We purchased this Oregon Scientific Weather Thermometer (in white) several years ago to be prepared layer-wise before we stepped out the door to run errands or head to work.  This small contaption has been a saving grace several times for us. In addition to telling us the temperature outside, this thermometer also reads indoor temperature, assuring we keep a steady heating or cooling degree in our home.  It also has a clock set by satellite, which is always correct and we can set our other home clock by. In the many years we have owned this electronic piece, we have just replaced the batteries in the last three months.  It does not drain batteries like many other thermometers do.  The piece for hanging outdoors is sturdy and durable and very nondescript.  No one would even notice it hanging near your front door. We are increasingly happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others!
