We have music channels and I've turned it loud and have had no problem. We love the fact that it has so many choices for input. It has HDMI 1 2 and 3 and Video 1 and 2. It also has a component input.  The bottom part detaches really easy so you can put it up on the wall where we've had it the whole time we have had it with no problem. I would definately reccomend this tv!

Good TV/ BAD customer service

3

First of all, I would like to say that I like this TV....alot!  I would like it alot better if the Customer Service Center/Agents at Philips gave a crap about their customers.  A little background on this TV, and my aquisition of it.  I bought it sometime in 2008, back when a 42" Full HD 1080p TV was about 899.   If memory serves me right, this is near what I paid.  I purchased it from Walmart, and declined the extended warranty as I always do, because I go to Squaretrade if I want a warranty, and I figured the manufacturer warranty would suffice in this case.  I should have bought the extended warranty, due to the issues I was about to experience.  Anyways, I brought it home and got a normal VESA mount to mount it on the wall.  I looked in the manual provided by Philips, and it instructed me to use M8 size bolts to attach to the mount.  So, off to Lowe's I went, and got the bolts.  When I got home and put one in, It got stuck immediated in the internal mounting hole (I didnt force at all).  I could not get it out or in.  I called Philips customer service and they said that damage due to mounting a TV to a vesa wall mount....I complained and said that I followed their instructions and used the bolts they put in the manual, and since I did, I can now no longer mount the TV on a wall mount (because I cant get the other bolt out).  He said there was nothing they could do.  Even when I threatened to never buy another Philips product again...he basically could care less.   That is very poor customer service, and the error on the bolt size was their fault!  Also, note, that I am not the only one with this issue.  Google the model number and M8 bolts, and you will see other people that had the same issue.  In the meantime, I am sticking to my promise of never buying another Philips item again...not even a cheap pair of headphones.  I dont care how much cheaper they are then the competition!! I gave it three stars on the account of it being a good TV with good picture quality.  If it wasnt for that, I would have rated it 1 or 2 stars

Even A Refurb'd Philips Is Great

5

This was our first flat screen television, and was a refurbished unit.  In the two years we've had it, there's been absolutely no concerns or problems.  It's great to have something so big in terms of viewing, take up so little space in our home.  The picture quality is perfect, and the look of the unit design is sleek and classy too.  I had concerns about it being refurbished, but no longer.  This was my first purchase of something refurbished, and maybe it's just Phillips products that work this way, but because of this tv I no longer avoid refurbished products.  One feature I most like is the access to ports for auxillary devices.  We've used a DVD player connection, as well as temporary connections to our Video Recorder to watch recorded family events.  The control options are simple, and easy to follow for setup, and switching viewing modes is simple enough even a senior citizen like myself can do it.  Phillips delivers satisfaction with this product.
